Hijos del Infiernos win the trios titles, Casas out with injury, Naito to return

CMLL (SUN) 08/09/2015 Arena México [CMLL]
1) Hijo del Signo & Metálico b Hombre Bala Jr. & Súper Halcón Jr.
2) Blue Panther Jr., Rey Cometa, Stuka Jr. DQ Kamaitachi, Puma, Tiger
Kamaitachi pulled Stuka’s mask for the DQ.
3) Aéreo b Pequeño Violencia [hair]
Aereo won in a surprisingly quick match.
4) Ángel de Oro, Marco Corleone, Super Porky b Kráneo, Pierroth, Ripper
5) Ephesto, Luciferno, Mephisto b Atlantis, Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr. © [MEX TRIOS]
Mephisto beat Atlantis clean to win the trios titles. Reyes del Atlantida fall on their 2nd defense. Hijos del Infierno are the 39th known champions. Mephisto’s 2nd reign, Safari/Ephesto’s 3rd reign, and Luciferno’s first reign.
6) Mistico, Valiente, Volador Jr. b Rey Bucanero, Rey Escorpión, Terrible
Rey Bucanero replaced Shocker on Tuesday. Mistica on Rey Escorpion.

I’m surprised they did the title change after all. That reduces the champions to 14. Maybe that no longer matters? Maybe they haven’t done the math and are going to fix that some other way? It does suggest the Reyes winning the titles were less about them and more about getting the titles off Peste Negra (and Mr. Niebla ASAP.)

Not sure what exactly happened with the hair match but it sounds like it either something went wrong or they weren’t into doing much.

CMLL (MON) 08/10/2015 Arena Puebla [@therealfredo, CMLL, Periodico Enfoque]
1) Rey Apocalipsis & Toro Bill Jr. b Black Tiger & Rey Samuray
Battilon de la Muerte took 2/3.
2) Okumura, Puma, Tiger b Lestat, Stigma, Tritón
Lestat replaced Starman. Rudos took 2/3.
3) Kráneo, Olímpico, Ripper b Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr., Titán
Invasors took 2/3 in a good match.
4) Ángel de Oro © b Pólvora [CMLL LH]
Angel de Oro took falls 1/3 for his 5th defense. Rematch from 13 days ago in Arena Mexico; this was a good but lesser version of that.
5) Felino, Mephisto, Terrible b Atlantis, Mistico, Rush
Terrible and Felino replaced Mr. Niebla (suspension?) and Casas (injury). Tecnicos took 2/3 in a quick match, with Atlantis submitting Mephisto and challenged for a LH title match.
6) Último Guerrero b Rey Escorpión
UG took 1/3, in a similar but not as good match as their hair match

This show is still up on YouTube. I half watched it while working on other stuff. It was a fine enough show, but nothing must see. Both the rematches from Arena Mexico were lesser versions of those matches. The crowd wasn’t into Ultimo Guerrero as much as in Arena Mexico too, and that really helped the hair match. (They might have just been tired; this was a long show even with a short semimain.)

Periodico Enfoque says Rey Escorpion knocked down one of the photographers during the main event. I didn’t pick this up at all watching on YouTube (but was largely distracted during the show; no one else mentioned it as far as I saw.) They note security didn’t get involved in any way. Escorpion & CMLL photographer Alexis Sanchez have had issues in the recent past as well.

No Saturday show (boxing).

The full Friday night Arena Mexico show will air on ClaroSports. I did not see it, but I was told last Friday’s show aired in full on CMLL.com; perhaps that was a test run.

Tonight’s CMLL show has the Guerreros and Revolucionarios against each other one again.  Pegasso versus Virus is the lightning match, which should be on YouTube after the show. Notable, the Metalico/Leono issue appears to be dropped; they’re off the card tonight.

Negro Casas is out of action for a few weeks with a torn bicep and pectoral. CMLL says he suffered the injury on Friday night (and it’s notable they addressed the situation, unlike the recent issues with Sombra, Rush, Niebla and Shocker.) I don’t remember seeing anything in particular with him, but he was one of those who disappeared very quickly after the match. This is Casas’ second significant injury of the year, after suffering a concussion earlier this year. Casas has defied aging, but even his super powers are going to run out at some point.

This caused some card shuffling. Friday’s main event is now Ingoberanbles (Rush, Sombra, Mascara) versus Atlantis, Maximo and Volador, which might again tease a Sombra/Atlantis issue.  Rush was previously listed as main eventing in Arena Neza, not sure what will happen there.

