CMLL (TUE) 12/29/2015 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring]
1) Magnum & Nautilius b Joker & Sádico
2) Hijo del Signo, Sangre Azteca, Virus b Magnus, Pegasso, Star Jr.
Magnus replaces Super Halcon. Virus snuck in a foul on Pegasso.
3) Zeuxis © b Lluvia [MEX WOMEN]
Zeuxis took 2/3 to keep the title, winning the last fall with the La Roca piledriver. Zeuxis’s third defense. Lluvia was said to do well even in the loss.
4) Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Vangellys b Blue Panther, Esfinge, Titán
5) Atlantis, Super Porky, Volador Jr. b Cavernario, Felino, Mr. Niebla
Tecnicos took 2/3

CMLL has an iPPV tomorrow. I’m probably not writing a preview tomorrow! Here’s the card

CMLL (FRI) 01/01/2016 Arena México
1) Estrellita, La Vaquerita, Princesa Sugehit vs Amapola, Dalys, Zeuxis
2) Blue Panther Jr., Esfinge, The Panther vs Cancerbero, Raziel, Virus
3) Atlantis, Marco Corleone, Valiente vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Pólvora, Thunder
4) Máximo Sexy vs Kamaitachi [hair]
5) Carístico, Mistico, Rush vs Cibernético, Último Guerrero, Volador Jr. [Relevos Increíbles]
6) Negro Casas vs Super Parka [hair]

It reads like Maximo is hurting but probably will still wrestle on Friday. Maybe he takes some time off afterwards? He’s certainly going to win. Parka beating Casas isn’t impossible, but like maybe 5% possible because Negro Casas has some weird losses and they could always drag this out to have someone else beat Super Parka down the line. Toughest pick is if Thunder will actually be in his match. I guess so. Furia de Titanes reposted the Super Parka/Negro Casas hype article from the other day, and one pushing the relevos incredibles rematch.

People have reported varied results on getting refunds from cleeng over last week’s failed show. If you were going to get one, you probably have heard back. It looks like those who asked for them right away got them (in credit.) Those who waited until later were told that since it’s up to watch now, you’re not entitled to one. (That was my case.) I assume it’s not going to fail twice in a row but I wouldn’t put any money on that. If you’re on the fence about getting the show, a) probably don’t get the show and/or b) maybe air until the women’s match starts to see if it’s working for everyone before putting your money down.

AAA’s last holiday special episode will be up on their channel some time today, which suggests they’ll start airing Arena Neza next weekend. That seems like it leaves them one week short of having enough TV (or the Gimnasio Juan de la Barrera show is airing about 15 hours after it finishes.) I’m missing something, but it’ll probably be explained later.

AAA’s also doing their year end awards on Twitter this year. New Star of the year has Lady Shani, Taurus, Garza Jr. and Hijo del Pirata Morgan. Luchadora of the year picks are Taya, Goya Kong, Lady Shani and Faby Apache. Tecnico and rudo are coming later.

The 01/17 La Liga de La Justica show will have Misterioso versus Herodes Jr. in a bull terrier match. Someone should actually film the process of picking two names out and a stipulation out of hats, because I’m like 90% sure that’s how that one happened. Not that it’ll be bad, but I have no understanding why those people would be facing in that match.

The 01/24 Lucha Memes show will be a Memes Rumble (Royal Rumble) style match with 22 luchadors. Monterrey’s Lady Jagaur is the first entrant.

Riot has been adding matches from their first shows on YouTube. Rey Horuz vs Dralion, the first main event, is up now.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

Heavy Metal cut a Facebook promo on Sharlie Rockster.

Suicida talks about the four way he’s in on New Year’s Day in Arena Lopez Mateos.

A look back at the year of wrestling in Cuernavaca.

Lineups

CMLL (TUE) 01/05/2016 Arena México
1) Acero & Angelito vs Pequeño Nitro & Pequeño Universo 2000
2) Flyer, Robin, Star Jr. vs Akuma, Artillero, Espanto Jr.
3) Estrellita, La Vaquerita, Princesa Sugehit vs Amapola, La Seductora, Zeuxis
4) Guerrero Maya Jr. vs Sagrado [lightning]
5) Blue Panther Jr. vs Puma, Magnus, Skándalo, Hombre Bala Jr., El Cuatrero, Oro Jr., Hijo del Signo [Copa Junior, semifinal]
6) Marco Corleone, Máximo Sexy, Stuka Jr. vs Kráneo, Niebla Roja, Ripper

Kind of a lackluster card for what should be a big date. Main event is a sort of rematch; perhaps they’re really doing Ripper/Maximo soon.

Copa Junior starts as promised, though Hombre Bala is in Super Halcon’s place. Maybe he’s just out for the moment since he missed Tuesday as well, or maybe they didn’t want a repeat winner. Puma’s such the obvious favorite that I suspect Cuatrero or someone else off the board will actually win.

