CMLL Lucha Azteca: 2015-08-01

Escorpion breaks UG’s nose

Recapped: 08/06/2015. Rey Escorpion and Ultimo Guerrero hit each other very hard.

Match 1: Atlantis ©, Diamante Azul, Volador Jr. vs La Sombra ©, Marco Corleone, Rush
Arena México, 07/17/2015

Sombra launched
  1. técnicos
    • Volador Spiral #2 on La Sombra (1:16)
  2. Ingobernables
    • Rush corner dropkick Diamante Azul (6:30)
    • La Sombra double knee smash Atlantis (6:40)
  3. Ingobernables
    • Atlantis pin Marco (3:31)
    • Sombra foul kick Volador Jr. (4:33)

Winner: Ingobernables (2-1)
Match Time: 12:29
Notes: Rush pulled at Diamante Azul’s mask off in the third fall, when simply trying to rip it. He distracts referee Babe Richard from noticing, and Azul gets it back on. Ingobernables rip up Atlantis’ mask as well. The Ingobernables line up the tecnicos for Marco’s Aero tialiano, but Volador breaks it up and the técnicos start a comeback. Atlantis suort od ducks a Marco Aero Italia and pins him, but is immediately fouled by Rush. Volador has Rush pinned after a backcracker, but Marco pulls the ref out, Sombra trips up Volador and Rush drops him with the Rush Driver. Azul makes the save, only for Sombra to take him out and dropkick him into a Rush German suplex. Sombra fouls Volador and gets the pin when the referee returns.

superkick counters everything

Review: [great live, good on TV] this lost something on the rewatch. Maybe the crowd audio didn’t come thru as well, or maybe the crowd video didn’t too well – way too many crowd shots after every move for a while. It was still a great crazy brawl thru the first fall and parts of the third, but it seemed to slow down more here. Diamante Azul works well for this feud at times, but looks lost and slow at other times. Sombra was a great heel to Volador, and maybe it’s what happened after that makes me think they played it down in this edit. There were some good surprise moments with the finishes and it didn’t feel routine at all

Rush outsuplexes Diamante Azul
Sombra still can’t stop this
Diamante Azul has a cheap mask
Volador Jr. takes out everyone

Match 2: Último Guerrero vs Rey Escorpión for the hair
Arena México, 07/17/2015

brawl off the bat
  1. Rey Escorpion powerbomb (3:07)
  2. Ultimo Guerrero Pulpo Guerrero (3:18)
  3. Ultimo Guerrero Special (9:12)

Winner: Ultimo Guerrero (2-1)
Match Time: 15:37
Notes: Escorpion enters second, but immediately starts brawling with Ultimo Guerrero. Tirantes attempts to break it up, but mostly just pulls down UG so Escorpion can get in free shots. They start boxing about a minute in, and Escoprion’s first punch may have broken UG’s nose. He’s bleeding the rest of the match.

Escorpion tries to fight free of the hair cut at the end of the match, but he’s held by Bestia Negra and Edgar for the clippers.

UG flies

Review: [great] As good as could be expected from an Ultimo Guerrero blow off. Rey Escorpion dragging him into a brawl for a fall and a half was good brutal fun, and then it turned into the usual Ultimo Guerrero checklist at the end. (They left all his moves in, but the video package at the end indicated they took out some of Escorpion’s.) The match was very solid and had highlights, but it was the crowd and the emotion which carried the match. This crowd was 99% for Ultimo Guerrero, but the accidental (???) busted nose just gained more sympathy, and all the shots of Ultimo’s family set this up well as a bit of revenge for the Guerreros family being left in tears last year. Ultimo Guerrero’s barricade springboard was crazy, and not something the high flyers here have tried. (They may get in more trouble for jumping into the crowd.) Guerrero took the package piledriver big time, as did Rey Escorpion on the Guerrero Special finish. Tirantes slowing down his count in the third fall is getting annoying.

and now he’s springboarding

  1. Loved these two matches. Diamante Azul is more watchable versus Los Ingobernables. I feel like Rush and crew can look unstoppable at times, so you need someone who can go toe to toe with them (I mean D.A.’s size, not wrestling ability).
That brawl on the ramp was great.
