Winner: Solar I

Review: [ok] I put this on my list of matches to watch prior to seeing Solar & Fuego live in this building. That turned me off a little but about watching any more Solar matches any time soon – it wasn’t the worst match, but Solar seemed to spend more energy working the crowd for future trips like a busker than wrestling Fuego. (Fuego did not spend much energy either way.) This felt like a different story, with them starting on the mat and Solar working a little bit rudo, Aeroboy turning into a brawl and Solar going even more rudo in fighting back. It was a good ten to twelve minute match. Except it kept going for twice as long and dragged the last fifteen minutes, turning into just Solar doing his exhibition match and Aeroboy sort of along for the ride. Holds were demonstrated and then just stopped when it was time to demonstrate another hold. None of the holds meant that much, it was only the neatest looking hold that happened to work. Both standing around for a minutes for crowd chants didn’t hurt the pace, because there wasn’t much pace, and seemed to be more fun live. The closing minute of this match is both men laying down, looking exhausted, and moving very little while Solar holds a kimura armbar, Aeroboy escaping when Solar just decides to let go, Aeroboy with a kick and a poor looking huracanrana on Solar (who’s too tired to take it properly), Aeroboy slamming Solar and trudging up to the top rope to miss a senton con giro on a very hard ring, and then Aeroboy somehow being the first guy up anyway so he can walk into Solar’s hold. Don’t go twenty minutes unless you really have a reason to do so. This one didn’t have a reason.

Arez & Belial vs Aramis & Iron Kid

Winner: Arez & Belial
Match Time: 10:33

Review: [great] This is joined in medias res, like a movie starting off with a wild action scene. It also feels like a wild action scene with people falling all over the place for the get out. It slows down for a moment and goes crazy again to close it out. It’s a total spot fest, with the only story being the Indystrongibles are just a lot better than Iron Kid & Aramis. The (future, lost sense of timing?) Los Kamikazes aren’t a problem here, but it definitely feels like they got better later in the year. They continue, but Belial and Arez do some crazy big moves and come off as giant stars. Arez has gone the other way this year due to injuries, but he looks spry and fast and the quick Spanish Fly for the finish is really well done. Belial is the best of the group, at least to me, probably just because I like his double attack spots so much. There were a lot of good dives near the end, there were a few good superkicks before it, and there always seems to be a spot I freak out about that the crowd doesn’t at all – this time it was the head first toss into the corner.

Winner: Black Terry (Rosa)
Match Time: 15:00

Review: [OK] didn’t really do much for me; Terry contorlled most of the match and I never really got an idea of what Psico Kid could do in a 1v1 match. The chop exchanges early on was the most noteworthy moments of the match, both guys turning each other red. Psico took the worst of it, but Terry ended up bleeding anyway (and the match really didn’t require it.) It was a solid match with only Psico’s short tope as a big obvious error, but it wasn’t one I wanted to watch again.

seats do a good job of catching Terry

Virus vs Avisman
Coliseo Coacalco, Coacalco, Estado de México, 04/12/2015

Winner: Virus (nudo Virus)
Match Time: 16:38

Review: [good] felt like the mat wrestling equivalent of a squash. Avisman tried, Avisman didn’t give up, Avisman even got some moves, but it always felt like a Virus was allowing himself to be put in difficult situations only as practice for a real battle where he might need him. This wasn’t catch & release like a Navarro match, both guys battled in and out of holds, but Virus won pretty much every battle. There was scarcely a moment when Avisman appeared close to winning. Virus is really good and made this match work well when it wouldn’t have worked at all with most people, but I still would’ve liked more of a sense of progression. You really have to love mat wrestling to like this, because that’s all there is for it. Virus seems the luchador most capable of wrestling a 60 minute match.

don’t recall Angel de Oro getting a mecedora this way

Aero Boy vs Soberano Jr.Alas de Acero

Winner: Aeroboy
Match Time: 7:55

Review: [ok] a chaotic quick fight, with the crowd reacting as much to interaction with them as the spots. Aeroboy’s most over move of the match was telling a fan to quiet down. It’s not that they weren’t in the moves, they were just very into their fellow fans being yelled at. Aeroboy picked up his long term shoulder injury in between matches, but it doesn’t seem to be bugging him as much here as it would later on and he’s the most complete looking luchador in this match. Soberano’s pulling out Euforia’s submission was a nice spot, but he also was just a little off on a bunch of stuff. Match was hard to keep up with at points and only a little bit felt like it was building to a finish, though they handled that well.

Black Terry vs Juana La Loca

Winner: Black Terry (cradle DDT)
Match Time: 11:15

Review: [good] Much better than the previous Terry match, with Juana La Loca taking the fight to him early and often. The brawl on the outside a few minutes from the end was really intense and took a solid match up another level. Juana’s character was pretty toned down for the match, but they used the two exotico spots for turning points – one Terry nifty counting the headbutt for a kiss, later for Juana to turn the match around. The disappointing things about these matches is the fans aren’t into the near falls at all, but Juana went all out to take header on the finish.

that’s not nice
