AAA in Puebla, CMLL in last show before Sin Salida, lucha libre in London

It’s Friday, and the biggest news might actually come from AAA. Dorian Roldan teased an announcement today of a dream match. It’s unclear when or how that announcement will come, but the best bet is part of the TV taping tonight in Puebla. It’s the only remaining announced taping prior to TripleMania, it’s the last TV which will air before TripleMania – if AAA actually has a main event for this year’s event, it’s announced tonight. Given Dorian’s post, that’s exactly what’s going to happen.

My underinformed hunch is AAA’s doing the Myzteziz/Averno apuesta match CMLL never ran. Those two meet follow up their singles match (and Averno’s win) on last week’s taping with a trios match in the semimain tonight. There’s nothing else on the card that immediately suggests dream match. The actual main event is Alberto versus Brian Cage versus El Mesias in an odd three way bull terrier match, which might be the first chain match for Cage & Alberto. Those two also might set up a TripleMania match; this is the last chance to really do all the work on the main matches.

A press conference earlier this week confirmed Goya Kong will be the mystery luchadora in the second match (teaming with Nino Hamburguesa versus Carta Brava & Taya Valkyrie.) The mystery man in the tercera – Daga & Steve Pain versus Argenis and whoever – is still unrevealed. Flamita doesn’t seem to be booked anywhere tonight. Neither does Laredo Kid.

Today’s CMLL show is the final Friday night before Sin Salida. Ultimo Guerrero and Rey Escorpion main event in a trios match prior to their hair match.  Ultimo Guerrero, Gran Guerrero, Volador Jr. will face La Sombra, Rey Escorpion, Thunder in the strange partners main event. CMLL still hasn’t announced any other matches for next week, so it’s possible something else will be derived from that main event, or from the Bufete del Amor versus Peste Negra semimain.

We do know there will be two En Busca de un Idolo matches next week. This week will be round six of the first round, with two same band matches where one luchador’s fate is set and the other is very much in question. Boby Zavala is advancing to the second round, but Canelo Casas needs a win and good marks from the judges. Despite his rep, Canelo has actually been getting both of those up to this point; Canelo would be third in the competition if not for the fan vote. Delta is not going to advance, but his tecnico opponent Flyer just might. He’s been the opposite of Casas, with the worst win/loss record in the competition and by far the worst judging marks, but his recent surge in fan voting looks like it may carry him into the second round. Flyer’s status may be a question mark: he crashed and burned badly on a dive Tuesday, barely was able to continue, and today was pulled off next Tuesday’s show. No one’s yet missed a match due to injury in the four years of the En Busca de un Idolo, though some guys have definitely wrestled thru matches they might otherwise take off. Flyer may simply getting rested on Tuesday or Molotov may be getting a makeup booking, but it’s something to keep an eye on.

Both of the lucha libre tours in London have shows today. The Todo x el Todo show started yesterday – Hijo del Santo has pictures, and the Guardian has posed shots from before the show.. Attendance didn’t look too strong. They’re back today and Sunday. The AAA/Lucha Future one show tour takes place on Saturday, but they’ll be doing a promotional feature today on BBC1.
