Dragon Lee defeats Kamaitachi in epic title match, Charly Manson returns, AAA in Neza

Dragon Lee

CMLL (FRI) 12/04/2015 Arena México [CMLL, thecubsfan]
1) Arkángel de la Muerte & Canelo Casas b Oro Jr. & Soberano Jr.
16:43. Rudos took 1/3
2) Amapola, Tiffany, Zeuxis b La Vaquerita, Marcela, Princesa Sugehit
15:44. Rudos took 2/3
3) Ephesto, Kráneo, Luciferno b Ángel de Oro, Máximo Sexy, Super Porky
13:19. Rudos took 1/3. Kraneo hasn’t lost since 11/07 (singles match with Super Porky)
4) Euforia, Niebla Roja, Último Guerrero b Cavernario, Mephisto, Thunder
10:48. Guerreros took 2/3. Ultimo Guerrero challenged Thunder yet again to a mask/hair match. Thunder did not respond.
5) Dragon Lee © b Kamaitachi [CMLL SL]
16:56. Dragon Lee’s fourth defense, all against Kamaitachi. Seconds were Okumura and Maximo. The third fall originally ended with Kamaitachi beating Dragon Lee with the same crazy move as last week, only Dragon Lee clearly had his foot on the ropes. Referee Edgar, who had not counted a different pinfall when Dragon Lee had been under the ropes moments earlier, missed the foot this time and counted three. Maximo protested and commissioner Rambo also seemed to have noticed. A replay was shown, and Rambo officially ordered the match restarted after seeing the foot on the ropes in that replay. Okumura & Kamaitachi protested but the match continued. Dragon Lee won cleanly. Kamaitachi attacked the referee, Maximo and Dragon Lee after the match.
6) Mistico, Super Parka, Volador Jr. b Felino, Negro Casas, Shocker
4:43, straight falls for the tecnicos in a super quick match. Super Parka snuck in a foul on Casas in revenge for last week. Casas demanded a singles match. Parka didn’t respond.

Feud of the year keeps on. The title match was everything it should’ve been. I’ve got more thoughts in the recap, but you can just watch the thing here. The rest of the show will be on my YouTube playlist, but there’s nothing you need to watch.

Charly Manson, using the name Sharly Rockstar, was the big surprise of the night. Rockstar’s a good friend of Cibernetico and would’ve been a easy guess to join Elite, if anyone knew he was actually out of jail. He came to the Arena Mexico ring to announce he was the mystery man for Sunday’s Elite Lucha Libre show. Rockstar had been in jail after a 2011 incident where he attacked two police officers with rocks in a dispute. He was sentenced to seven years, but evidently was released early. Rockstar looked in good shape, maybe better shape than when we last saw him (he’s had a long history of injuries), but no idea how long he’s been out or what kind of ring shape he’s in. The crowd did not react big to Rockstar’s appearance. That’s not promising for Elite, but they may draw some curiosity buzz is the story of him coming back to wrestling gets picked up by the media in the next day or so. It does not appear Rockstar did an interview explaining his circumstances after the show, which would’ve helped.

It’d be a big deal for Rockstar to come back to Arena Mexico even if not for the jail thing. Rockstar was an original member of Los Invasors in 2010. (This was also during the first run of Lucha Libre USA, where Charly was also working.) CMLL pushed him strongest of the group in fall of 2010. The interest in the Invasors largely was dead after Olimpico lost his mask at the Anniversary show that year, but the idea seemed to be to stretch six more months out of the concept by having Manson get a big hair win (over Negro Casas of all people), Rey Bucanero defeat another Invasor in December (Mr. Aguila) and then have the two winners face off in March to have the CMLL side win the feud. Instead, Manson took Casas’s hair, then begged AAA to return so he could be back with his friends again. AAA brought him back and Bucanero never got that win.

AAA finishes up it 2015 taping year tonight in Neza. They’ll continue running spot shows as usual and there’s one more set of Lucha Underground tapings, but there’s not supposed to be any additional AAA tapings until 2016. This wasn’t even supposed to be a taping, but became one after the Guerra de Titanes scheduled for yesterday was canceled.  (Imagine that going on at the same time as Dragon Lee/Kamaitachi; we might have broke Twitter.) This is the first time AAA’s taping it’s main show in Arena Neza since 2011, though there was one episode of the ill fated Fusion show taped in between. That 2011 Neza show had Neza Kid in the dark match opener. This 2015 Neza show has Neza Kid in the dark match opener. It’s a different Neza Kid, unless they changed it back again. This is the listed card for tonight, from back when this was supposed to just be a spot show.

