CMLL Lucha Azteca: 2015-08-08

an invisible hook grabbed Zeuxis!

Recapped: 08/16/2015

What happened that mattered? Thunder & Ultimo Guerrero continued to feud. The scheduled Volador/Rush match doesn’t happen, with Volador defeating Mascara cleanly.

Should I go back and watch anything? Nah. The women’s match was fixed a little in editing but still not good. There are better Volador matches, and there’s probably more Thunder/UG matches coming.

Where can I see it? The Azteca version is on my channel. There’s also live videos for some of the matches. Links below.

(If you click read more, there’s more. It’s a bit hidden on this theme, but that’s how all the recaps work.)

Dr. Wagner Jr. off next week’s Anniversary show (¯\_(ツ)_/¯)

Enrique Yniesta, guy who knows things, says Dr. Wagner is no longer part of the 09/18 CMLL Anniversary show. Marco Corleone will now take his place in the semifinal, teaming with Rush & Thunder versus Ultimo Guerrero, Volador and Shocker.

He repeated the report on Periscope.

Yniesta did not know if Wagner will wrestle tonight, as currently scheduled. CMLL has said nothing about any change and no one else is reporting this so far. (It might be notable CMLL did not send out the usual preview for the show today; last minute lineup changes are usually snuck in those.)

It’s unknown what happened. Wagner and LA Park are close, so it’s conceivable Wagner followed Park out the door. It’s also conceivable Wagner himself did something to get kicked off the promotion. (Update: Alfredo reminds me Wagner did work that show with AAA wrestlers this week. That could conceivable be it too. It could be anything or nothing at all.) Pretty much anything is conceivable with the rapidly deteriorating Anniversary show lineup at this point.

UPDATE: Apolo Valdez confirmed the report and says Dr. Wagner is off today’s show too. What in the world. Presumably, that means he’s also done with CMLL for the time being.

UPDATE 2: it looks like CMLL sent out a press release announcing the change, but just hasn’t put own it’s own site. SuperLuchas has the text.

UPDATE 3: The official story is Dr. Wagner Jr. called CMLL and said he didn’t feel like working for CMLL anymore, without giving a reason. Dr. Wagner hasn’t given a reason elsewhere yet. This doesn’t make a lot of sense; Wagner was going to make some nice money for just two more matches of work, and being on the Anniversary show would’ve made it easier for him to get more work. Instead, the impression he gives is he’s willing to walk out on one of the business promotions in the country (so why wouldn’t he pull something on you, independent promoter.)

It’s possible this is some move in loyalty to LA Park, though it seemed like LA Park thought Wagner got fired like him judging from his twitter posts. LA Park and Dr. Wagner are close, but Dr. Wagner’s best friends are the microphone and the camera, so I’m sure we’ll be hearing more about this soon.

CMLL preview, iPPV notes

CMLL’s big draw tonight was supposed to be the one time Arena Mexico team up of La Familia Real, the Parka/Volador trio of Volador, Super Parka and LA Park. Unfortuantly, LA Park got himself fired before that match was even announced (though it was still announced anyway) and so today’s show is a kind of pointless event.

The new main event is Atlantis, Euforia, Ultimo Guerrero versus La Sombra, Rey Escorpion and Thunder in a relevos incredibles that’s not totally incredible. Sombra’s a rudo teaming with rudos, and Atlantis is reuniting his old team with Ultimo Guerrero. This is Thunder’s first Arena Mexico match in a month, though he was advertised as wrestling for a couple weeks and didn’t with no particular explanation. He returned to the ring last Sunday in Guadalajara and it seems like the mask/hair match match with Ultimo Guerrero is still happening down the road (be it October, Decemeber, or Dos Leyendas.) No LA Park means Super Parka & Volador team with Valiente instead to take on Marco Corleone, Dr. Wagner Jr. and Rush. CMLL’s slightly teased Wagner/Volador feuding in the past, and it might come back up with no LA Park & Rush to do their thing.

The undercard includes some interesting matches, and a lot of people who aren’t back on the card next week. Shockercito & Demus, who are feuding on and off, are back against each other in the minis match.

The show will stream on ClaroSports at www.clarosports.com/en-vivo/. You do not need a VPN or to use a Hola plugin to watch. The stream is supposed to start at 8:30pm CT, but it often doesn’t work at the start. Next week’s show is the iPPV (more on that in a sec), and it’s unclear if the Friday night shows will be streamed after that.

Atlantis is doing a lot of interviews saying generic things. That’s his move. Atlantis has said in previous years that he would retire if he lost his mask. He hasn’t said that this year, but no one’s asked him directly in anything I’ve read. Atlantis is wrestling on a random show in Tabasco with five people you’ve never heard of one day before the mask match. That would happen in no other major promotion in the world. (It probably wouldn’t need to happen in most other major promotion.)

CMLL sent out a press release advertising the iPPV. They say “vivo” 3 times, they mention on demand viewing zero times. They may actually be doing on demand viewing and not know to advertise it, because this is their first time and they don’t appear to be consumers of the service they’re selling. However, if you know you’re not going to be able to watch the show live, I’d strongly advise you to wait until after the show to buy it just to be sure VOD is an option at that point.

The press release does specifically say the show is available in Mexico. Some people inside CMLL were under the impression it would not be available in Mexico. Usual CMLL communication.

09/10 AAA TV Results (Cancún)

AAA TV (THU) 09/10/2015 Plaza de Toros, Cancún, Quintana Roo[@luchalibreaaa, Deporte Por Dentro, Quequi]
Attendance: 5500

4) Brian Cage, El Mesías, Hijo de Pirata Morgan b Drago, Fénix, La Parka
Mesias snuck in a foul on Parka. Brian Cage appeared to be bald.
5) Angélico, Jack Evans, Rey Mysterio Jr. b Joe Lider, Myzteziz, Pentagón Jr.
Jack beat Lider with a 630, and Angelico & Jack demanded a tag title match.

AAA’s recap is not up yet, but there might not be more notes on this short of show. Quequi said it was a sell out and pictures indicate the same. (Capacity is listed as 5,000 or 5,500 depending on where you look, going with the higher number because there are seats on the floor.) Maybe the bullring will be a usual stop before the Hard Rock Hotel, because that’s a pretty good turnout and it means more days on vacation for everyone.

Cage’s hair was growing back at BOLA, so he would’ve had to reshave his head to be bald at this point. That’s super professional. (Picture was fuzzy, so I may just be missing the hair.)

Earlier in the day, Faby Apache, Drago, Argenis visited a children’s hospital, Pentagon Jr., Taya and Fenix had an autograph signing and Rey Mysterio visited a mural of Rey Mysterio.

Local media outlet Queuqi has been writing short pieces about AAA luchadors, seemingly writing about their gimmicks. Pentagon’s learned banned martial arts moves from Indonesia, Malaysia, and China, Fenix is a scholar of ancient civilizations and got the name from a trip to Egypt and Psycho Clown got his idea for character from when he was five and saw a family member was gunned down by assailants wearing clown masks who were never captured, so he decided to use the same sort of mask to defend the innocent when the law is unable. WHAT.

(This is probably not canon or true, but someone a bit bored.)

Next show is Sunday at the Hard Rock Hotel with the same basic group of guys.

What happened that mattered? Nothing.

Should I go back and watch anything? The opener was a good minis match. The Sky Team was alright in the main event, but there are better versions of that match. That’s the same with most everything else.

Where can I see it? It’s on my main youtube channel. Links below.
