Gran Apache is a crazy grandfather

Recapped: 10/03/2015

What happenedLa Hiedra pinned Faby Apache, and decided this earned her a title shot. Taya disagreed. Pentagon beat Jack in some revenge for last week’s outcome. Mesias says he’s targeting Fenix, thought didn’t really do much of it in the main event.

What was good: The bonus tag match from UTDN and the main event tag were fun. I liked this show better than the Cancun one, though I may be on an island on that.

Where can I watch it: It’s on my channel and AAA’s channel with an extra match.

Taya and La Hiedra are relaxing on beach chairs. Hiedra says she wants a title shot – who’d deserves the opportunity more than her? Taya finds this hilarious: Hiedra’s too new, she’s got to do something to even consider getting a match for Taya. “You lost against Goya!” Good point. Hiedra blames the weight difference. She tells Taya they’re friends, but she’s better than Taya. Taya is aghast – they’re not going to be friends any longer with that attitude.

Match 1: Faby Apache & Goya Kong vs La Hiedra & Taya

Winner: rudas (La Hiedra top rope con giro senton)
Match Time: 9:44
Notes: Hiedra and Taya are back to being friends here. Tirantes is referee. Late in the match, for no apparent reason, Tirantes blocks Goya from splashing La Hiedra. (Announcers try to explain Hiedra is hurt, but she’s not selling an injury and is fine seconds later.) Goya smashes Tirantes in the corner and buttwipes him as revenge. Tirantes later helps the rudas put Goya on the top rope to throw her off. Faby takes out both rudas for a few moments before they finish her with a Taya side slam and Hiedra top rope move. Hiedra covers, and Taya is pushing her off and trying to cover herself on the pin.

Review: [ok] Usual Goya match; I’m not really sure how good these matches are going to be when they had to work to her style. Faby looked good during the finish, but there were more problems in this match than in the previous week’s version. Hiedra hasn’t looked bad in these, but hasn’t stood out much either. Finish was weird with Taya trying to steal the pin. Everyone ignored it, and then they kind of explained it later in the vignette.

I’m not sure if this worked

Match 2: Argenis & Drago vs El Apache & Hijo de Pirata Morgan

Winner: tecnicos (Argenis torito Gran Apache)
Match Time: 10:07
Notes: Match did not air on Televisa. It’s joined in progress on UTDN, though they do their best to hide it. Piero is referee.

Review: [good] best match so far on this block of shows. Pirata & Apache sold big for their opponents and Drago looked technically clean in all he did. Gran Apache slapped people so many times. Argenis didn’t have many problems, but he seemed to revert back to generic offense in these last two matches and wasn’t as impressive as he has been recently.

foreshadowing: Argenis leaves and then immediately returns
Drago tornillo

Match 3: Angélico & Jack Evans vs Hijo del Fantasma & Texano Jr. and Joe Lider & Pentagón Jr.

Winner: Pentagon & Joe Lider (Pentagon Jr. package piledrvier Jack Evans)
Match Time: 10:50
Notes: Referee is Tirantes. The four rudos work together to beat up the tecnicos, with the tecnicos only taking control when one rude team or the other gets out for a moment.

Review: [ok] The guys in the match did their best to work around the problem of the structure of the match, but it mostly made me want to see a better match. Jack & Angelico’s run in the last four minutes was good, but it felt like a long time to get there. Jack getting pinned cleaned is weird since he’s getting the title shot anyway, but it doesn’t matter. Angelico managed to land in between three people standing there to catch him, which is about impossible.

Pentagon flying at you feet first is not a good sign
Angelico tope con giro is explosive

Noti AAA

  • La Hiedra points out to Taya that she beat Faby. Taya said she did the work. Hiedra says the win was hers, and soon the title will be as well. Taya is not pleased.
  • Mesias hates these kids, especially Fenix. Zuniga explains they’ll have a match at Heroes Inmortales
  • A cackling Myzetziz says he and Mysterio made a good team, but he’s the true idol and the better luchador
  • Johnny Mundo, in front of a waving Alberto flag, talks about coming to SLP for the AAA Mega Championship. Mundo is better at wrestling than any luchador. America and Mexico is much better than USA. This promo has many reggae horns.
  • An emotional Aerostar shows off the first outfit he wore, which was designed by Antonio Pena and talks about Pena as a person.

Match 4: Fénix, Psycho Clown, Rey Mysterio Jr. vs Brian Cage, El Mesías, Myzteziz
Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya, Puerto Aventuras, Quintana Roo, 09/13/2015

Winner: tecnicos (Psycho Clown Schwein El Mesias)
Match Time: 12:28
Notes: Referee is Piero.

Review: [good] fun enough main event tag. The beatdown (also) dragged in this one, but the last few minute sprint was really entertaining. Fenix looked like a superstar in this match, with his springboard dropkicks looking very sharp. Psycho Clown didn’t fit in as well in the main event mix; the slap everyone spot gets a good reaction but seems too silly for a big main event. Mesias mailed in like usual – his punches and kicks near the finish were so bad and TV didn’t do much to hide them – but Cage worked well with everyone.

Rey Mysterio, leaving in a cool car, thanks the fans for their support. The most important people to him are the kids, and he’s hoping he’s helping them live their dreams thru him. And he drives off.
