AAA on Televisa: 2015-08-29

how was this ever going to work?

Recapped: 09/05/2015

What happened? Myzteziz turned heel, lost 100% clean, turned heel again, and then turned down the other heels but hung out with them. It was even more confusing than it reads (but TV did clean it up a bit.) Alberto got revenge on Cage, shaving his head and burying him under a flag. Blue Demon got a trophy for being Blue Demon.

What was good? The tag match was not, nope. Alberto/Cage gets overwhelmed by it being a big AAA match.

Where can I watch? The pirated version of this show are easy to find on YouTube, but the TV version doesn’t have the production issues; you want the version on AAA’s channel.

Match 1: Blue Demon Jr. & La Parka vs El Mesías & Electroshock
Arena Ciudad de Mexico, Ciudad de México, Distrito Federal, 08/09/2015
Video: James Luchas y mas, +LuchaTV, luchalibreaaatv

Winner: tecnicos (Blue Demon el Pulpo Mesias)
Match Time: 8:22
Notes: Recapped off the PPV version, which has the video breaking down about 3 minutes into the match. Live, Electroshock came back to the ring to tease a fight with Demon, but backed down. Only the backing down makes the iPPV, and only barely – they’re in replay during that time.

a highlight from this match

Review: [okay] just a regular match. Live, it appeared they weren’t any good and weren’t really trying for much. On the PPV, it appears some were trying but still aren’t much good. Mesias doesn’t care that much in AAA anymore. If it wasn’t for Mil Muertes, I wouldn’t be sure on the reason for keeping him around. There were a couple of extra spots, but it was the sort of disposable tag match which might fill up a card in mid January, not really something belonging on a major show.

Match 2: Alberto el Patrón vs Brian Cage for the hair
Arena Ciudad de Mexico, Ciudad de México, Distrito Federal, 08/09/2015
Video: James Luchas y mas, thecubsfan, luchalibreaaatv

Winner: Alberto (Rompe Destinos armbar)
Match Time: 14:36

Alberto tope

Notes: Brian Cage is wearing a Trump for president shirt. Hijo del Tirantes is referee. Fantasma is Cage’s second. Alberto has Fenix as a second. Both are freely interfering a few minutes in. Fenix ends up destroyed by the rudos and vanishes after about six minutes. Alberto eventually wins relatively clean with the armbar after plenty of rudo interference.

Review: [ok] I started to watch this again, then I saw Tirantes walk and, and suddenly I had no desire to watch this again. This is the literal continuation of the Verano de Escandalo match, as if they just came back out and continued where they left off, with no pretense of opening this any other way than a weapons brawl and copious interference. This was less compelling on TV, because the fan reactions felt stronger in person and those carried it past it being a style of match I didn’t really want to see. (This is one where it’s tough to take the near falls seriously because there’s a table set up in the ring which hasn’t been broke.) All the stuff complained about last time is still here. It’s better with Alberto not putting up with Tirantes being an idiot forever, but it’s also still the same match in spirit. It sucks and it’s not changing, so why spend too much time on it.

Fenix gets in his dive after all
table bomb

Match 3: Rey Mysterio Jr. vs Myzteziz
Arena Ciudad de Mexico, Ciudad de México, Distrito Federal, 08/09/2015
Video: RINGEXTREMO, James Luchas y mas, James Luchas y mas, +LuchaTV, thecubsfan, luchalibreaaatv

Winner: Rey Mysterio (La Mistica)
Match Time: 19:36
Notes: Referee is Maya, with Copetes on the outside. There’s no explanation of why there’s two referees here. Myzteiz gives up to La Mistica the second time it’s applied. Pentaogn, Joe Lider and Averno stomp down Myzteziz after the match for no apparent reason. Mysterio tries to make the save, but is destroyed. They go replays of the match as if the segment is over, and Myzteziz & Rey are making a comeback as they come back live. It feels like a couple minutes of moves. Myzteziz tries to tope Averno, but misses, and the announcers laugh. Mysterio cleans it up with his own dive. Mysterio tries to talk to Myzteziz, but Myzteziz spits in his face when Rey says he won and Myzteziz lost. Myzteziz yells at the crowd and demands a rematch and does a lot of evil laughing. Myzteziz demands a mask match and attacks Misterio, powerbombing him on the English announce desk again, then bringing him in the ring to toss him around. Cut to show ending video package. They come back to the ring to show a mute scene of Konnan talking to Myzteziz then go back to video package, then go back to the ring again to see Konnan offering Myzteiz handshake. Myzteziz doesn’t accept, but talks even more, turning down the deal we didn’t hear. Rudos beat up Misterio even more, and Myzeziz puts on a Perros del Mal shirt before joining in for a long beatdown of Misterio. On TV, Konnan’s promo is shown, but they’re still at replay when the tecnicos start their comeback. The segment ends with Myzteziz turning down Konnan and the long beatdown is edited out.

another table bomb

Review: [great] Match is better on TV; not having good crowd noise worked in their favor, because this comes off as a badly miced strong match rather than one the crowd was whistling as a complaint. The big moves came off bigger, the match felt like it moved quicker and the botched spots I saw in person felt like they were better hidden. There were plenty of big moves, and Rey looked great. He’s supposed to be the more broken down guy, but he outshined Myzteziz in most of this match. It seemed weird to see Myteziz going as a rudo from the start of the match when the rudo turn is supposed to be the big surprise at the end. Myzteziz slamming Rey Misterio on a table only for Mysterio to get right up and move to the apron feels like someone , and then suplex off the apron looks like it was not thought out at all – how would’ve it worked without Mistico falling over thru the table too?

this was a nice reversal