CMLL (TUE) 01/05/2016 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) El Divino & Metatrón vs El Chakal & Thunder Boy
2) Omar Brunetti, Sensei, Starman vs Disturbio, Maléfico, Metálico
3) Esfinge, Pegasso, Stigma vs Okumura, Sangre Azteca, Virus
4) Ángel de Oro, Rey Cometa, Titán vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Hechicero, Pólvora
5) Mistico, Valiente, Volador Jr. vs Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Vangellys

Sky Team against sort of TGR in the main event. Semimain could be fun.

The Crash (FRI) 02/12/2016 Auditorio de Tijuana, Tijuana, Baja California
1) Mirage vs Septimo Dragon, Black Boy, Jinzo, Enigma, Proximo [The Crash Junior]
2) Ángel Metálico vs Hijo de Pirata Morgan
3) Genio Del Aire, Golden Magic, Súper Nova vs Star Boy, Tony Casanova, Zarco
4) Monsther Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown vs Mr. Maldito, Taurus (AAA), Texano Jr.
5) Blue Demon Jr., Fenix (AAA), Rey Horuz vs John Morrison, Pentagón Jr., Teddy Hart

Teddy Hart being in Mexico stands out (and probably is a question mark.) “Morrison” being listed under that name seems to say something about how much the person putting this together is actually paying attention to AAA.

Mr. Maldito and Psycho Clown have been feuding on all of these shows, may eventually have a mask match.

Tuesday results, Maximo possible injury

CMLL (TUE) 12/29/2015 Arena México [CMLL]
1) Akuma & Camorra b Flyer & Leono
2) Astral, Fantasy, Último Dragoncito b Demus 3:16, Pequeño Olímpico, Pierrothito
moved down to the segunda. Astral beat Pierrothito
3) Starman b Arkángel de la Muerte [lightning]
moved up a spot, with Starman defeating Arkangel.
4) El Cuatrero, Okumura, Sansón b Hombre Bala Jr., Oro Jr., Stigma
Debuts for Sanson & Cuatrero, the sons of Cien Caras. They took 1/3 to win their debut, Cuaterero beating Stigma to win it.
5) Boby Z, Gran Guerrero, Pierroth b Guerrero Maya Jr., Rey Cometa, Tritón
Gran Guerrero was listed in Sagrado’s place in the preview. Rudos took 2/3, Gran Guerrero beating Triton and Pierroth dropping Cometa with a package piledriver. Cometa was stretchered out.
6) Kráneo, Mephisto, Ripper b La Máscara, Máximo Sexy, Stuka Jr.
Mascara did not get along with his partners. Rudos took 1/3, Ripper fouling Maximo and pinning him to send him into Friday’s mask loss on a loss.

Maximo said he has a ligament issue, and will have to see the doctor to see if he’s ok to wrestle on Friday. I’d assume he’ll be fine, but missing the Kamataichi hair match on Friday would be a disaster. They probably couldn’t reschedule it at this point, they’d probably just need to pick someone to take his spot. (There’s little chance CMLL will announce a change ahead of time, given how little they announce.) Again, I’d assume he’ll be wrestling until someone says he’s not.

You’d think maybe Maximo should be winning before being in a big match on Friday. That’s just CMLL. Casas didn’t win on Monday either. Crowd was bigger than usual for a Tuesday.

No lineup for next week, so not sure if the Astral title match idea was dropped or if they’ll do it despite everything.

CMLL has quotes from Negro Casas and Super Parka hyping their hair match.

The Rey Misterio tour to Chile has been pushed back from March to an unspecified date in April.

A promotion called La Liga de Justica is running Coacalco on January 17.. They’ve run a few events in Puebla’s Arena Coliseo San Ramon – December 12 and December 5th are most recent – with a mix of indy names and locals. Maybe the same here. LuchaMemes/Chario already announced they’re running that building on January 24th, the week after.

Segunda Caida reviews Hector Garza versus Pierroth in a hair vs hair match

Extreme Tiger & Rey Misterio will face TJ Boy & Mortiz in San Diego on 02/20. I think the guy going as Rey Misterio is the original Hijo de Rey Misterio, but I’m honestly not sure any more.

this was fun

Recapped: 12/25/2015

What happened: Dinastia kept his minis title. Daga & Suicide continue to feud. The original Psicosis returned.

What was good: I enjoyed the minis match and the Daga/Pain vs Suicide/Speedball match.

Where can I watch it: It’s up on AAA’s channel and my own.

This is the final new AAA show of 2015. The next four weeks are repeat material. I’ll put up a post going thru all of them after they’ve over. Read More

great match roundup, week of 2015-12-12

This is the week with the last new AAA TV episode. In real time, I’m all caught up (because I spent about five minutes total on the next two episodes.) Shows I already watched: 12/14 CMLL Puebla and 12/18 CMLL on Claro

I would actually be done for the year at this point on regular TV shows, and so could post the last few off these at all up – except I missed a Puebla show and CMLL snuck in new TV on 52MX. A few more “catch up”->”round up”->single recap cycles to go.

