Hijos del Infierno find an opponent they can defeat

Recapped: 10/23/2015

What happened: Sombra defeated Volador in straight falls (with a little help) to set up a title match next week. The Panther & Super Comando started feuding, and Thunder & Ultimo Guerrero continued feuding. Hechicero defeated Heddi Karaoui in a singles match which had been build for a few weeks (and, weeks later, Karoui hasn’t returned to the main CMLL shows.)

What was good: The main event felt like a big match, and the fourth match had the usual Dragon Lee/Kamaitachi show.

Where can I watch it: The show is on my YouTube channel, though some matches are only available with the Azteca edits.

Match 1: The Panther, Tiger, Tritón vs Okumura, Sangre Azteca, Súper Comando

  1. rudos
    • Okumura brainbuster Triton (5:16)
    • Sangre Azteca low blow dropkick Tiger (5:48)
  2. tecnicos
    • Tiger huracanrana Sangre Azteca (4:57)
    • The Panther frog splash Super Comando (5:19)
  3. rudos
    • Super Comando reversed cradle with the ropes The Panther (4:28)

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 15:35
Notes: Tiger replaced Blue Panther Jr. and didn’t get along with his partners for most the match.

Review: [ok] They did a good job making it clear the Panther and Super Comando are actually feuding, but the match got distracted by Tiger filling in as a tecnico. (There’s 50 people they could’ve used as a fill in and they decided no.) The outcome of this feud seems inevitable, but the best possible result of this feud is Super Comando getting moved into matches with better luchadors. He looked like he belonged here, in what is normally a tercera. The Panther is better with the emotion he had in this match. Triton had a rough start but got better later in the match.

Match 2: Blue Panther, Delta, Rey Cometa vs Misterioso Jr., Pierroth, Sagrado
Arena México, 10/23/2015

  1. Boricuas
    • triple powerbomb Rey Cometa (1:52)
    • Pierroth pin Delta (3:30)
  2. tecnicos
    • Delta casita Pierroth (2:05)
  3. tecnicos
    • Delta double stomp Sagrado (5:21)
    • Rey Cometa torito Misterioso (5:29)

Winner: tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 11:04

Review: [ok] pretty standard Boricuas match – they dominate for a while, they lose a fall in a stupid fashion, then Pierroth does some stuff – but it was a smoother flowing match than the one before. They have the formula down. Delta hasn’t been around much but looked fine here. Rey Cometa did his B match and can now get crowd sympathy well that way. Pierroth is an idiot for repeatedly trying to martinete Blue Panther but that’s kind of his character. It’s not a new story, but Sagrado is much better as a rudo now than he had been as a tecnico.

Match 3: Heddi Karaoui vs Hechicero in a lightning match

Winner: Hechicero
Match Time: 7:11

Review: [ok] technically fine in sections, but a match they couldn’t get the crowd to care about all that much. Having an unknown French guy against a rudo is probably not the best mix for casuals in a match that was going to be hard for them anyway. Karaoui worked harder than I’ve see him elsewhere, but the last minute of this match was off the tracks, with Karaoui missing on a sunset flip escape and falling on his head, bleeding, and not sure what he was supposed. Hechicero looked good as usual and it’s very nice to see him to get the win.

Match 4: Dragon Lee, Máximo, Mistico vs Ephesto, Kamaitachi, Mephisto
Arena México, 10/23/2015

VideosOficialesCMLLthecubsfanthecubsfan

  1. rudos
    • Kamaitachi double German suplex Dragon Lee (2:45)
    • Ephesto shoulderbreaker Maximo (3:06)
  2. tecnicos
    • Mistico la Mistica Mephisto (3:20)
  3. tecnicos
    • Ephesto double hiptoss splash Maximo (1:55)
    • Mistico bodyscissors cradle Ephesto (2:26)
    • Dragon Lee double stomp Kamiatachi (3:09)

Winner: tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 9:35
Notes: First two fall times are from the live airing, the third is from the Azteca reairing (which is likely shorter than live.)

Review: [good] Worth watching even if you have to jump to another video for the finish. I recall this as being lots of Dragon Lee/Kamaitachi craziness live. Of course, a lot of that gets cut out for time on TV, but there’s still a few of their big spots. Mistico top rope headscissors to the floor looks great too. Maximo becomes a rare person to take the Kamitaichi ramp dropkick besides Dragon Lee. They build a lot around Mistico and get out Maximo quick, which is odd given their opposite popular.

Match 5: Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Último Guerrero vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Pólvora, Thunder
Arena México, 10/23/2015
Video:
VideosOficialesCMLLthecubsfan

  1. Team Thunder
    • Thunder cradle suplex Ultimo Guerrero (2:21)
  2. Team Ultimo Guerrero
    • Terrible cloverleaf Pólvora (4:13)
    • Rey Bucanero modified STF (4:13)
  3. Team Ultimo Guerrero
    • Ultimo Guerrero Guerrero Special Thunder (12:14)

Winner: Team Ultimo Guerrero (2-1)
Match Time: 12:14

Review: [below average] Thunder’s awful and Ultimo Guerrero is working so hard to get something out of him but he’s still awful. The other four guys were there, but not really there much, just killing time to give UG & Thunder rest breaks. I have no real idea what submissions Terrrible & Rey Bucanero were tried to apply at the end of the second fall. Terrible’s might have been a bad scorpion. I can’t even begin with Rey Bucanero. They took lame bumps on Thunder’s lame double clothesline. Pólvora was in the wrong spot on Rey Bucanero’s splash to the floor, and Pólvora and Bucanero didn’t do much to catch Dragon Rojo’s dive. Ultimo Guerrero beating Thunder clean seems to defense the point of this feud, but whatever. There never was a point to this feud.

Match 6: Atlantis, Valiente, Volador Jr. vs La Máscara, La Sombra, Rush
Arena México, 10/23/2015
Video:
VideosOficialesCMLLthecubsfanthecubsfan

  1. Los Ingobernables
    • La Sombra double knee smash Volador Jr. (2:55)
  2. Los Ingobernables
    • La Sombra pin Volador Jr. (5:53)

Winner: Los Ingobernables (2-0)
Match Time: 8:48
Notes: Naito is with Los Ingobernables, wandering around the ring and the entrance area for the duration of the match and occasionally interfering. Ingobernables attack the tecnicos before the match. Atlantis wears the Universal belt to the ring, for likely the last time he’ll be seen with it this year. Volador appears to have Sombra beat and takes out Rush with a backcracker, but Mascara pulls out Tirantes to stop the count and Naito fouls Volador to set up Sombra’s pin. Results sets up Sombra/Volador for next week. Los Ingobernables talk, though they cut the microphone off before Naito gets to say anything.

Review: [good] this is not a really long match, and the tecnicos barely get anything get in it, but Los Ingobernables versus tecnicos in a main event is great every time they do it. Volador fighting against the numbers was as good as anything CMLL’s done this year, and it was about 20 seconds long. The Ingobernables looked as great as a unit and totally overmatched their opposition, and this felt like a hot promotion for a few moments
