CMLL Puebla: 2015-07-27

Valiente is too much

Euforia/Maximo over achieves in the third fall.

Recapped: 07/27/15-08/18/2015

Match 1: Asturiano ©, Paris, Zaeta Roja vs Canelo Casas, Fuerza Chicana, Policeman ©
Arena Puebla, 07/27/2015

  1. técnicos
    • Asturiano half crab Fuerza Chicana (5:31)
    • Paris inside cradle Policeman (5:38)
  2. rudos
    • Policeman plancha roll thru Zaeta Roja Jr. (1:15)
    • Canelo Casas top rope splash (1:41)
  3. rudos
    • Policeman kneeling Aniabalina Asturiano (4:43)

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 11:29

Review: [below average] felt like a boring training match, with novatos Zaeta & Paris getting most of the ring time to work against the more experienced vets and Asturiano barely involved. Rudos were not that interesting, and the técnicos never getting a comeback in the third fall made it worse (and I’m not sure I understood why that happened.) There was so little that happened, I had no idea what to GIF. Canelo being the twelfth guy to use a splash as a finish is still better than Canelo’s normal finish.

cradle probably on purpose?

Match 2: Estrellita ©, Lluvia, Marcela vs Amapola ©, La Comandante, La Seductora
Arena Puebla, 07/27/2015

  1. técnicas
    • Marcela tapatía Seductora (5:50)
    • Lluvia casadora cradle Comandante (6:35)
  2. rudas
    • Comandante giant swing Estrellita (2:54)
  3. rudas
    • Amapola cradle with ropes Marcela (2:15)

Winner: rudas (2-1)
Match Time: 11:44
Notes: Referee is Tirantes

Review: [ok] basic women’s match with nothing bad but nothing really memorable. I didn’t know what to GIF from this one either. Amapola even cheated to win in a generic way. Lluvia seems hesitant and not confident but nothing really went wrong.

Amapola takes advantage of usual CMLL referee incompetence

Match 3: Lestat, Stigma, Stuka Jr. © vs Espíritu Maligno, King Jaguar, Sangre Azteca ©
Arena Puebla, 07/27/2015

Sangre Azteca enjoys the cheap shot
  1. rudos
    • Espiritu casadora cradle Stuka Jr. (2:22)
  2. técnicos
    • King Jaguar side bodyscissors cradle Lestat (4:47)
    • Stigma bodyscissors cradle King Jaguar (4:59)
    • Stigma inside cradle with trunks (5:20)
  3. técnicos
    • Stuka torpedo splash Sangre Azteca (4:39)

Winner: técnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 12:21
Notes: King Jaguar rushed Lestat and beat him up early to start the match, with stuka dn Stigma just sort of watching until they were attacked.

King Jaguar tries to climb to an escape

Review: [good] maybe overrrated because it was so much better than the previous two matches. There was a lot better energy in this, brought up mostly from King Jaguar trying to destroy Lestat (or run away when he was in danger.) King Jaguar as the aggitated loser was much better than Lestat as the actual winner. Second fall finishes being all Stigma was weird, but it’s been a while since there’s been some weirdness with Stigma in Puebla. Stuka & Sangre didn’t give a lot of effort, but it worked out OK.

Lestat launches into a tope con giro
King Jaguar tosses him into the tope con giro
Brillo Dorado escapes

Match 4: Ángel de Oro, Titán, Valiente vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Hechicero, Pólvora

Triple, er, double tope
  1. rudos
    • Dragon Rojo dropkick Titan (7:32)
    • Hechicero conjuro Valiente (7:45)
  2. tecnicos
    • DQ rudos too long in the ring (2:00)
  3. rudos
    • Valiente leg trap seated armbar Dragon Rojo (6:16)
    • Polvora counter dropkick Valiente (6:55)
    • Super Polvora Driver on Angel de Oro (8:19)

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 18:04
Notes: Referee is Tirantes.

Review: [OK] fair enough build up for tomorrow’s Angel de Oro/Povlora match. It’d be intersted ot know if they could actually sell people on a Tuesday match from a Monday YouTube broadcast )only 300 at most are watching this show, so seems doubeful – and definitely not happening with Angel de Oro & Polvora.) There was some excitement with Valiente, Hechicero and Titan but nothing specoal. Hechicero worked well with Dragon Rojo, because he works well with everyone.

Titan takes out Hechicero

Match 5: La Máscara, La Sombra, Último Guerrero vs Negro Casas, Rey Escorpión, Volador Jr. in a relevos increíbles match
Arena Puebla, 07/27/2015

  1. Team Guerrero
    • Ultimo Guerrero senton de la muerte Negro Casas (3:48)
    • Ultimo Guerrero Pulpo Guerrero Rey Escorpión (4:02)
  2. Team Escorpión
    • Negro Casas half crab armbar La Mascara (2:21)
    • Rey Escorpión powerbomb Ultimo Guerrero (2:30)
  3. Team Escorpion
    • DQ Sombra [failed mask toss] (6:39)
Negro Casas and Zacarias

Winner: Team Escorpion
Match Time: 13:11

Review: [good] exciting and fun match with Volador and Negro Casas being super tecnicos, Sombra playing his usual rival role to Volador, and Ultimo Guerrero back as a rudo for the first time in a while. Whatever’s going on with Sombra didn’t seem to bug hi here, he and Volador were locked in as enemies. Ultimo Guerrero seemed to work as much with Casas as Escorpión, and the rudo UG/tecnico Casas stuff was very good. This was a very good match for long stretches, and one the crowd was into. Rematch next week should be fun.

UG is a cheater

Match 6: Máximo © vs Euforia for the CMLL World Heavyweight Championship
Arena Puebla, 07/27/2015

  1. Euforica Special (3:17)
  2. Maximo huracanrana (2:15)
  3. Maximo top rope headscissors (14:19)

Winner: Maximo (2-1)
Match Time: 19:51

Euforica Special
walk the rope plancha

Review: [good] not much of a match for two falls, and really didn’t even get going until a few dives into the third fall. Euforia is a skilled wrestler, but needs to be with or against a more charismatic opponent. Maximo was that opponent once they finally got deep into the third fall. There was no real point where the fans thought Euforia was going to win, and the third fall was smartly all around Maximo doing big (Volador-like) things to almost win. Maximo’s pushed himself hard in this title run, still being Maximo but adding more to his title matches and it made the difference for this match. This overachieved.
