Review: [good] Maybe a generous grade; had a feeling that it was more watchable than I was giving credit to it as I watching it, but maybe I’m also just won by the names over the fact that I got bored trying to watch and had to restart a few times to try and get into it. Might also be the distraction of the lightning issues too, as the camera struggles to deal with the angle of the sun and both finishes are lost a bit in darkness. But mostly, it never quite breaks out of maestro exhibition form and the underdog team never feels like a significant threat. Everyone knows which side is going to win and it doesn’t ever feel like that upset is really coming. The match work is nice but there’s not a lot beyond that.

Review: [ok] this might be another generous grade; the highs of this match are decently high, but the lows are low and pretty frequent by the end. There’s not a person who doesn’t have some bad looking spot, especially in the third fall. It really got sloppier as it went along, really jumping on to the bad side of the line on a particularly bad Rayo star/Magnifico sequence in the third fall. Templario doesn’t make much of an impression the first two falls, has a good dropkick in the third, but also about moonsaults from the apron onto his face. One of the Magnificos nearly drops a Sky Star on his head while blowing a middle rope powerbomb, another Sky Star tries to break up a pin they’re not supposed to breaking up. There are highlights and good spots in this match – you’ll see them below – but this felt like amateur hour a lot more than normal, even for the Sky Stars.

Winner: Hombre Bala (DQ self mask removal)
Match Time: 14:12

Review: [good] weak recommendation as good. It’s good as a young guy versus young guy doing a lot of moves match, but neither man are playing their listed character all that much or any character that much and misses any storytelling. Leo is wearing a t-shirt instead of his shell outfit and isn’t doing Ninja Turtle spots; this is a Latigo match. Being a Latigo match isn’t bad in itself, but he (and Bala!) need to show more personality. I wasn’t even totally sure if there was supposed to be a rudo; the CMLL guy usually is by default on indie shows, but got as much of the cheers here. Bala throwing his mask to draw the DQ was a rudo move, but one that didn’t at all fit with the rest of the match. They had good spots, breaking out most of their big spots, but didn’t really get into much drama about the finish. That ending bugged me.

Review: [ok] I’m not giving up on Hijo del Pantera, though may I should. He looks like a really good luchador in stint, but I haven’t found a match where he puts it all together in one match with the right opponent (and he’s very bad at taking getting crotched on the post to start this match.) Pantera Sr. and Black Terry conspired to screw up whatever was supposed to happen at the end of the second fall and neither man was that much happy about it. It was interesting to watch the Terry team work the match as rudos and the first fall is the best fall, but the names make it sound more interesting than it is. This is a match with Suicida where Suicide doesn’t do a crazy dive, I can not recommend it to you.

Oficial AK47 vs Eterno for the hair

  1. DQ Oficial AK47 heel kick foul (2:07)

  2. Eterno forearm strike foul Oficial AK47 (2:24)

Winner: Eterno (2-0)
Match Time: 4:31
Notes: Joined in progress because of recording issues. AK47 very obviously tosses Eterno into a backwards heel kick foul to win the first fall, referee Reyes Rosas counts the DQ pin, then gives the fall to Eterno. AK47 drags Eterno around ringside for 3 minutes before they come back in to start the second fall. Eterno immediately turns the tide and topes him. AK47 oddly decides a corner headstand in the middle of their brawl, and Eterno shoves Rosas before fouling AK47. Rosas again counts the pin, and gives the fall and in to Eterno, despite the crowd urging him other wise. Eterno taunts AK47

Review: [ok] Totally shocked when they didn’t over the finish in the second fall. They did it in the first, there was a lot of time left in the segment, and it didn’t feel like they were that far into the match. I think the crowd was okay with such a cheap and quick finish – the time up there doesn’t include a long bit of fighting between the falls, which helps – but it’s an angle of a hair and not really much of a match. Hope there’s more to Eterno/Terry.

  1. Imposible rolling cradle (4:00)

  2. Metaleon Farmer’s Roll into a reverse bodyscissors bridge (1:07)

  3. Imposible Canadian Destroyer (8:40)

Winner: Impossible (2-1)
Match Time: 12:11

Review: [great] very successfully dramatic title match, another strong title defense from Imposible. Metaleon has good moments in this match, but it’s feels like Impossible holding it together in a way most IWRG youngsters would have problems. They have a very good open fall and are creative enough to use fancy cradles for finishes in the first two falls to save the big moves for the third fall. The big near falls work; the crowd was thought it was over a few different times, and I started to write down the finish before Metaleon kicked out one more time. Imposible picks up a thigh injury on a dive late in the match, and him limping around late gives the match a feeling like his invulnerability had finally been pierced. (His confidence wasn’t, he still did a top rope moonsault.) There might be better Metaleon showcases but this was a good summation of Imposible’s title run so far.
