Angel de Oro moonsault to nowhere

I watch a lot of stuff in hopes of random really good trios matches. This had one of those!

Recapped: 07/26/2015

Match 1: Angelito & Fantasy vs Pequeño Olímpico & Pequeño Universo 2000
Arena México, 07/21/2015

  1. rudos
    • Pequeño Olímpico Michinoku Driver Angelito (3:50)
    • Pequeño Universo dropkick Fantasy (4:28)
  2. técnicos
    • Angelito frog splash Mini Olímpico (3:32)
    • Fantasy crucifix cradle Pequeño Universo (3:45)
  3. técnicos
    • Fantasy guillotine moonsault Pequeño Universo (3:34)
    • Angelito reverse figure four Pequeño Olímpico (3:48)

Match Time: 12:01

double team finish

Review: [below average] disposable minis match. Angelito was alright. Pequeño Olímpico seemed to enjoy turnbuckle smashing him. Fantasy looked like he was hurt, or just generally struggling with the more acrobatic spots. Pequeño Universo has added “flagrantly telegraphing spots” to his repertoire.

Universo with a superbly blatant assist

Match 2: Delta ©, Leono, Pegasso vs Canelo Casas, Metálico, Okumura ©
Arena México, 07/21/2015

Metalico
  1. rudos
    • Canelo Casas top rope splash Pegasso (8:52)
    • Metálico nudo Leono (9:18)
  2. técnicos
    • Delta casita Okumura (3:59)
  3. técnicos
    • Pegasso headscissors small package Cnaelo Casas (3:16)
    • DQ Metálico [low blow mule kick to Leono] (4:45)

Winner: técnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 18:02
Notes: Delta is replacing Starman – a late enough replacement that they actually start playing Starman’s video instead of subbing it to Delta. Metálico lip syncs his way to the ring with a light up tie. Ref is Tirantes

Review: [ok] The kind of midcard match that I would forgot the next day if not for the aborted Metálico/Leono hair match. You could tell they were building to something with those two because they kept going back to it, even after the match, but there was no sign it was happening seven days later. Metálico seemed like he was constantly in for his team in the first two falls, which was probably for the best. There was an amazing 30 seconds where Canelo’s brain went totally blank and he forgot every single spot he was supposed to do with Delta. Crowd cheered anyway; this was an easy crowd.

Stellar Moments

  • El Castigo: Misterioso Jr. Gori Special on Angel de Oro
  • El Lance: Stuka torpedo splash on Pierroth
  • Lo Doloroso: Zeuxis double knee smash on Princesa Sugehit
  • La Llave: Zeuxis with a seated stretch muffler on Princeas Sugehit
  • Lo Alevoso: Dalys uses the ropes to beat Dark Angel

Match 3: Marco Corleone ©, Stuka Jr., Valiente vs Kamaitachi ©, Puma, Tiger
Arena México, 07/21/2015

Tiger stops the punch flurry!
  1. rudos
    • Tiger superkick Marco Corleone (4:54)
  2. técnicos
    • Stuka torpedo splash Kamaiatchi (2:36)
  3. técnicos
    • Aero Italia on Puma & Tiger (4:06)

Winner: técnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 11:36

Review: [great] so much fun. Puma, Tiger and Kamaitachi are the greatest trio that barely ever teams up, and they played off Marco and each other great. (Stuka & Valiente were somewhat relegated to special guest diving stars in this one) Marco had really good match, and these rudos are great at stooging for his punches and his comedy bits. The superkick finish in the first worked well, but all the finishes worked well. Kamaitachi proved he’s really good even without Dragon Lee, and showed great charisma and timing. Puma and Tiger are so so good. Crowd really loved this match.

Marco leaping clothesline
Kamaitachi really is the best
Stuka fake out tope

Match 4: Ángel de Oro, Místico ©, Volador Jr. vs Ephesto, Pólvora, Terrible ©
Arena México, 07/21/2015

  1. rudos
    • Pólvora sit down powerbomb Místico (0:38)
  2. rudos
    • Pólvora Super Polover Driver Volador (5:00)
    • Pólvora sit down powerbomb Angel de Oro (5:38)

Winner: rudos (2-0)
Match Time: 6:16
Notes: La Comandante is back from Japan and seconding Terrible. Pólvora and Angel de Oro face off before the match but manage not to wait until the whistle blows before starting to fight. Pólvora demanded Angel de Oro accept his challenge for a title match. Angel de Oro asked the fans if they wanted to see it. Pólvora attacked him, but Angel de Oro got free to point out the crowd said No, but he was saying Yes because the title are meant to be accepted. Angle de Oro then ran away from Pólvora and Terrible (the only other guy to stick around).

Review: [ok] This was OK as a match but pretty good as far as setting up next week. Two fall wins are rare, two fall wins clean are extraordinary rare, and wins where Polovra pins Místico, Volador, and Angel de Oro in turn are one of a kind. It’s as good a build as they can do for the random one off title matches – they thought this thru more than usual (even protecting Volador a little bit with some Comandante interference.) The match may still be kind of boring, but they did a good job setting it up. Ephesto and Terrible did a better job of setting up Polovra than catching Angel de Oro’s moonsault. Volador waving Místico over to the apron and blatantly setting up the boost headscissors a half minute before it happen is amusing. Rudos were too busy with Angel de Oro, I guess.
