CMLL Puebla: 2015-11-16

Volador & Mistico

Recapped: 11/15-16/2016

What happened: The Sky Team kept the trios titles over the Peste Negra. La Mascara beat Atlantis in straight falls to set up a title match next week.

What was good: The title match was good, but really not as good as it should’ve been. The third and fourth matches were also good, but there’s nothing you had to see. Better show than usual overall

Where can I watch it: It’s on CMLL”s YouTube channel.

Match 1: Meyer & Paris vs  Artillero & Espanto Jr.
Arena Puebla, 11/16/2015

  1. tecnicos
    • Paris springboard splash Espanto Jr. (5:42)
    • Millenium wheelbarrow faceslam Artillero (5:52)
  2. rudos
    • Espanto Jr. running boot to the face Paris (3:44)
    • Artillero step over double armbar Millenium (4:05)
  3. rudos
    • Espanto Jr. powerbomb Paris (6:01)
    • Artillero surfboard armbar Meyer (6:51)

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 16:48

Review: [ok] kind of boring opener, with the youngsters not being as exciting as some of the other Puebla guys and the rudos not adding much. With Super Comando pulled from this match, this autumn run of Artillero going solo continues on. It’s not a season we’ll remember. Paris struggled on the first fall finish, had a better (if a little slow) run to start off the second fall. Espanto does things occasionally well, fooling me into thinking he might be something at some point. I wonder if he has a better brother who’s just off feuding with someone else somewhere too.

not the smoothest finish

Match 2: Black Tiger, Millenium, Oro Jr. vs Policeman, Rey Apocalipsis, Toro Bill Jr.

Arena Puebla, 11/16/2015

  1. tecnicos
    • Milenium off the shoulders splash Policeman (6:02)
  2. rudos
    • Policeman top rope senton Millenium (3:50)
    • Rye Apocalipsis reverse Indiand Deathlock Black Tiger (4:14)
  3. rudos
    • Toro Bill backracker black Tiger (1:58)
    • Policeman suastica Oror Jr. (2:10)

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 12:26

Review: [ok] disappointing match; the Batillon has looked better, and didn’t do as much here. None of the tecnicos stood out. Millenium was supposed to do a plancha, slipped, got the win anyway because he fell on Policeman. That worked out for everyone but Policemnan, and Policeman got his revenge with the second fall top rope senton Forgettable match.

Match 3: Fuego, Rey Cometa, Stigma vs Boby Z, Disturbio, Virus
Arena Puebla, 11/16/2015

  1. tecnicos
    • Fuego seated armbar Virus (8:05)
  2. rudos
    • Disturbio frog splash Fuego (4:29)
    • Boby Zavala low blow dropkick Rey Cometa (5:15)
  3. rudos
    • Boby Z dropkick Stigma (2:52)
    • Virus motocicleta Fuego (3:24)

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 16:44
Notes: Virus replaced Okumura.

Review: [good] Another good match from the CMLL División Media, and one which played out a little different than normal. There was no third fall tecnico rally. The rudos took fall 2, Fuego got in a little offense, and then rudos put him down too. A lot of these matches have same-ish feelings, so playing it out even a little different gets picked up. Stigma looked better than usual, or at least he doesn’t usually land the front flip evade as well as he does here. Zavala seemed a bit harsher than usual, and it’s good he’s back to teaming with Disturbio.

Match 4: Ángel de Oro vs Hechicero in a lightning match
Arena Puebla, 11/16/2015

Winner: Angel de Oro (mecedora)
Match Time: 9:17

Review: [good] a good Hechicero match but one where it didn’t feel like Angel de Oro added much to it. Hechicero set Oro up to do a couple of more interesting things, but this was otherwise the usual Angel de Oro lightning match. Rudos need to stop trying to kick Angel de Oro while he’s standing on the apron. It never ends well. Meanwhile, Hechicero tripping people on a leapfrog and putting them in ankle lock is a real repeating thing.

Match 5: Atlantis, Diamante Azul, Dragón Rojo Jr. vs La Máscara, Marco Corleone, Último Guerrero in a relevos increíbles match
Arena Puebla, 11/16/2015

  1. Team Ultimo Guerrero
    • Marco Corleone crab Diamante Azul (2:58)
    • Ultimo Guerrero pulpo Guerrero Dragon Rojo (2:59)
  2. Team Ultimo Guerrero
    • La Mascara casita Atlantis (6:28)

Winner: Team Ultimo Guerrero (2-1)
Match Time: 9:26
Notes: Mascara challenged Atlantis to a title match next week. Atlantis agreed, as long as they had a super libre match right now. Mascara stole his mask and walked off.

Review: [ok] build up for Mascara/Atlantis, which sure didn’t seem to be the feud last week. Marco was easily the best guy in this rushed match. It wasn’t a complete waste and it was more entertaining than the early matches, but there wasn’t a lot to it beyond the one feud they were building up. Diamatne Azul’s kicks are all over the place. UG was less annoying.

Marco is the best

Match 6: Mistico, Valiente, Volador Jr. © vs Cavernario, Mr. Niebla ©, Negro Casas for the CMLL World Trios Championship
Arena Puebla, 11/16/2015

  1. Sky Team
    • Volaodr Jr top rope huracanrana barbaro Cavernario (5:08)
    • Valiente tapatia Negro Casas (5:16)
  2. Peste Negra
    • Mr. Niebla top rope splash Mistico (1:27)
  3. Sky Team
    • Negro Casas casita Volador (2:39)
    • Mistico casita Volador (2:46)
    • La Mistica on Barbaro Cavernario (3:27)

Winner: Sky Team (2-1)
Match Time: 10:10
Notes: Mr. Niebla took out the first and second rows on taking Valiente’s top in the third fall, and needed medical attention after.

Review: [good] a very short title match, which probably should’ve been assumed when they listed six minutes (and when it’s a Puebla main event generally.) They had a really good 10 minute match, but it was one fall of five minutes and two under three minutes, there’s really not much you’re going to be able to do with those limitations (self imposed or not.) The second fall was the abrupt quick fall, but the third fall felt more truncated because those falls are expected to be long and this was really almost nothing. The high spots were nice but it didn’t leave all that much time for drama. This was nice, and would’ve been a fine treat as a throw away match, but they could’ve had so much of a better title match especially on a night like there were Mr. Niebla seemed tuned in. Negro Casas barely got to do anything in this match, Volador was out of the third fall in nearly two minutes, there were no real near falls. This was unsatisfying.
