CMLL Puebla: 2015-09-21

Zaeta Roja double springboard armdrag

Recapped: 10/22/2015

What happened: Molotov suddenly decided he hated Lestat and needed to be a rudo. Not sure how that’s going to turn out for him. A few days after Atlantis beat La Sombra in one of the biggest matches of his career, Atlantis also beat Rey Escorpion .

What was good: The Dragon Lee version of the Sly team versus the Hijos was good. I liked what we saw of this show generally live, but it didn’t come across as well on TV, or I’m just a horribly mean grader. Could be both!

Where can I watch it: It’s on CMLL’s YouTube channel. There’s lot of live clips on RobViper’s YouTube.

  1. rudos
    • Toro Bill step over armbar Principe Diamante (6:16)
  2. tecnicos
    • Principe Diamante half crab Guerrero Especial (3:10)
    • Paris top rope splash Toro Bill (3:28)
  3. rudos
    • Rey Apocalipsis single leg scissors Paris (3:03)
    • Guerrero Especial powerbomb Principe Diamante (3:43)

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 13:27

Review: [ok] some good moments but not a good match and not quiet the level of previous openers. The rookie mistakes and nervousness shined thru this time, especially with hesitations and botches in the third fall. Principe Diamante nearly did neat things, but it was only nearly. Paris looked more impressive in later matches. Zaeta Roja wore almost no red, which is the biggest mistake. Toro Bill stooging around like for Zaeta was fun.

Match 2: Lestat, Molotov, Oro Jr. vs Akuma, Metálico, Policeman

  1. rudos
    • Metalico inside cradle Lestat (6:19)
    • Akuma kneeling tiburzon Molotov (6:27)
  2. rudos
    • Policeman inside cradle Molotov (3:13)
    • Akuma inside cradle Lestat (3:13)

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 9:40
Notes: Lestat accidentally missile dropkicks Molotov to set up the first fall loss. Molotov knocks Lestat off the ropes to steal the pin for himself in the second, but Metalico kicks out of his senton. Lestat and Metalico argue and the tecnicos cradle them for the win. Metalico attacks Lestat after the match, allying himself with the rudos and taking Lestat’s mask.

Review: [below average] largely boring match outside of the turn, which is about as random as it gets. The match started teasing Metalico/Oro problems, then did turn to Molotov/Lestat on the missile dropkick which caused the end of the first fall. Molotov showed more aggression in his post match attack on Lestat than he would show the rest of the feud. You could see it maybe working based off this match. The rest of the match didn’t have much, couldn’t be expected to have much given the angle.

Match 3: Fuego, Guerrero Maya Jr., Tritón vs Boby Zavala, Disturbio, Kamaitachi

  1. tecnicos
    • Guerrero Maya suastica Bobby Zavala (7:23)
  2. rudos
    • Kamaitachi double knee drop Fuego (4:37)
    • Disturbio pulpo Triton (4:52)
  3. tecnicos
    • Boby Z standing grapevine Maya (4:44)

Winner: tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 16:59
Notes: Triton was a sub for Delta, but got banged up in the first fall and was holding his head the rest of the way. The medics tried to remove him from the match during the second fall, but he finished.

Review: [ok] this is another one where I enjoyed the match live and it doesn’t seem as interesting on TV. The second fall seems like it falls apart after they check on Triton and Zavala’s finish at the end looks weak. In between, there’s just a lot of stomping. Triton looked good, and it was more impressive given he seemed to have a splitting headache after being dropkicked in the head by Zavala. It’s really obvious when Triton was supposed to do his diving headscissors off the ramp onto Kamaitachi on video – Miki Moto had been ushered back to her seat, stood up to get a shot of Kamaitachi reacting and didn’t realize she was in the way until much later. (And then the camera people missed them doing the move later and never got a replay.) Disturbio looks confident and like he belonged here and on the Anniversary show; he’s an En Busca de un Idolo success.

Match 4: Dragon Lee, Valiente, Volador Jr. vs Ephesto, Luciferno, Mephisto

  1. Hijos del Infierno
    • Luciferno Hooligan Crash Dragon Lee (4:00)
    • Mephisto Devil’s Wings Valiente (4:00)
  2. tecnicos
    • Volador backcracker Mephisto (2:35)
  3. Hijos del Infierno
    • Mephisto foul kick Volador (4:19)

Winner: Hijos del Infienro (2-1)
Match Time: 10:54
Review: [good] simple but effective trios match, with Dragon Lee sort of playing the role of Mistico (only being much better and getting less attention.) There was a lot of Volador taking on the world all by himself and winning, which is always fun. The rudos were mostly to catch the tecnicos but had no big problem with that. The foul was hilariously not close to being a foul but the action before it was fine.

Match 5: Atlantis vs Rey Escorpión

  1. Rey Escorpion half crab (1:53)
  2. Atlantis casadora cradle (2:46)
  3. Atlantida (6:35)

Winner: Atlantis (2-1)
Match Time: 11:14
Notes: Escorpion attacks Atlantis from behind as Atlantis is entering to get the match underway.

Review: [OK] Basic singles match between the two, along the liens of Atlantis’ regular singles matches for the last couple years. I wasn’t expecting another Anniversary match and wasn’t surprised by what I got, but this is nothing to go out of the way to watch. This seemed like an unusually short show at the time, but appears to be the new standard now. A lot of main event rudos attacking the tecnico to get the match started quick as well. This singles match was longer than a lot of those trios matches.
