Asturiano on fire

Recapped: 09/28/2015

What happened? Mephisto fouled Volador after a short main event. Challenges indicated a rematch next week. Molotov debuted on the rudo side and continues to feud with Lestat. Kamaitachi argued with Barbaro for about three seconds after their loss, thrilling those of us who are convinced Kama is losing his hair before going back and willing to overread into any hint of a new feud.

What was good? Opener was strong and parts of the tercera were very good. The big matches had a very rushed/mailed in feeling.

Where can I watch this? It’s up on CMLL’s YouTube channel already.

Review: [good] fun opener that might have used a bit more developmental. All the guys who normally look good did well here: Asturiano had a great diving headscissors to the floor, Espiritu took moves well and was amusing, Rey Samurai took a big bump to the floor off a dropkick and was doing fine except when he was rolling. Finishes were a bit dry (Fuerza got beat by a splash twice in a row!) but this was above average for an opener.

Match Time: 12:45
Notes: Referee is Pompin, who was distracted by Police Man on the finish.

Soberano tornillo

Review: [ok] it’s one match, but there’s no immediate sign that Molotov is any better as a rudo as a tecnico. He showed not extra personality or skill. I hope he’s not getting Lestat’s mask, but I really don’t have any interest in that as a match regardless of the outcome. Tiger Rojo Jr. and Policeman were much more entertaining as a pair, and both guys could stand to be around much. The teamwork wpot with Tiger Rojo and Soberano’s dropkick looked good, and Soberano’s tornilo looked awesome.

Match 3: Blue Panther Jr., Stigma, The Panther vs Puma, Sangre Azteca, Tiger

Stigma gets destroyed, part 2

Review: [good] Puma, Tiger and The Panther were moving around at high speeds and putting together good sequences, and everyone else was kind of along for the ride. They actually waited a long time to break out the first superkick, which is very unlike them. The sequences ending the first and second fall were good (except the tecnicos dives were kind of lame; the Panther’s dive in the third was better by a lot.) The Panther versus one of the cats in a singles match would be great, but this felt like a normal tag match. This is one where the noncrowd hurt the match; even when they were doing big stuff, it didn’t feel like anyone was reacting to it.

Match 4: Blue Panther, Dragon Lee, Máximo vs Cavernario, Kamaitachi, Negro Casas
Arena Puebla, 09/28/2015

Zac 619
  1. rudos
    • Barbaro Cavernario top rope splash Blue Panther (1:20)
    • Negro Casas abdominal stretch Maximo (1:40)
  2. tecnicos
    • Maximo springboard butt bump Negro Casas (4:40)
    • Blue Panther nudo laguneo Barbaro Cavernario (4:40)
  3. tecnicos
    • Dragon Lee hanging double stomp Negro Casas (5:12)

Winner: tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 11:32
Notes: Referee is Pompin.

Review: [ok] nothing match, with the Dragon Lee & Kamaitachi not even getter their usual two minutes of killing each other to make up for a low effort day. They did good stuff because they can’t help but doing good stuff, but it wasn’t much. Negro mostly worked with Maximo and Blue Panther barely worked with Cavernario. The five second tease of a Cavernario/Kamaitachi match was the best part of this match.

Match 5: Marco Corleone, Valiente, Volador Jr. vs Ephesto, Luciferno, Mephisto
Arena Puebla, 09/28/2015

Volador con giro
  1. Hijos del Infierno
    • Mephisto Devil’s Wings Volador Jr. (3:45)
  2. tecnicos
    • Marco Corleone Aero Italia Luciferno & Ephesto (3:17)
  3. tecnicos
    • DQ Mephisto [foul on Volador] (2:23)

Winner: tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 9:25
Notes: Referee was Tirantes. Mephisto’s foul was blatant and quick. Valiente & Marco asked for a rematch next week. Rudos were non-committal.

Review: [below average] maybe I was just sleepy but this was even less than the last match, and with a less interesting finish. I’m sure things happened besides Volador getting lightly stomped but not much. You also have the bizarreness of Marco being friends with Volador here after helping destroy him on Friday. They didn’t seem to care, not sure I should either.
