Lucha Underground, Myzteziz, Alberto notes, Guadalajara results

CMLL (TUE) 10/13/2015 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [CMLL]
1) Mr. Trueno & Rey Trueno b Explosivo & Metatrón
2) Gallo, Robin, Stigma b Arkángel de la Muerte, Canelo Casas, Maléfico
3) Misterioso Jr., Pierroth, Sagrado b Blue Panther Jr., Pegasso, Starman
4) Boby Zavala, Dragón Rojo Jr., Pólvora b Gran Guerrero, Kráneo, Último Guerrero
Polvora replaced Thunder, so he didn’t make his return after all. Kraneo landed a top rope pslash on the Revolucionarios for the win.
5) Negro Casas & Shocker © b La Máscara & Volador Jr. [CMLL TAG]
Shocker & Negro Casas 8th defense, 7 against at least one member of Los Ingobernables. Shocker & Mascara were eliminated in the third fall, Volador seemed to be about to get the win, and La Mascara gave his own partner a backcracker.

Predictably dumb finish for designed to be dumb match. It would almost be justifiable if they were anyone cared about La Mascara versus Volador (their singles matches suggested no one did) or if they were going to set them up for a big rivalry. This was a dumb finish to kill some time, with a team probably only put together because Rush & Sombra are still banned from working here and maybe Marco had better things to do.

Thunder’s next match is Monday in Puebla. Hope Polvora or Boby Zavala is free. It’s crazy how many times they’ve listed Thunder and taken him off the card in the last few months.

CMLL’s results do not mention Myzteziz appearing. Elite Lucha Libre posted video, and says their show with Myzteziz will take place on November 1st (Sunday.)

The WON had more about the Myzetziz situation. Meltzer’s belief is tension between Alberto and Myzteziz was the biggest reason Myzteziz left, and also believes Myzteziz being slotted as the #3 star (behind Rey & Alberto) played a role. Alberto and Myzteziz had to be kept away from each other on show they were both booked on, because AAA feared something really bad might happen. (There’s a mention of both guys having “unsavory connections.”) I’d assume one of the shows they had to be kept away from each other was TripleMania, because that’s right after everything happened, and that probably only added to a rough night for AAA.

The article on Myzteziz says AAA officials – Dorian & Konnan specifically – were told not to speak publicly about Myzteziz and that everyone still figures that means this is going to end up in court, but nothing’s be finalized. (It’s also a weird situation, because there’s so much information in this week’s WON which appears to have come from conversations with AAA officials. Not a lot about Myzteziz though, but there’s definitely a “he wasn’t that big a deal for us anyway” paragraph in there.) The article claims AAA was more upset about Myzteziz trying to recruit people to come with him, something AAA did not know occurred until after Myzteziz left. Elite Lucha Libre has definitely hinted to the press that more people are coming from AAA. AAA says here that no one else is coming. Averno is specifically mentioned as telling AAA that he was not leaving.

Myzteziz is starting a press tour to promote the Elite Lucha Libre show. He was on Azteca Deportes show last night, talking about the group as if it was a new promotion. An interview with ESTO posted today has everyone talking as if Myzteziz came straight from the US back to Arena Mexico with nothing in between. It’s amazing to me that he’s back to wearing his Myzteziz mask, since that’s obviously owned by AAA and is only risking trouble. (Happy birthday, Dorian Roldan.) He’s sticking with the story that he’s not back in CMLL and just on the road there. CMLL usually has a Thursday or Friday interview in ESTO, and it’s awful convenient for Myzteziz to be in that spot.

AAA posted the long TV version of Heroes Inmortales part 1. The last image of Myzteziz in AAA is him getting beat up by the La Sociedad, but they appeared to edit down the beating and did not show the guitar shot to the head. That TV show would’ve been finished well before they knew Myzteziz was leaving and there’s a good chance this upcoming week’s show was already done as well. The first chance AAA might have to address Myzteziz as part of their show would be in Reynosa this Saturday. AAA hasn’t announced a replacement for Myzteziz on that show as of yet, though there’s no chance he’s working that show.

The WON mentions AAA”s at least considered introducing someone new as Myzteziz, maybe even Flamita, but believes that won’t happen.

Kcidis draws Myzteziz’s search for a new name.

The Richest had an interview with Eric Van Wagenen about Lucha Underground. Van Wagenen says the season 2 took “proving to [investors] there was a path where we could make the show profitable.” I’m still not sure what this path is, but it must be convincing enough for them to go on. If they complete some of those ever mysterious but seemingly never closing deals, then they would probably have enough money for more seasons/episodes, which would begin to tape this summer. Season 2 is mentioned as probably wrapping in the spring in time for him to move on to the Apprentice; presumably that would mean Season 3 (or 2.5) would take place after he’s done with that show.

Questions from Ultima Lucha will be answered over the first few episodes, but not in ways you’d expect. If you really liked the sci-fi/fantasy aspects of the show, it sounds like you’ll be getting a more of it in Season 2. If you didn’t like that, then maybe you need to watch it on DVR to fast forward. They’re looking to add more women (and it’s implied women who can have matches, since it’s said in addition to Sexy Star and Ivelisse and not the other women.) Most people will be coming back, but not everyone and new people will be coming in.

EVW says they’re “there are ongoing negotiations and conversations happening with a video on demand service.” DVDs aren’t brought up. EVW acknowledges this situation is frustrating. It doesn’t sound like DVDs are close to happening. EVW, unprompted “we don’t have pay-per-views” to build, which sounds like they’re not in the plans for year 2. It’s still going to be a TV show, and unless something changes, you’ll only be able to see it on TV (or one of the many illegal downloads.)