AAA TV (SAT) 12/05/2015 Arena Neza
1) Dinastía, Mascarita Sagrada, Neza Kid vs Mike Segura, Mini Abismo Negro, Mini Psycho Clown
2) Faby Apache & Goya Kong vs La Hiedra & Lady Shani
3) Angélico, Australian Suicide, Jack Evans vs Daga, Joe Lider, Pentagón Jr.
4) La Parka, Monsther Clown, Murder Clown vs Dark Cuervo, Dark Scoria, Zorro
5) Fénix, Psycho Clown, Rey Misterio Jr. vs Averno, Brian Cage, Chessman

All but the opener are listed in AAA’s preview. It’s fair to be skeptical it’ll exactly go this way, and not just in a negative fashion. Adding a sixth match would give AAA an extra week of TV during a period where they’re struggling to have enough and it’d be easy to pull one together; Neza’s just outside of Mexico City, so everyone’s around anyway. The big question is the main event, where Averno is still listed as participating. Charly Manson/Sharly Rockstar showing up last night in Arena Mexico means Averno’s not wrestling in Elite on Sunday, but that doesn’t change him being listed in New York today and Queretaro later this week against Caristico. Caristico is in New York, but I’ve got no idea where his eternal rival is. AAA hasn’t said anything specifically about Averno being there or not there, but they haven’t said anything like that for anyone. There likely will be live results for this show on Twitter, and I guess we find out when the main event hits the ring.

Today’s AAA TV is already up on YouTube. They’ve split up the Juarez taping in two, so the dark match airs this week. The minis title match and Daga/Pain vs Suicide/Speedball airs next week. There was no mention on upcoming shows; the Noti AAA segment focused on the MODO Museum lucha libre exhibit. Konnan seems to want everyone to know Joaquin booked the Juarez lineup, not him. I’d assume that means was responsible for the the Guerra de Titanes matches he didn’t like as well.

There’s an AAA spot show scheduled in Tepic on December 22nd, except local officials are threatening to suspend the show because the promoter and luchadors aren’t licensed. This seems like a local issue that doesn’t directly have anything to do with AAA.

Tuesday’s Arena Mexico lineup now has Arkangel & Nitro in for Skandalo & Disturbio in the segunda.

Weekly lucha libre shows in the Irving (Dallas) Bazaar are now canceled. The venue had a small electrical fire, which led to a fire code inspection, which led to about 300 different code violations, including finding the building didn’t meet the code to have wrestling matches. I think 99% of the lucha libre shows I’ve seen in person have been in buildings with at least 300 different code violations.

Black Terry Jr. has highlights of Super Nova & Texano versus Pentagon Jr. & Fenix.

It’s not a wrestler Violento Jack is bringing from Japan, but some mystery painful deathmatch weapon for the DTU main event.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

Hijo del Santo writes about Black Guzman.

Eric Mutter writes about 10 people you didn’t know wrestled in MExico.

Lineups

CMLL (FRI) 12/11/2015 Arena México
1) Bengala & Soberano Jr. vs Akuma & Canelo Casas
2) Astral, Eléctrico, Shockercito vs Demus 3:16, Mercurio, Pierrothito
3) Blue Panther, Blue Panther Jr., Super Porky vs Misterioso Jr., Pierroth, Sagrado
4) Super Parka vs Negro Casas [lightning]
5) Máximo Sexy, Mistico, Rush vs Ephesto, Euforia, Kamaitachi
6) Shocker, Terrible, Último Guerrero vs Kráneo, Ripper, Thunder

Thunder/Ultimo Guerrero returns, is elevated to the main event. Super Parka & Negro Casas are limited to a lightning match at least, but a lightning match is rarely an end point.

Kamaitachi sticks around for at least one more week. He may be lined up against Maximo, who he attacked after the title match.

What happened:  Dragon Lee kept the CMLL Lightweight Championship over Kamaitachi in another epic encounter. Kamaitachi was briefly declared champion after taking the third fall, after apparently winning the third fall with the same manuever as last week. However, Dragon Lee’s foot was on the ropes, and commissioner Rambo ordered a restart. Lee won the restarted match, leaving Kamaitachi enraged and defeated.

Super Parka paid back Negro Casas for his foul last week by fouling Casas in a brief match. Casas wants a single match, got no answer. Ultimo Guerrero got the same non answer from Thunder after challenging him to a mask versus hair match.

Charly Sharly Rockstar, the former Charly Manson, returned to Arena Mexico before semimain. Manson went to jail in 2011 and was sentenced to 7 years in jail, but apparently was released after 4. He’s debuting for Elite on Sunday, teaming with his old friend Cibernetico.

What was good:  Dragon Lee and Kamaitachi! Nothing else, you need to skip the rest of this and watch that.

Where can I watch it:  It’ll be on my channel on Tuesday, and the title match from the show is on ClaroSports now. Read More
