CMLL Guerreros del Ring on 52MX: 2015-07-18

Negro Casas doing a code red

I think this is the last regularly scheduled 52MX recap for the time being. All the matches will air on Puebla first, so there’s no need for these except for the weeks when I miss that show. Until everything changes everything again

Recapped: 07/18/2015

Match 1: Blue Panther Jr., Lestat, The Panther vs Cancerbero, King Jaguar, Raziel
Arena Puebla, 07/06/2015

King Jaguar throws Lestat down
  1. rudos
    • Raziel & Canerbero tapatía/reverse neckbreaker The Panther (6:44)
  2. rudos
    • Cancerbero scorpion Blue Panther Jr. (6:35)
    • King jaguar low blow uppercut Lestat (7:16)

Winner: rudos (2-0)
Match Time: 14:00
Notes: Referee is Pompin.

Lestat throws himself into a tope con giro

Review: [ok] King Jaguar & Lestat are feuding, but it felt like Cancerbero & Raziel did most of the work. The Panthers did very little; Blue Jr.’s contribution to the bout was mostly people running into his feet. Lestat & King Jaguar didn’t show any particular chemistry that would get someone interested in the match; this felt more like when Leono would randomly feud with someone. Blue Panther Jr. wearing the same outfit as his brother in hopes of the fans confusing the two is his best move yet.

The Panther still has a great tope

Match 2: Dragon Lee vs Kamaitachi in a lightning match
Arena Puebla, 07/06/2015

Rush dropkick by Kamaitachi

Winner: Kamaitachi (ramp dropkick)
Match Time: 6:05
Notes: Kamaitachi attacked Dragon Lee before the whistle. Tirantes is champ.

dragon tossing contest

Review: [good] A usual outing, though a little shorter and little more sane. Kamaitachi figured out an incredible counter to Dragon Lee’s hanging double stomp (stop holding yourself up) and Dragon Lee hasn’t figured out how to stop landing on his head from the ramp dropkick, so there was really only one way this could go. Dragon Lee can go long on his tope con giro, and he can also go seemingly straight up and down. (Or maybe he just took off sooner given the space.) Tirantes’ ridiculous counts distracted from this match.

Match 3: Mistico, Valiente, Volador Jr. vs Negro Casas, Euforia, Vangellys
Arena Puebla, 07/06/2015

Mistico gets a little help
  1. técnicos
    • Místico boost huracanrana Euforia (3:17)
    • Valiente splash Vangellys (3:21)
  2. rudos
    • Negro casita Volador (1:35)
    • Vangellys northern lights suplex Valiente (1:40)
  3. técnicos
    • Volador Jr. top rope headscissors Negro Casas (5:52)

Winner: técnicos
Match Time: 10:53
Notes: Referee is Pompin.

Mistico at his best with a boost

Review: [ok] if you like to see Místico tossed in the air for headscissors, this match is for you. Three rushed falls, the first two more than the second, and a bit of the usual Sky Team highlights. Negro Casas does a Code Red, no word if he Never Gives Up. (The Code Red looked better than the swinging DDT, for sure.) Casas took a top rope headscissors too, so he was in some mood. This match featured finishing moves being broken up in turn, I’m going to make a list.

Match 4: Atlantis, Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr. © vs Kráneo, Olímpico, Ripper for the Mexican National Trios Championship
Arena Puebla, 07/06/2015

Delta just shouldn’t have got out of bed this month
  1. Reyes del Atlantida
    • Guerrero Maya top rope splash Ripper (3:45)
    • Delta huracanrana Olímpico (3:49)
  2. Invasors
    • Ripper top rope splash Atlantis (1:56)
  3. Reyes del Atlantida
    • Atlantis huracanrana Kraneo (2:20)

Winner: Reyes del Atlantida (2-1)
Match Time: 8:05
Notes: Reyes retain the titles

triple tope, eventually

Review: [good] I was so disappointed when I realized how late in the hour this match was starting, and then they had a commercial break too. There were some great Reyes del Atlantida/Invasors trios title matches in previous years. This might have been another one if it had aired complete; both teams worked very hard for the time we got and it’s easy to imagine it being even better with five more minutes. (The editing was as random as ever, leaving in blown spots and taking out who knows what.) Olímpico and Ripper were solid, and Kraneo was willing to do anything, including take an improbable huracanrana for the win. There was a little bit separating this from a normal trios match – an extra round of dives, less chicanery from Mije and Olímpico – but I wanted a little more. There were teases of that (the Atlantis/Kraneo mat work at the start was different than usual) and maybe more time would’ve shown more.
