CMLL Lucha Azteca: 2015-08-22

Ultimo Guerrere beat up with his own skirt

What happened? Revolucionarios actually beat the Guerreros, though it was mostly due to UG costing himself the match. Sombra’s suddenly feuding with Atlantis, which surely can’t be going anywhere.

What was good? the main event was fun live, TV didn’t totally capture it.

Where can I watch? Links are all below.

    • Dragon Rojo t-shirt dropkick Euforia (3:26)
    • Pólvora frog splash Gran Guerrero (3:53)
  2. Revolucionarios
    • DQ Ultimo Guerrero [foul Ultimo Guerrero] (6:18)

Winner: Revolucionarios (2-0)
Match Time: 10:11
Notes: Referee is Babe Richard. Thunder arrived late in the match and distracted Ultimo Guerrero. Rey Escorpion tried to sneak in a foul, but UG blocked it and fouled him instead for the DQ.

Review: [ok] fine enough brawl that continues the build to Thunder/UG (which then seemed bad and now seems pointless.) Ultimo is better at being a técnico than his partners, but he’s got more practice. Ultimo Guerrero letting go of the pin to confront Thunder was hilarious. Ultimo had Rey Escorpion already pinned for two, he could’ve gotten a ten count before Thunder got close to the ring.

probably stop standing in the aisle everyone

Review: [ok] This week in edited matches. I think this one actually was improved by the editing, because it quickened the pace, but there also still wasn’t a lot to it. It kind of feels like an exhibition for Sugehit, but even attacking that much story to it seems generous. “Everyone do a senton” is the CMLL luchadora tag team move of the year.

double knees of doom

Atlantis has had enough

Review: [ok] this was GOOD live, with an out of control feeling that isn’t going to come off as well on TV. Negro Casas’ injury seems like it comes off his tumble to the floor when Cavernario stopped him from the apron silla near the end of the second fall. He’s holding his arm into his body the rest of the way, and it could explain why the third fall seemed a little off at times. (There’s a one armed faceslam in here.) Tirantes takes absurd ref bumps every time. I can’t believe Marco took the Cavernario splash to the floor. The Atlantis/Sombra feud happens because Volador wouldn’t let Sombra hit Negro Casas. It remains amusing that the big build to the anniversary show was treated by the fans as if it was just an ordinary main event screwjob, though the Azteca editors know to spend a lot of time on it (much more than they did the previous match.) There’s a lot of Sombra/Marco interaction that feels like it needs a bigger payoff, but that’s not the way the match was going.