It was mentioned on this morning’s NJPW show that Naito would be coming back to CMLL in September. I had guessed he would not. That has to tie in with the Anniversary show some how (and maybe it was a late enough decision to change the date? Or just a coincidence?)

Zeuxis told the press that she and Dalys are a Caribbean tag team. Who knew? Does it really matter to be a 2 person tag team in a division with no 2v2 matches? Zeuxis has the same belt with sash hanging off that Ivelisse was wearing on Lucha Underground; I kind of want to believe that’s a Puerto Rician style thing.

Cavernario has no problem with the Ingobernables, but feels Volador, Atlantis and Negro Casas are as good or better.

Interviews with CMLL’s three officials ring announcers.

Lineup

CMLL (TUE) 08/11/2015 Arena México
1) Acero & Angelito vs Pequeño Olímpico & Pierrothito
2) Molotov, Oro Jr., Robin vs Arkángel de la Muerte, Hijo del Signo, Sangre Azteca
3) La Vaquerita, Marcela, Princesa Sugehit vs Amapola, Dalys, Zeuxis
4) Pegasso vs Virus [lightning]
5) Dragon Lee, Rey Cometa, Valiente vs Ephesto, Hechicero, Luciferno
6) Dragón Rojo Jr., Rey Escorpión, Thunder vs Euforia, Niebla Roja, Último Guerrero

Posted before, but changed enough to be posted again. Will Thunder actually wrestle this week? Will we be sad if he does?

CMLL (SAT) 08/15/2015 Arena Coliseo
1) Último Dragoncito vs Pequeño Olímpico
2) Molotov vs Hijo del Signo
3) Oro Jr. vs Nitro
4) Stigma vs Canelo Casas
5) Tritón & Valiente vs Rey Bucanero & Terrible
6) Zeuxis © vs Silueta [MEX WOMEN]
first defense
7) Máximo, Mistico, Rey Cometa vs Ephesto, Luciferno, Mephisto

Zeuxis hasn’t defended the belt partly because of the injury, and partly because CMLL. She’s defending against her forever rival here. They had teased the title match two weeks ago and get to do it after a break. I’m going to keep saying this every time: the title match should absolutely be the main event on this show. Even more so with women and minis – the positive press CMLL could generate for it would outweigh the bruised egos.

CMLL (SUN) 08/16/2015 Arena México
1) Metatrón & Sensei vs Apocalipsis & Cholo
2) Pegasso, Star Jr., Tritón vs Arkángel de la Muerte, Metálico, Nitro
3) Fantasy vs Pequeño Violencia [lightning]
4) Dark Angel, Estrellita, Silueta vs Amapola, Dalys, Tiffany
5) Dragon Lee, Rey Cometa, Titán vs Cavernario, Felino, Kamaitachi
6) Mistico, Valiente, Volador Jr. vs Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Niebla Roja

Sky Team versus Guerreros in the main event, Violencia coming right back in a lightning match.

Semimain looks like more Dragon Lee/Kamatiachi fun, but Cometa gets his hands on Cavernario too. That match would be great if one of Felino’s sons replaced him.

CMLL (SUN) 08/16/2015 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Rey Halcón & Star Black vs El Chakal & Relampago
2) El Divino, Frezzer, Javier Cruz Jr. vs Black Sugar, Demonio Rojo, El Yaqui
3) Neutrón, Vaquero Jr., Virgo vs Furia Roja, Joker, Sádico
4) Draego, Nautilius, Omar Brunetti vs El Cuatrero, Forastero, Sansón
5) Rayman vs Pepe Aguayo

Rayman and Pepe Aguayo were on opposite sides of the not-CMLL show this past Sunday, set up the rematch on this week’s Sunday show. There’s no real difference, the Sunday is just an partially sanctioned show that uses the local trainees.  (We’re lucky to get the posters on CMLL.com at this point.)

CMLL (MON) 08/17/2015 Arena Puebla
1) Star Jr., Tigre Rojo Jr., Zaeta Roja vs Fuerza Chicana, King Jaguar, Metálico
2) Dark Angel, Estrellita, Lluvia vs Amapola, Dalys, Tiffany
3) Blue Panther Jr., Rey Cometa, The Panther vs Cancerbero, Raziel, Virus
4) La Máscara, Máximo, Super Porky vs Kráneo, Olímpico, Ripper
5) Atlantis, Mistico, Volador Jr. vs Ephesto, Luciferno, Mephisto

Atlantis and Mephisto matched up in the main event again. Third match could be quite good.
