CMLL Anniversary show moved to September 18th

Citing negative feedback from fans on the September 4th date, CMLL announced they were moving their annual biggest show of the year back two weeks. This is the first public move of the Anniversary date, but it appears to be the third time they’ve set a date and changed it internally.

CMLL changing a date due because the fans didn’t like the idea seems implausible. They just don’t operate that way (and no company would move the date based on social media and YouTube feedback – the only places who know the September 4th date beside the few people who went to Tuesday’s show. It has not been announced on TV.) The 18th is more a traditional date for the show, and lines up better with holidays in Mexico, but those things were known before.

Theories

  • Someone in the scheduled main event won’t be ready on September 4th. Rush may still be suspended, Mr. Niebla may be suspended (or fired), and maybe it needs more time to lapse – though most places would just bring them back early if they were that necessary. More likely, it’s a problem with Thunder. He’s missed his matches in the last week with no explaination. He still has turned up at shows and CMLL Informa without an obvious injury, but CMLL would probably want to hide any problem with the indestructible Australian in the build up to a big match
  • CMLL completely forgot some scheduling issue. This is CMLL being totally disroganized, which isn’t a first. Maybe NJPW needs Sombra in late September, Sombra isn’t needed for the Anniversary show but is needed for the Universal tournament, and things have to be swapped around to accomadate. (NJPW’s really the only group they’d make this change for.)
  • Someone near the top of CMLL overruled a decision. You’d think everyone important would be cleared on the Anniversary date, but there seem to be a lot of people involved and some people aren’t always totally involved.
  • CMLL is the dice roll of wrestling promotions, and nothing has to make sense.

My hunch is it’s Thunder. It’s impossible to know for sure, but not wrestling tonight would be a pretty good indication.

  1. Other options

CMLL did not want the awesomeness of a Minis Cage to overshadow the main event. Everyone knows the best way to celebrate an anniversary is to put people in a cage match.

They never actually changed it, Mr. niebla announced.the change while.drunk.

They need a seperate show for the minis anniversary to pull another million dollar gate after last year’s success.
