Australian Suicide & Dinastía vs Hijo de Pirata Morgan & Súper Fly: [ok] some good spots, but just missing any sort of flow from the middle on. Suicide’s flying moves were really looking good, including his big miss in the ring. Dinastía fit in fine, though it showed the high difference between him and Super Fly is really not that much. Announcers were into dropping Super Fly’s real name for whatever reason. Super Fly got kicked in the eye by Dinastía on his dive, which caused the doctor to run out to check on him. Why is the doctor not at ringside? I’m sure there is a reason, but it seems like an easy fix.
Fénix vs Hijo del Fantasma: [ok] This was idiotic. As soon as Tirantes refused to count to two, the match was destroyed. There were structural problems with the match before that (they went to the high spots very early and so couldn’t build to anything, it was just a parade of setups to others moves), but the crowd and anyone watching stopped caring about whatever big moves Fenix & Fantasma were going to do and just reacted to Tirantes, which was a dumb move in the end because Tirantes made a three count for the wrong team. There’s no good justification for doing this when that’s the outcome anyway, or just really in general. (AAA’s recap pushed the idea of Fenix having a new finishing move – which I guess was the cradle, but that anyone would be thinking about it as something new or important.) The match went many minutes after Tirantes started cheating, seemingly just so they could get in all the Tirantes spots, except the crowd was really deflated after the first one. It was terrible. Match is ok for the guys efforts despite what they were given to work around.
El Patrón Alberto, Murder Clown, Myzteziz vs El Mesías, Pentagón Jr., Texano Jr. [ok] standard AAA main event – rudos jump the técnicos and beat them down for several minutes, técnicos make the comeback to clear the ring, técnicos do relays where they get everything in in, and a finish. This match died for me as soon as Tirantes stepped out there and I didn’t have the patience to watch it as a follow up – it may be much better out of context. (Tirantes went back to playing it completely straight here, because whatever.) Alberto looked like a million dollars and like a guy who would enjoy a long singles match with Mesías. Myzteziz is almost as good at doing the spinning DDT on Pentagon Jr. as Sexy Star. Myzteziz and Alberto as friends is still strange to me.
