Sombra/Atlantis, En Busca de un Idolo final, Anniversary tickets

CMLL’s show tonight has Sombra and Atlantis on top, which they’ll be doing a lot for the next month. It’s a straight rematch of last week’s main event, with Atlantis, Valiente and Maximo versus los Ingobernables. This’ll be the first match since the Anniversary show was announced and it’ll be worth watching to see

The biggest match tonight is the Guerrero Maya Jr. versus Boby Zavala En Busca de un Idolo final. Zavala has won the two previous meetings between them during the tournament. A sweep has been done before: Vangellys won all three matches over Valiente in winning this tournament two years ago. This one is a total coin toss.

The winner of this tournament gets a higher position on the card, gets a title shot, probably gets on the Anniversary show, and gets onto the FantasticaMania tour next year. (The loser might go as well – for the first two years, the final four in En Busca de un Idolo all were used on the tour the following year.)

The entire show will air on clarosports.com. Last week, they were restricting the video to only Mexico at the start of the show. HolaVPN worked well to get around that restriction. I’m not sure if I’m recording the show; I had other plans and I’m not sure I want to change them to watch another Robin match.

If you do watch the show, the other thing to look for is any sign of another apuesta match for the Anniversary show. There’s been ones on previous years: Cavernario/Cometa last year, Averno/Panther in 2013, and Puma/Cometa in 2012. There was a tease of a Shockercito/Demus feud last week, though that’s not as big names as those other promotions.

CMLL Anniversary tickets went on sale yesterday. The prices are the same as last year (3274 Mexican Pesos with Ticketmaster fees), though a lot cheaper in US dollars ($195). Even Atlantis didn’t think he was going to be in another Anniversary main event. Sombra was also surprised it happened so fast.

CaraLucha added Fly Star, Magnifico II and Rayo Star versus Wasson, Magnifico I, and Sky Man to it’s 08/30 show. That’s partners against partners (and it appears Toxin Boy and Fly Star may no longer be partners.)

SuperLuchas looks back at Espectro II’s passing in 1982 and an all title match show on August 20th, 1968. I started looking thru the Informador archives to find/confirm when Ray Mendoza beat Alfonso Dantes for the national middleweight title in Guadalajara as we had listed in the wiki. I went thru 1968 and others years for a couple weeks and could not find it – because it was actually in Mexico City on that day, as this recap notes.
