Ripper is passing thru

Recapped: 05/16/2015
Video failed for 2/5ths of the show, really wasn’t much of a problem.

Match 1: Bengala & Leono vs Apocalipsis & Inquisidor
Arena México, 05/12/2015

  1. rudos
    • Apocalipsis missile dropkick Leono (5:06)
    • Inquisidor hanging frontcracker (5:46)
  2. técnicos
    • Bengala standing figure four reverse neck lock Apocalipsis (3:02)
    • Leono atomic legdrop Inquisidor (3:41)
  3. rudos
    • Apocalipsis side bow and arrow Bengala (2:36)
    • Inquisidor reverse figure four (3:!0)

Winner: rudos
Match Time: 12:37
Rating: ok

review: [ok] the big news here is Leono is giving and starting to actually do the Hogan gimmick. He doesn’t have it down quite yet – finger wave needs work – but he’s probably going to have 500 more openers to keep on trying it. Couldn’t believe the rudos actually did a missile dropkick off the shoulders in the first fall, could believe Apocalipsis screwed up Bengala’s finish (making it look like it was Bengala’s fault to the crowd.) Wrong team won.

many headscissors

review: [ok] better than the opener, though not among the better minis matches. Too many guys who were just kind of forgettable to be that good. Mercurio & Shockercito did enough spots to keep their feud going, though Shockercito winning clean at the end might have been meant as the end of it.

Match 3: Oro Jr., Pegasso, Stigma vs Boby Zavala, Sangre Azteca, Tiger
Arena México, 05/12/2015

  1. técnicos
    • Stigma huracanrana Tiger (8:53)
  2. rudos
    • Sangre Azteca low blow dropkick Pegasso (3:55)
  3. rudos
    • Sangre Azteca low blow dropkick Oro Jr. (4:10)
    • Tiger sunset flip powerbomb Stigma (5:29)

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 18:17
Rating: ok

super sunset flip powerbomb

review: Regular trios match with extra time. It’s weird to go the drawn out Cadena3 matches after seeing edited down matches on the other CMLL shows. Oro and Sangre got a lot of time in the first fall, which Sangre used to do the same mat wrestling spots he always does. They went smoothly, at least. First fall finish was also very random, with Pegasso taking out partner Oro with a dive but Stigma winning immediately after anyway. The rudos set of dropkicks in the second fall on Oro Jr. was well done, and the rudos were generally good bullies throughout the fall. Oro wasn’t so good on the mini comeback in the second fall or starting the real one in third. He’s gone from being kept out of the En Busca de un Idolo to win a mask instead in 2014 to not even being considered in 2015. Oro feuded a bit with Sangre Azteca, but was beat by him at every turn.

Stellar Moments

El Castigo: Akuma Canadian Destroyer from the apron on Robin

El Lance: Boby Zavala top rope splash Triton

Lo Sensacional: Triton staircase springboard moonsault to the outside

Lo Insolito: Guerrero maya Jr. tope con giro into Luciferno and the third row

La Combinacion: triple tope by Stuka, Gurerero Maya Jr. and Delta

Match 4: Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr., Stuka Jr. vs Ephesto, Hechicero, Vangellys
Arena México, 05/12/2015

  1. rudos
    • Vangelys northern lights suplex (6:08)
    • Hechicero New Move Stuka (6:26)
  2. técnicos
    • DQ [rudos too long in the ring] (2:11)
  3. rudos
    • Ephesto Roll on Guerrero Maya Jr. (4:44)

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 13:21
Rating: ok

review: [ok] First fall had transmission problems, the rest was usual. DQ in the second fall looked completely unplanned, with neither side having any idea the fall was over for a while. Bestia Negra remains poor at his job. It cost the match it’s comeback, with momentum just being reset during the last commercial break and the técnicos never actually won a fall on their own. This is twice in recent weeks where Guerrero Maya’s spinning armdrag has failed, though Vangellys reacted to it much better than the crowd. The rest of the match went well for Maya. Hechicero had big reactions to everything in this match, as if he’s specifically working on improving that area of his game.

reverse monkey flip into kicks

Match 5: Marco Corleone, Máximo, Valiente vs Rey Bucanero, Shocker, Terrible
Arena México, 05/12/2015

  1. técnicos
    • ~5:00
  2. tecnicos
    • DQ Shocker [foul on Maximo] (2:56)

Winner: técnicos (2-1)
Match Time: ~7:56
Rating: unratable, but not good

Shocker turns this straight fall loss into an excuse to challenge Maximo to a hair versus hair match. Máximo actually accepts the challenge. Shocker teases doing it right now, does not.

review: [not rated/video issues] First fall of this completely failed and second fall lasted 3 minutes before a DQ with some obvious stuff going wrong after it. This is probably only escaping below average because it wasn’t possible to see it all – but then I didn’t have to see all of a match I wasn’t going to like, so that’s a win right there.

one way to stop the kiss

Match 5: Angel de Oro  vs Ripper
Arena México, 05/12/2015

Winner: Angel de Oro
Match Time: 9:15
Rating: good
Notes: Angel de Oro doesn’t have any music on the video. His music gets flagged by YouTube all the time on my uploads, wonder if that’s the issue for CMLL as well.

helicopter headscissors
flying Ripper

review: [good] best match on the show by a fair margin, with a motivated Ripper throwing Angel de Oro and himself on, and bringing them both to a better match than would be expected. Angel de Oro strayed from his usual set routine a little bit, but it felt like it happened because Ripper’s attacks and intensity brought him there. Ripper’s missed corner charge dive was particularly memorable. This is one where the time limit definitely affected things; Angel de Oro suddenly realized they had only about 100 seconds left to get in everything after his last dive, and they rapidly went thru their last few spots to make sure they got in before the deadline. It worked out okay, but it was a reminder that this time limit can be an unnecessary obstacle.

Angel thanks he’s staying on this side, then no
