CMLL on CadenaTres: 2015-10-24

Recapped: 11/19/2015

What happened: Zeuxis defeated Princesa Sugehit to keep the national women’s championship. Okumura worked as a fill in tecnico without incident. Nothing else in the matches.

This is the final CMLL on CadenaTres broadcast. The station itself was shut down a couple days after this aired, in a bit of a surprise. There’s no farewell or hint this is the final show and it’s not clear if they knew it would be when the show was recorded. The parent company will be launching a replacement channel in quarter 1 of 2016, but it’s unknown if CMLL will be part of it. The Tuesday tapings have moved to Claro Sports (TV) and LATV and cut to one hour.

Also, in the past and future weirdly crossing paths, the unaired first match and the segunda (aired as the first match here) were broadcast by CMLL as a test for their iPPV capabilities. I completely forgot I recorded both of those until Soberano did the barricade splash. I may watch the opener next time if I go thru the lightning matches again.

What was good: I liked the women’s title match, though I don’t feel strongly about which category to place it in. The second match was good too, but this went out with a bunch of forgettable matches as usual.

Where can I watch it: It’s on my YouTube channel, and the Disturbio match is on Princesa Dorada’s channel like usual.

    • Hijo del Signo top rope splash Sobreano Jr. (5:28)
  3. rudos
    • Nudo Signo on Oro Jr. (4:00)
    • Arkangel inside cradle Soberano Jr. (4:25)

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 15:52
Notes: Times are from the C3 version; there’s an internet broadcast one out there too. Isis tripped up Soberano, and Arkangel immediately pinned him.

Review: [ok] my brain shuts down when some of these guys hit the ring, but it seemed decently ok. The rudos were hitting harder than usual. Soberano hasn’t made TV much and just generally hasn’t been around a lot, but he did some fun things in this match and dived off the barricade amusingly. He also looked like a foot being beat so easily by Arkangel after a simple foot grab.

Winner: tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 15:29

Review: [good] slight generous grade, but the parts of this match were energetic (near the ends of falls mainly) pulled up the parts of this match which felt like a mailed in Tuesday match. Fuego & Puma had some good exchanges, including the ending, and the chaos to end the first was good. This wasn’t these guys at their best, and is a reason why these shows going away won’t be totally lamented – Tuesday had turned into a situation with a lot of matches which seemed promising but often weren’t meeting expectations. This was another of those.

this was fun

  3. Hijos del Infierno

    • Mephisto Super Devil’s Wings Angel de Oro (4:04)

Winner: Hijo del Infierno (2-1)
Match Time: 11:03
Notes: Okumura is a fill in and plays normal tecnico the whole match, never betraying his partners or disagreeing with them. This match was shown out of order.

Review: [ok] short usual match from these guys. The one guy out of place was Okumura, playing tecnico as a fill in. He doesn’t really have flashy tecnico offense, but otherwise seemed to do ok. Okumura’s biggest issue was not getting close enough to the ropes on the usual Infiernos hiptoss splash finish, and Luiciferno landed on him hard as a result. The CMLL recap at the time teased this as perhaps not the last time Okumuora is a tecnico. Bringing in a NJPW kid on the tecnico side would be a nice change of pace; they’ve all been rudos since they restarted with Naito & Yujiro. Angel de Oro is so patterned that it’s some times hard to appreciate how well he does moves; he looked better than usual here. CMLL’s started to call Luciferno’s finish the “Luciferno Clash”, which doesn’t quite fit. I always thought it was “Hooligan Clash” because of the band, and I’m sticking with it until they come up with some more fitting the new character.

Match Time: 15:52
Notes: Seconds are Fuego and Puma. This aired out of order.

Review: [great] a strong title match, possibly both women’s best singles matches. They put together a dramatic match with a couple of unexpected endings and pulled a reluctant casual crowd into the match a bit by the end. The match did feel a little cold at times because it was that Tuesday crowd who didn’t care of it as much as other venues might have, and there were some iffy moments (Zeuxis’ dive). Still, it was exciting and felt like a good match, not just a good women’s match. Zeuxis’s confidence seems to have gone up a lot in the last few months, and she’s been a generally smoother luchadora for it. Sugehit as a tecnica hasn’t always worked, and her inability to draw a great connection from the crowd hurt this match, but she was able to go with all of Zeuxis’ big spots and get in her some of her own. Thought it was interesting that Zeuxis broke out Puma’s new hold with Puma in her corner, but maybe it was just an effort to mix things up.

Match 5: Super Porky, Titán, Volador Jr. vs Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Último Guerrero

    • Euforica Special on Titan (5:45)
  2. tecnicos
    • Volador Jr. torito Ultimo Guerrero (2:13)
  3. Guerreros
    • Gran Guerrero Toro Slam Titan (3:22)
    • Ultimo Guerrero inside cradle Super Porky (3:@2)

Winner: Guerreros (2-1)
Match Time: 11:20

Review: [ok] skip ahead to the third fall. The Guerreros are willing to sell big for Volador & Titan, and those two look like world beats when it happens, but it’s a sleepy match until that point. Ultimo Guerrero goes all out for Titan’s helicopter headscissors and wish we got more of that match. What I got out of this first two falls is Super Porky is too fat for the Guerreros to do their big combo move. That’s kind of very fat.