I’m also at that point where a possible match looking like it might be good doesn’t seem like it’s enough to merit watching; there’s some IWRG I’m skipping that might be better than the stuff I”m watching, but it seems unlikely it’ll crack the best matches anyway.

2) Explosivo & Star Black b Demonio Rojo & Diplomático
Dipolomatico replaced Thunder Boy.
3) Joker, Maléfico, Ráfaga b Gallo, Magnum, Omar Brunetti
4) Esfinge, Titán, Tritón b Mosco X Fly, Mr. Trueno, Rey Trueno

5) El Alteño & Mr. Apolo L Vaquero Jr., Carlos Rogi, El Yaqui, Sádico, Exterminador, Nube Roja, El Chakal, Javier Cruz Jr. [cage, hair]
Five minutes of fighting before escape (two minutes more than the other cage matches this week.) Sadico was first out. Final three were Chakal, Mr. Apolo and el Alteno. Chakal escaped, and Mr. Apolo and el Alteno’s singles match went to a double pin draw, so both were shaved.

That’s a different finish at least.

16:15. Order of escape went Okumura, Disturbio, Rey Cometa, Canelo Casas, Fuego, Espiritu Maligno, King Jaguar, Skandalo, leaving Policeman and Stigma left. Stigma quickly beat Policeman.

There was no great match but the show was generally enjoyable. Huge crowd for the show, as full as I’ve seen. I think the holidays are a great deal of it, but it’s hard to completely dismiss the cage on either show since it seemed to work. It’s probably the combination that did it; I don’t think a cage match on a random day in May would help as much, but I think doing big matches at this time of year has some sort of multiplier effect.

I don’t expect CMLL to run another cage match for a half a year (if even then), but wouldn’t blame them if they brought it back earlier just to see.

Today’s CMLL show has the Mexico City debuts of Cien Caras’ sons, Cuatrero & Sanson. They team up with Okumura to take on Oro Jr., Stigma and Hombre Bala Jr. in the fourth match. Being in the fourth match doesn’t mean as much on a Tuesday show, they’re facing guys who will work the first couple matches on Fridays, but their size and name suggest these two will be moving up the card rather quick. The actual main event is La Mascara, Maximo and Stuka Jr. versus the same rudo side as in the trios title setup match last night, Ripper, Mephisto and Kraneo. CMLL’s preview lists Gran Guerrero in Sagrado’s place; perhaps Sagrado went home for the holidays and no one realized it, because he missed Saturday’s show as well.

Playboy has their anticipated article about Hijo del Perro Aguayo’s death. There’s not a lot new in there for people who have been closely following the story, but it’s mostly aimed at people who only saw the video. The general idea is everyone has their own guesses at what happened in that moment, no one will ever know for sure, and the uncertainty of it all makes wrestling a bit more frightening and depressing for the performers.

It’s briefly noted in the article that AAA receives no money from Televisa for airing their TV show, and the hope is the change in Mexico’s over the air TV in 2015 will give them more leverage. (Most of this article was written around TripleMania, so it’s always possible plans have changed.) CMLL/Elite’s still looking for a big TV network as well. Whatever happens with the new station (Grupo Imagen, people who used to run CadenaTres) and lucha libre looks like the possible big story of 2016. That, and whatever AAA does to balance the loss of talent from late this year.

This week’s Figure Four Weekly mentions the Lucha World Cup is tentatively scheduled for “basically the same weekend as last year”, which looks to be May 22nd.

Thunder’s still on the CMLL lineup for Friday, though they haven’t updated that page with the Elite lineup yet.

LuchaWorld has this week’s Poster-Mania and KrisZ’s news update.

3) Oro Jr. vs Arkángel de la Muerte
4) Hombre Bala Jr. vs Sangre Azteca
5) Tritón vs Pólvora
6) Estrellita & Princesa Sugehit vs La Seductora & Tiffany
7) La Máscara, Máximo Sexy, Valiente vs Hechicero, Niebla Roja, Pierroth

Finish last week was Kraneo fouling Maximo, so no Kraneo this week. Seductora hasn’t worked many semimain events; even the mask match was fourth from the top.

CMLL ELITE (SUN) 01/03/2016 Arena México
1) Principe Diamante & Último Dragoncito vs Mercurio & Pequeño Violencia

5) Cibernético, Mephisto, Sharlie Rockstar vs Black Warrior, La Máscara, Rush
6) Carístico vs Negro Casas

The first Negro Casas/Caristico singles match in nearly exactly five years. Dave the Clown and Rotten Clown make their debuts on this show. It looks like they’re not getting in much outside (outside of Mexico City) names because of the holidays, but there’s better people in Mexico City who could be in those spots.

CMLL (SUN) 01/03/2016 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara

fifth defense

Nitro & Arkangel had seemingly been limited to only appearing on Tuesday Mexico and Saturday Coliseo, btu they make their way to the opener. It’s probably still going to be better than Stigma and Skandalo. (They didn’t even make that a lightning match!) Main event should be good at least.