The Wrestling Observer had it’s own Lucha Underground news. Alberto “right now is unlikely to return.” He wants more money and he wants to be in the main event. He complained publicly about his Ultima Lucha match with Mundo being the opener (he wanted the main event), and complained privately that he was told the promotion would be built around him and it hasn’t happened to his satisfaction. While WWE would want him back, it seems like TNA is the one making the bigger push, offering the same promise of building everything around him. He could still do AAA if he went to TNA. The TNA thing is strange because of their uncertain 2016 future – it’s mentioned elsewhere in the newsletter that Lucha Underground and AAA have gotten calls from TNA people about coming to them (and are said to only want people who can already work their style.) It could be TNA believes Alberto will open doors for them to help them survive.

Alberto say he’s not showing up in Merida (tomorrow on the WWE show) and you should stop believing things you read on the internet.

Rey Horus, Flamita and Speedball Mike Bailey are “names that have been talked about for the new season”, but no deals are done. My hunch is if Flamita & Speedball show up on the AAA TV tapings as scheduled, they’ll also be on Lucha Underground. The rosters of the two aren’t connected, but anyone working for AAA can be used in Lucha Underground and those guys are obvious ones to use. A couple different sections of the newsletter mentions Will Ospery, but says he wasn’t interested in relocating from England right now (and neither promotion is going to fly someone in from Europe at this point; this also suggests Mike Bailey is relocating from Canada.)

AAA is said to have no idea what’s going on Electroshock, were under the impression he was staying until the Facebook post came out, and unsure what it means. (The section also mentions there were plans to do something with him and Hijo del Pirata Morgan, which sure seems to be dropped on TV. The Mascara 2000 Jr. angle has drifted off to oblivion too.) For his part, Electroshock deleted his Facebook post asking for indy bookings and now has photos of himself praying in front of the Antonio Pena memorial.

Star Fire is mentioned as someone coming in to AAA.

Marcela was announced as Keira’s surprise opponent for the Cara Lucha match on Saturday. They’ve had good matches elsewhere. Cara Lucha also posted a Trauma I interview talking about his match with Hechicero.

The Lucha Mexico documentary will premier in New York on November 13. Shocker and Strongman will be part of the panel taking questions.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

I didn’t watch CMLL Informa and I’m okay with that. Skandalo was interviewed so maybe he’s really actually returning. They talked to Super Astro, Atlantis about the Universal tournament, and Shockercito about his hair match. There’s also a piece on Demus 3:16 on CMLL.com, noting he’s now been there for 10 years.

Luchador/trainer Apando Black talks about the lucha libre situation in Irapuato.

Plantilla Deportiva has interviews with Isis and Zeuxis.

Sagrado Tormento won the Pacific Coast lightweight championship.

2) Atlantis, Máscara Sagrada, Tinieblas Jr. vs El Dandy, Mano Negra, Scorpio Jr.
3) Canek, Dos Caras Sr., Rayo de Jalisco Jr. vs Cien Caras, Máscara Año 2000, Universo 2000

5) Toscano vs Ex Sin Cara, Zumbi

This is an entertaining one: there’s not a building announced for this show. There’s not even a city or state! The idea is the same promoters are running a show in Monterrey on the 25th and this will probably end up there if it goes well (and maybe they don’t want to tell the Monterrey people that a bigger show is coming three weeks later), but I have no idea why you announce a lineup if you can’t announce where it’s happening.

Main event is a really weird use of Myzteziz and suggests they were specifically told they couldn’t put him in a match with CMLL luchadors.

  1. Roberto Figueroa on his Facebook profile published that he interviewed J. Manuel Mazatan of Lucha Libre KDNA on his radio show…This man said that on the November show at Gimnasio Nuevo Lewon, Johnny Mundo ig taking the place of Myzteziz, and that also Argenis, Argos and….Averno will not be part of that show… it sounds like Averno would follow his compadre into independent land….

  2. I say change Mizteziz’ name back to Mistico, and if CMLL owns the Sin Cara name in Mexico, change Mistico LaNueva Era to Sin Cara. There… end of confusion. Ok, maybe not.

  3. ” there’s definitely a “he wasn’t that big a deal for us anyway” paragraph in there.”

I think they can say that, and can be true to some extent, but you can also say the same about El Patron… and Rey Misterio Jr 2nd AAA run has pretty much flopped… OK, there was some pretty bad luck with their PPVs and it’s not Rey’s fault, but still he has not really produced huge crowds and is now touring regular shows, even in smaller venues (Reynosa went from a baseball stadium to a smaller gym, and Nuevo Lared is repeating Polyforum, even though there are bigger places to run).

Anyways, I think Alberto and Rey Jr were important for AAA to open international markets, which has not happened, Lucha Underground is well liked, but it doesn’t look as if AAA is touring the States, and the show has not been picked up by foreign markets yet. They did have a deal in London but it didn’t involve any of the “dream team”. If they’re not gonna run bigger venues, AAA needed a brand split, so that they would have more revenue by running more shows and tv tapings (they need a second show, even more so with CMLL and WWE gone from free tv)…

heck, even Lucha Underground needed a brand extension, have 2 LU shows, an El Rey version (same as it is), and an Unimas version where El Patron was the main eventer. But AAA probably doesn’t have the logistics to pull it off.
