CMLL Puebla: 2015-11-23

needs a freeze frame and credits

Recapped: 11/23/2015

What happened: a Atlantis defeated Mascara to keep the Mexican Light Heavyweight championship. Shocker beat Maximo via foul, which may be setting up a heavyweight title match. Lestat won a DF versus Puebla cibernetico.

What was good: Maybe just the cibernetico, and it wasn’t a blow away match. Not a good show.

Where can I watch it: It’s on CMLL’s YouTube channel.

Match 1: Meyer, Paris, Zaeta Roja vs Guerrero Espacial, King Jaguar, Policeman

    • Policeman top rope splash Meyer (9:01)
    • Guerrero Epscial powerslam Paris (9:21)
  2. tecnicos
    • Meyer el Pulpo Policeman (3:44)
  3. rudos

    • Guerrero Espaical powerbomb Meyer (2:46)
    • Policeman tirabuzon Paris (3:05)

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 15:10

Review: [ok] this had a slow first two falls and the rudos didn’t do a lot interesting, and it still turned out to be the second most exciting match on the show. That’s more about what the rest of the show was, but you’ll probably just want to skip to the third fall if you watch it to see the tecnicos show off. The second fall featuring the usual set of spots to set up to dives, only they can’t do dives because it’s the opener. That limitation comes off as silly on these shows, but also silly is building up to the moves you can never do.

Match 2: Arkalis, Asturiano, Lestat, Millenium, Rey Samuray vs Akuma, Cancerbero, Canelo Casas, Inquisidor, Raziel in a cibernetico match
Arena Puebla, 11/23/2015

  1. Akuma valagueza Rey Samuray (11:28)
  2. Asturiano springboard plancha Akuma (12:21)
  3. Arkalis Spanish fly Inquisidor (14:21)
  4. Canelo Casas tilted cloverleaf Millenium (14:55)
  5. Raziel spinning splash Akarlis (15:47)
  6. Asturiano top rope huracanrana Cancerbero (16:29)
  7. Raziel super Raziel Driver Asturiano (18:48)
  8. Lestat cradle Raziel (20:35)
  9. Lestat back suplex Canelo Casas (22:17)

Winner: Lestat
Match Time: 22:17

Review: [good] better than expectations, though the expectations were pretty low and there were still some problems (like Lestat’s attempt at a walk the ropes dropkick). The Puebla locals generally all looked good and got a chance to shine, though Rey Samurai went out way too soon and Lestat didn’t really make a case for being the best guy in it. The Cancerberos seemed to wrestle the vast majority of the match. Canelo Casas was slow as always but didn’t screw up anything too badly. They let the tecnicos go all out to dives and won, so it felt like it wasn’t a waste.

Match 3: Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr., Stuka Jr. vs Ephesto, Luciferno, Mephisto
Arena Puebla, 11/23/2015

  1. rudos
    • Ephesto Shoulderbreaker Stuka (4:48)
    • Luciferno Crash Delta (4:48)
  2. tecnicos
    • Guerrero Maya casadora cradle Mephisto (3:17)
  3. rudos
    • Mephisto Devil’s Wings (8:55)

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 17:00

Review: [below average] routine low energy Hijos del Infierno match with the tecnicos not doing anything much either. This felt like the fourth fifth of fifty very similar matches with these two teams; I’ve even just GIF-ed the double finish from the first fall from a different match like a day ago. Match grinded to a halt in the third fall because the rudos just weren’t that interested in wrestling. I wasn’t that interested in the match by the end of it and this was a harsh come down from the last match.

Match 4: Marco Corleone, Máximo Sexy, Super Porky vs Kráneo, Ripper, Shocker
Arena Puebla, 11/23/2015

  1. rudos
    • Kraneo legdrop Super Porky (6:15)
    • Mije middle rope splash Maximo (6:38)
  2. tecnicos
    • Super Porky sit Ripper (2:20)
    • Marco Corleone inside cradle Kraneo (2:24)
  3. rudos
    • Shocker foul Maximo (3:47)

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 12:49
Notes: Shocker snuck in a foul post match. Tecnicos demanded a rematch.

Review: [below average] a comedy match with even less effort than a usual comedy match, and one where it was disappointed when they threatened to do it again next week. This felt more mailed in than the previous match, which didn’t seem possible, and the show felt like it was going really long at this point.

Match 5: Atlantis © vs La Máscara for the Mexican National Light Heavyweight Championship
Arena Puebla, 11/23/2015

  1. La Mascara modified cavernaria (4:24)
  2. Atlantis cradle (1:17)
  3. Atlantida (7:27)

Winner: Atlantis (2-1)
Match Time: 13:08
Notes: Canelo Casas and Lestat are seconds. Tirantes is referee.

Review: [ok] Atlantis did a his few normal moves, did a dive, almost got beat a couple times, and won clean with the Atlantida. The only twists was Mascara doing a different finish in the first fall and saving the campana only for a tease in the third fall. He also seemed to tone down his usual gimmick in respect of it being a title match, but this was not really a lot different than any other Atlantis title match in practice. It’s not really on Mascara for it being what it was, this time.
