Astral gets blasted by a dropkick

Recapped: 10/06/2012

What happened: Astral kept the CMLL minis title. Triton beat Cavernario and asked for a title shot. Cavernario accepted it, but only while taking Triton’s mask.

What was good: I really enjoyed the minis match, and liked the third match.

Where can I watch it: I have it on YouTube. (I don’t have a copy of the main event.)

a highlight?

Review: [ok] This was a generic segunda level match which I could not get in to at all. Bad sign to start a marathon viewing of this shows. Stigma looked better than usual. Canelo and Nitro and the usual guys who aren’t very good did not, though Stigma is small enough that Canelo can throw him down by some force to make his finish look good. I’m pretty sure Nitro is doing a move he wouldn’t be able to take at this point. The surprise finish in the first fall was random.

maybe don’t stand there taunting

Review: [great] upper end CMLL title match, with both guys having a really good night. Astral has molded himself into a strange looking person, but he managed to pull off everything he wanted to here. (The only slip was the loss of balance early on, but he kept it together.) Mercurio is possibly the best rude in a stacked division right now, but looked nearly as good a tecnico with his dives in the second and third fall. Astral had a good third fall, or it would’ve felt like the wrong guy won. Crowd got into it, which is always a challenge on Tuesday and especially with guys who aren’t treated as stars. The only major physical flaw was whatever was supposed to happen in the second fall, but they worked thru it. There were a lack of near falls and a lot of drama in the first two falls, but they packed it in the third fall with a few really good near finishes. The Skayde Special finish caught everyone by surprise, and Astral actually winning by using Mercurio’s killer move was a nice touch.

ringpost tope con giro

Review: [good] this was a weird one: Maya and Zavala spend most of the match heavily feuding as follow up to the En Busca final, and then are nowhere near each other near the finish. Their feuding was fun and they really should retry the singles match someday. Match was generally good though it might be also one I have one identifying later. Delta looked good in this match, though a lot of that came with Puma so I’m not sure it really counts for Delta. Points to Okumura for figuring out how to turn make his hanging DDT flow better in the course of a match. Highlight of C3 production work is Zavala beating up Maya at ringside to start the third fall, only the director can’t be bothered to cut a shot to it and the announcers are busy interviewing random fans.

Sacrifica Maya

Match 4: Fuego, The Panther, Tritón vs Cavernario, Rey Bucanero, Vangellys

  1. tecnicos
    • rudos triple kicks Fuego (4:34)
    • DQ Barbaro Cavernario [mask pull Triton] (5:52)
  2. tecnicos
    • Fuego Flashina Vangellys (1:56)
    • Triton springboard gullotine legdrop (2:56)

Winner: tecnicos (2-0)
Match Time: 8:48
Notes: Triton challenged for a welterweight championship match next week (plus one day – it’s moved to Wednesday.) Cavernario declined. Triton called Cavernario scared. Cavernario attacked Triton from behind, declared he wasn’t scared, and accepted while slapping Triton and taking his mask.

Trtion con giro

Review: [ok] strong build up for Cavernario/Triton. It wasn’t much of a match, but they turned into a mask ripping feud in short time, and Triton got in a few spots to look good. This could’ve used a bit more but it served it’s purposes. I enjoyed how Vangelis and Rey Bucanero were annoyed over losing the first fall, didn’t enjoy as much as they did the slowest possible high low double kick.

Rey sells the top by walking away
