CMLL Puebla: 2015-12-07

don’t trust Volador

Recapped: 12/07/2015

What happened: a The big news has nothing to do with this show. The announcers dropped new items in between falls again

  • the 12/25 show will be an Infierno en el Ring
  • the 01/01 show will be a Sin Piedad

A Ecos video promo implied the Infierno en el Ring will be a cage match. Another video talked about past groups of debuting trainees, suggesting another one was coming soon.

In actual matches, Ultimo Guerrero cheated to beat Atlantis. Atlantis asked for a super libre match like always, but they’ll likely have a normal singles match next week. Shocker lost to Marco Corleone in their own singles match. King Jaguar didn’t get along with Lestat, but didn’t get along with the other rudos either and was stretchered out of his match with a knee injury. Espiritu Maligno made an unlikely and unexplained run-in to attack Policeman & Disturbio for the DQ.

What was good:  Nothing really. There was no embarrassingly bad match, but there were a lot of half speed matches and nothing I’d think about watching again. I don’t even have a strong feeling on match of the night.

Where can I watch it: It’s up on CMLL’s YouTube channel.

Match 1: Black Tiger, Flyer, Magia Blanca vs Akuma, Ares, Espíritu Maligno
Arena Puebla, 12/07/2015

  1. rudos
    • Arez powerbomb Flyer (6:30)
  2. tecnicos
    • Black Tiger superbomb Espiritu Maligno (3:24)
    • Flyer boost corner dropkick to the face Akuma (4:00)
  3. tecnicos
    • Flyer seated hammerlock Ares (3:11)
    • Black Tiger top rope senton con giro Espiritu (3:15)

Winner: tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 13:45
Notes: Akuma suffered a left knee injury on the second fall finish and had trouble continuing the match. He returned long enough to take a dive from Magia Blanca.

Review: [ok] This was a better opener than last week easily, a lot smootheir match overall. Magia Blanca personally looked like he shook some nerves off and it helped he was able to get in a dive, but still was late for spots at times. Akuma wasn’t set up quite right for the second fall finish and was out of action for most of the third fall. They stalled quite a bit to start the third, but the match did get back on track. Espiritu took his usual big falls.

not Espiritu’s best plan
Akuma had him scouted after one match
this didn’t work out for Espiritu either
first dive, officially a CMLL tecnico

Match 2: King Jaguar & Lestat vs Disturbio & Policeman
Arena Puebla, 12/07/2015

  1. Jaguar & Lestat
    • King Jaguar el Pulpo Disturbio (7:35)
    • Lestat springboard moonsault bodyblock Policeman (7:43)
  2. Disturbio & Policeman
    • Policeman top rope splash Lestat (4:55)
    • Distubio kneebar King Jaguar (5:27)
  3. Disturbio & Policeman
    • DQ Espiritu Maligno (2:24)

Winner: Disturbio & Policeman
Match Time: 15:34
Notes: Disturbio & Policeman destroyed one of King Jaguar’s knees, leaving him stretchered out. Espiritu Maligno ran in for the save, attacking Disturbio

Review: [ok] This was really just a long brawl and a setup to an angle. It’s was a lot longer than it needed to be to get the idea across (King Jaguar’s definitely not turning tecnico yet but he’s hates the rudos just as much as he hates Lestat.) Espiritu Maligno’s run-in makes no real sense unless Disturbio & Policeman are getting at trios partner or King Jaguar has a real injury issue and Maligno’s being grafted onto this feud as a replacement. Jaguar having a real injury would explain why so little seemed to happen in this match

Lestat & King Jaguar not quite getting along
King Jaguar suckered
he didn’t really need to flip here, but why not

Match 3: Fuego, Rey Cometa, Stigma vs Canelo Casas, Okumura, Skándalo
Arena Puebla, 12/07/2015

  1. rudos
    • Okumura brainbuster Rey Cometa (7:10)
  2. tecnicos
    • Rey Cometa casadora cradle Okumura (3:16)
  3. tecnicos
    • Fuego huracanrana Canelo Casas (6:04)
    • Stigma moonsault bodyblock Skandalo (7:00)

Winner: tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 17:26
Review: [ok] some life in the third fall brought it out of the below average range, but this is not a ringing endorsement. Canelo was out of position as usual and is on the streaming shows way too often lately – this was his fourth appearance in just over two weeks. Metalico is not a world beater but I could use some Metalico sprinkled in instead of Skandalo and Canelo Casas. Rey Cometa versus Okumura was the best parts of this match, but it was built around Skandalo and Stigma and those two stumbled thru their exchanges. They got lost in the ending exchange and gave us moments of staring at each other. You’d guess they would be better working together as cousins, but they’re really not.

Match 4: Ángel de Oro, Dragon Lee, Stuka Jr. vs Ephesto, Luciferno, Mephisto
Arena Puebla, 12/07/2015

  1. tecnicos
    • Angel de Oro mecedora Mephisto (4:07)
  2. rudos
    • Luciferno Crash on Angel de Oro (2:50)
  3. rudos
    • Luciferno tapatia Dragon Lee (5:10)
    • Mephisto super Devil’s Wings Stuka (6:02)

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 12:59

Review: [ok] This had the best sequnences of the night, but it was also luchadors going at 75% of normal because it was the 4 of 6 matches on Monday in Puebla and there’s no sense in getting hurt on that. 75% means Stuka kind of walking to breaking up pins, and Dragon Lee just not taking bumps on his head. Dragon Lee really didn’t need to get beat at any point now unless there’s a match coming up about it, but CMLL refuses to protect people in that fashion. They also refused to put together a finish the people in the match understood, as five guys were confused when Dragon Lee was beat but was not actually the captain.

Match 5: Marco Corleone vs Shocker
Arena Puebla, 12/07/2015

  1. Shocker STF (4:07)
  2. Marco Corleone camel clutch (1:05)
  3. Marco Corleone top rope plancha (5:45)

Winner: Marco Corleone (2-1)
Match Time: 10:57

Review: [ok] probably the best possible Shocker/Marco match you can expect in 2015, trying to do a more serious match for the occasion and doing their best to work around the limitation. The problem is Shocker can’t go four minutes without being tremendously winded. CMLL needs to stop putting him in these singles matches, but they go on anyway. Marco did fine, and also did a lot of movement in this match.

Marco beat by his own punch

Match 6: Atlantis, Valiente, Volador Jr. vs Kráneo, Ripper, Último Guerrero

Arena Puebla, 12/07/2015

  1. rudos
    • Ripper middle rope senton Volador (2:17)
    • Kraneo running hip smash Valiente (2:33)
  2. tecnicos
    • Volador guilotine legdrop (3:02)
    • Valiente half crab Ripper (3:13)
  3. rudos
    • Ultimo Guerrero powerbomb w/feet on the ropes Atlantis (4:19)

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 10:05
Notes: Ultimo Guerrero used the ropes to beat Atlantis. Atlantis demanded a super libre match and Tirantes not be the ref next week. Ultimo Guerrero defended the honor of Tirantes and said next week would be ok. Atlantis wanted one more three minute match right then, but UG walked out.

Review: [ok] the rudos entertained themselves by having Kraneo do the Guerreros big flying splash on Volador, and that was entertaining to me as well. It was an amusing build to Kraneo versus Volador, the match that is not happening. Ultimo Guerrero didn’t as audible signal the end of this match as he did last week’s, but they weren’t accomplishing a lot before it and it felt even shorter than that time indicates. I doubt we’ll get anything new out of an Atlantis/UG match, but maybe the fans will show up for it.

everyone had fun but Volador
