CMLL to air Dia de Muertos show on cleeng (for a mystery amount of money)

I saw that still this morning, figured it was the same Dia de Muertos promo, and didn’t bother watching it. That was not the right move. CMLL announced they’ll be back on cmll.cleeng.com to stream the 10/30 (Friday) Dia de Muertos show.

You can not sign up right now. Right now, it’s a 10/20, 7:30pm show listed. CMLL separately announced the Tuesday opener will be streaming on the internet. This is that, and a test to see if whatever they’re doing will work for the PPV.

It’s unclear how much the iPPV will cost. The video doesn’t mention a price. The cleeng site gives the impression that it’ll be free, but that’s because it’s only showing the test broadcast. The last show was $10 USD plus fees.

It’s good for CMLL is trying this out whatever they’re doing it before doing it for ‘real’. It’ll help convince them if they can secure access. Most people, fresh off seeing the Anniversary show for free, will probably wait about 15 minutes into the Dia De Muertos broadcast to see if it’s also available for free. If it’s not, most of those will people probably just go onto do something else because it’s already 15 minutes into a show. The numbers for this show are going to be way down from last time, and not just because it’s no longer an Anniversary show. It’s the price of breaking trust.

It’s too bad, because these Dia de Muertes shows were visually interesting last and much more of a show than a normal Friday night card. They had big singles matches last year and might again this year. (Watch for an angle on Friday?) It’s a little close to the Anniversary show, but this show otherwise makes sense as a the sort of special attraction you could get people to pay to see.

CMLL hasn’t said anything besides the video. The thing I’m most sure about is CMLL announcers will spend the next week and a half plugging this thing between every single fall of every single match, so we’ll probably find out a little bit more on tonight’s Puebla show.
