Esfinge’s end

Recapped: 08/14/2015

What happened that mattered? Sombra accepted Atlantis’ challenge for a mask match, which turned out to be a little important (even though I was strongly in denial at the time.) Esfigne lost his En Busca de un Idolo match to Guerrero Maya, which essentially ended his tournament. Disturbio beat Boby Zavala, which turned out both to be enough for Distubrio to advance and kind of inexplicable if Zavala was going to win the tournament anyway. Demus & Shockercito started (or restarted) a feud in the minis match.

Should I go back and watch anything? This was the first of two straight weeks of minis matches; this was the Great one with Stukita especially looking awesome. Definitely worth watching. The En Busca de un Idolo matches and the opener were both good.

Where can I see it?: all the matches are on my secondary YouTube channel, though the video is iffy. Some matches aired on Azteca and those are on my main channel. The En Busca de un Idolo matches are on their channel.

The middle half of this show had to be rewatched much after the fact; I don’t know if I didn’t watch them live or if I just lost the text. Hope it holds togehter.

Magnus con giro

  3. rudos
    • Raziel & Cancerbero double submission on Soberano & Magnus (5:21)

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 15:49

Review: [good] fun opener far ahead of the usual opener. They were doing a lot more than those matches (though they probably could’ve done more if not for the no dive rules). Sobreano came in with a hurt shoulder and seemed hampered in the first fall, but got better as the match. Raziel & Cancerbero gave the tecnicos some offense, though the rudos loked like the winner by the end of the match.

Match 2: Shockercito, Stukita, Último Dragoncito vs Demus 3:16, Mercurio, Pequeño Violencia

saying hello to the front row

Review: [great] a really fun minis match. Stukita & the tecnicos looked good, the double dive into the crowd was crazy. They wrestled this like they were in the fourth match, or like they didn’t care about any restrictions – this was an all out match. Demus & Shockercito worked well, the crowd got into it, and it was a good a minis trios as they’ve done in a while without getting a lot time.

Match 3: Boby Zavala vs Disturbio in a En Busca de un Idolo match

Disturbio launches himself

Review: [good] This match and the next two are being rewatched much after the fact, because the recap of those matches is long missing. This one holds up even without the context of the tournament, just based on the fun of both guys holding true to being a rudo and cheapshotting each other whenever possible. (It does seem wrong for the match to end on a fancy roll up.) Zavala’s slightly more tecnico of the two, but they also both punch each other in the face a lot. Disturbio’s goofy selling works here. Interesting that Zavala tried the same turning tope he’d have problems with a few weeks later. Finish makes no sense where they were going; maybe they liked Disturbio better than we figured

Match 4: Guerrero Maya Jr. vs Esfinge in a En Busca de un Idolo match

corner tope con giro

Review: [good] This felt like the match for Guerrero Maya to work rudo, as if the Esfinge mask was somehow obscuring Black Terry, but instead they followed the lead of the other match and worked tecnico/tecnico. That probably hurt Esfinge more, because he doesn’t have the neat moves Maya has (and Maya pulled out ones he doesn’t usually do) and really ought to stick with his main ones since they’re still very new to most people. It turned out not really to matter how either guy looked, given the decision was going to end Esfinge’s run and Maya was locked in. This one again seems better out of context; it wasn’t an epic match, but it was good for a weekly TV match.

so that’s what the door is for

Review: [ok] I rewatched the ClaroSports.com version I taped, which is near unwatchable at times. No idea what the Azteca version cut out, but it’s surely the better VQ. Almost two different matches at once: the usual Super Porky comedy match would be interrupted by about 90 seconds of Volador and Mistico going crazy with high spots and dives, and the Super Porky would come back for the finish. The same sequence happened in the first two falls, and they teased it happening for a third fall. Volador & Mistico (bringing back the SSP) were working hard for what was a comedy match more half the time. It made you wish they didn’t have a partner who fell down running, because it could’ve been a special match.

Match 6: Atlantis, Máximo, Valiente vs La Máscara, La Sombra, Rush
Arena México, 08/14/2015
Video: luchablogdosthecubsfan

  1. tecnicos
    • DQ Ingobernables [ripped up Atlantis’ mask] (2:33)
  2. Ingobernables
    • La Sombra double knee smash Atlantis (3:31)
  3. Ingobernables
    • La Sombra foul kick Atlantis (3:06)

Winner: Ingobernables
Match Time: 9:10
Notes: Ingobernables jump the tecnicos. Rush distracted Tirantes on the finish.

Review: [OK] This was a good intense build into the feud though the match was not a lot in itself. The crowd got bought into Atlantis/Sombra even though it might feel like it came out of nowhere for the rest of us. Sombra sure seems to win a lot of the matches in the build up.
