CMLL Titanes del Ring: 2015-08-15

good effort

Recapped: 08/29/2015

What happened? Aereo beat Pequeno Violencia for his hair, and the Reyes del Atlantida lose the national trios to the Hijos del Infierno

What was good? Pequeno Violencia wasn’t any good in his big match, but the two trios matches were good.

Where can I watch? This is all in the 2015 August Week 3 playlist. Links are below too.

  1. Pequeño Violencia reverse figure four (1:57)
  2. Aereo hammerlock (2:13)
  3. Aereo facelock armbar (4:46)

Winner: Aereo
Match Time: 8:56
Notes: Referee is Terror Chino. Seconds were Pierrothito and Acero. Pierroth sits on the apron for much of the match and started to get involved when Aereo got Violencia in an armbar late.

Review: [below average] such a nothing match, goes along side Metálico/Oro Jr. as the least of recent CMLL apuesta matches. It felt like a training match at times, with spots not looking right, Pequeño Violencia visibly instructing Aereo on the finishing hold, and non-existent crowd noise. (No one cared about this match at all.) It ended badly and it started badly – it totally looked like Pequeño Violencia was supposed to catch Aereo but didn’t bother. He put his hands up to catch but was never in the right position. Maybe Aereo totally misaimed, but shouldn’t you move? The leglock spot at the started to the third fall was terrible, the sequence leading into the finish was just as bad. There were a few highlights but this didn’t help anyone.

didn’t seem to try much harder on this one

triple tope

Review: [good] barely makes good, the next match is a lot more watchable. This one was right off the CMLL big trios match factory line – extra mat wrestling, everyone doing their regular spots but not bothering to try a pinfall until it’s finish time (because that’s the script), then everyone does a big move in the third fall only for the next guy to break it up, the dumb stacked up superplex – all the same moments as ever with different guys plugged into the roles. There was not extra intensity or thought being put into the match because it was a trios title match; this could’ve as easily been a build up match to the change as it was the change. Hijos del Infierno are champs and there’s no help them, but it feels like the Reyes del Atlantida have reached diminishing returns and would be better off going their own ways just to freshen things up. Atlantis taking the pin was odd, but I guess they figured he was going to beat Mephisto a few days later so it didn’t matter – or it never really matters.

Mistico breaking up the fun

Review: [good] short match, but entertaining for how long it lasted. First two falls were quick but really fun and worked for being that short. There was a lot of big Sky Team action in the first couple falls, a weird team submission to end the second, and the big triple dive spot in the third. It slowed down a bit after that, but it finished out fine. It’s a lot of the usual Sky Team spots with Escorpion and others catching, but it worked here. Camera choices were really annoying me during this match. Rudos do a bit where everyone takes a turn slapping Valiente, except we’re watching it from the farthest possible camera. Místico does a spectacular flip in the first fall, only they change cameras during the flip to make it harder to follow (and to an angle that minimizes the arc.)
