around and around and around

What happened? Nothing outside of Tirantes calling an unplanned DQ again.

What was good? I enjoyed the semimain, which was an energetic mix of people who don’t usually mix

Where can I watch? It’s up on my YouTube channel.

Match 1: Bengala & Robin vs Apocalipsis & Espanto Jr.
Arena México, 08/25/2015
Video: thecubsfan

actual team work
  • rudos
    • Espanto Jr. top rope splash Bengala (3:53)
    • Robin & Espanto Jr. press slam powerbomb Robin (4:17)
  • técnicos
    • Bengala triangular del solar Espanto Jr. (3:07)
    • Robin senton con giro Apocalispis (3:35)
  • rudos
    • Apocalispis Espectrino Bengala (2:20)
    • Espanto Canadian Destroyer Robin (2:50)

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 10:42
Notes: The doctor wandered to ringside check on someone, but it’s not clear who. Someone at ringside, maybe, because no one in the match appears to be hurt. Pompin gets distracted by whatever was going and missed a pinfall attempt. Pompin also barely signals Bengala’s submission in the third fall. It’s not totally clear he’s out until he’s out until they all just stopped fighting.

Review: [below average] I watched a chunk of this at double speed; they sure moved fast. The set up to the first fall finish was nicely done. Apocalipsis’ second rope low blow dropkick looked horrendous. Apocalispis doing evasion spots with Bengala was kind of embarrassing. Apocalispis is well in the argument for the worst guy on the roster. Espanto continues to very slightly better than he was, but needs a personality.

A Destroyer in the course of action

Match 2: Astral, Eléctrico, Shockercito vs Demus 3:16, Mercurio, Pierrothito
Arena México, 08/25/2015
Video: thecubsfan

this ended better than it started
  • tecnicos
    • Electrico springboard elbow drop Pierrothito (4:49)
    • Shockercito reinera Mercurio (4:51)
  • rudos
    • Mercurio sit down powerbomb Shockercito (3:11)
    • Demus reverse bow and arrow Electrico (3:33)
  • rudos
    • DQ Pierrothito [unmasked Astral] (4:48)

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 13:12
Notes: Astral tried to put on a leg lock at the end of the match, Pierrothito went to small package him, and only got his mask. That was enough for the DQ

Review: [ok] This was a good match at times, but there were quite a few inexplicably botched spot. Pierrothito not catching Shockercito in the third fall, Astral’s botched springboard in the first, whatever was happening at the end of the second fall really stood out. The big spots at the end of the third fall looked great and the regular spots looked fine at times, it just needed to look smoother getting there. The finish came off like it was a botched attempt at pulling Astral into a cradle and not the intended result.

Demus has had enough of these springboard armdrags
Mercurio thought they were doing the leapfrog spot

Match 3: Hombre Bala Jr., Starman, Súper Halcón Jr. vs Cancerbero, Nitro, Raziel
Arena México, 08/25/2015
Video: thecubsfan

  • rudos
    • Raziel STF Super Halcon (6:52)
    • Nitro pumphandle cradle Starman (7:36)
  • tecnicos
    • Starman standing scorpion Nitro (3:57)
  • rudos
    • DQ rudos [in the ring too long] (2:53)

Nitro diving?

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 14:26
Notes: Raziel & Cancerbero were counted in the ring for too long and Tirantes called for the DQ just as they were finishing their tapatia reverse neckbreaker

Review: [below average] Lesser variation of an often repeated match, complete with Tirantes going into business for himself on the finish. Tirantes knew what he was doing, knew Cancerbero & Raziel would not likely finish their hold on time, and was thrilled he could take away their win. He’s kind of the worst. I did not miss Starman on this show. This too had some unexpected bumpiness, with people being out of position in the first fall and everyone being confused by Nitro’s winning cradle in that fall. Raziel also picked the toughest way to apply an STF (which, being a mat hold, was completely hidden by the replay graphic.) Hombre Bala seemed to suffer a right wrist or forearm injury on his dropkick/splash move and was moving slowly thru the rest of the double team spots, which sucked for him and took away from the energy of the double teams. Those were supposed to be the bright spots for the match, though Nitro throwing himself into an apron top con giro was a nice change of pace. Probably giving it too low of a grade because of the finish, but there’s not a lot to point to positive here and it’s less than these guys – even with Nitro as an anchor – should be accomplishing.

two for one special

Match 4: Ángel de Oro, Fuego, Tritón vs Cavernario, Rey Bucanero, Terrible
Arena México, 08/25/2015
Video: thecubsfan

watch the ramp
  • rudos
    • Cavernario boost missile dropkick Angel de Oro (6:28)
  • tecnicos
    • Fuego La Flashina Terrible (1:42)
  • rudos
    • rudos triple submission (4:06)

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 12:16

Triton spun out

Review: [good] a match which actually felt new! This gets bonus points just for that, and felt like a good new match at the same time. The rudos destroyed in the first fall and the tecnicos are good at being destroyed, and the rudos were in the right place for the tecnicos moves in the second fall.  Fuego beating Terrible is not something I expected to see, but it was cool to happen even in a meaningless fall. Triton taking over Dragon Rojo’s ramp dive headscissors sounds like a much safer idea for everyone. Rey Bucanero is really slow, but in the right place for everything. The dive catch spot didn’t come off perfectly, but it still went really well. This is the second or third time I’ve seen this triple submission this week. I don’t know if everyone was just working on it training or if it’s meant to be a TGR thing.

they have this one scouted!
the fans were not allowed to keep Triton

Match 5: La Máscara, Máximo, Titán vs Gran Guerrero, Kamaitachi, Último Guerrero
Arena México, 08/25/2015
Video: thecubsfan

  • tecnicos
    • La Mascara campana Ultimo Guerrero (5:46)
    • Titan satellite headscissors into cradle Kamaitachi (5:54)
  • rudos
    • DQ Gran Guerrero [foul to Maximo] (4:35)
Maximo tope

Winner: rudos (2-0)
Match Time: 10:21

Review: [ok] Kamaitachi as a Guerrero, basically. He took it much easier on La Mascara with the ramp dropkick than he usually does to La Mascara, but also did his dance better than La Mascara. La Mascara kind of blew the superkick on the first fall comeback. This match made me feel like I missed a patented Guerrero quick fall. It was rushed. There was a Gran Guerrero & Maximo feud not noticed in the recap, and somewhat concerning as a title match. More concerning is the lack of things for Titan to do. Didn’t even get a neat sequence with him and Kamaitachi here. Titan did the regular things and they looked great, but it felt like they could be doing new things and I still really want a full match between them. I’d take a lightning match.
