Ingobernables versus Atlantis, En Busca de un Idolo

Today’s CMLL main event has the original three Ingobernables back together as a trio in Arena Mexico for the first time since Dos Leyendas. That’s a long time! (Naito & Marco have gotten involved.) They face Valiente, Maximo and Atlantis in what should continue the Atlantis/Sombra tease from last week. Few people seemed to understand and/or care about the Sombra/Atlantis feud last year, but perhaps another week will help.

There’s been talk for weeks about the Ingobernables – mostly Sombra & Rush – showing up in Japan this week to help Naito as part of the NJPW G1 final shows. Sombra, Rush and La Mascara are booked in Arena Lopez Mateos on Saturday, which would make it impossible to get to Tokyo in time for the G1 final. CMLL isn’t past having an entire main event not show up, especially with that particular venue, and Arena Neza is advertising Rush tonight while it seems impossible he’ll be able to make the show. Still, it seems unlikely Los Ingobernables would’ve been booked in Mexico in the first place if there was a plan for them to be going to Japan.

The real big match on tonight’s show is the final second round portion of En Busca de un Idolo. It’s tecnico versus tecnico and rudo versus rudo, Esfinge versus Guerrero Maya Jr. and Boby Zavala versus Disturbio in the final match before the final. TKD has the totals

The standings give Disturbio a win which should’ve actually gone to Zavala. Zavala and Maya’s big points for finishing first and second in the fan poll give them a lead again. Maya would be in third without the fan poll, and Esfinge would be in second.

Esfinge seems a pretty good bet to win tonight, since he needs to do so to stay alive. Howerver, he’s finished last in the poll both weeks so far and he’s not going to advance unless that suddenly changes in the last week. Maya doesn’t actually need a win, but one might clinch it for him early.

Disturbio’s situation isn’t quite as dire as Esfinge’s, but it’s not great either. He’s 13 points behind the cut line right now, and Zavala has outscored him by an average of 23 points in the fan poll in both weeks. Disturbio could accumulate a big lead over Zavala tonight with a win and good judging score and still be an underdog to advance.

Those fan polls do have a way of changing in the last week. They’ll also be largely irrelevant if Zavala & Maya both win tonight; it’d be possible for the final to be set tonight if results and judging go just right.

Tonight is the first night the entire Friday night show will stream live on ClaroSports.com. It’s a little extra visibility for the promotion going into the Anniversario show, though there’s nothing on their website which would let you know something is airing. No article, no advertisement. (Very strange.) ClaroSports has been doing live soccer broadcasts over the internet, so this shouldn’t be a tech issue. Still, while I hope this goes great, and the undercard looks fun tonight, I wouldn’t suggest you build your night around expecting to see this.

An AAA show at the fair in Durango drew about 2,300. (That was probably this show.)
