Dragon Lee javelin tope

recap

taped 2015-04-05 @ Arena México

tonight’s ramp dropkick

Ángel de Oro, Stuka Jr., Valiente vs Kamaitachi, Pólvora, Rey Escorpión: [ok] border line match. Match was generally good but it’s also the match you’ve see with these guys – the técnicos in particular – many times. It’s hard to recommend watching a match when there will be a dozen more like it. Kamaitachi being a match without Dragon Lee was the one outlier here, and he fit in well going against Valiente and Stuka mostly. His only problem was not knowing his partners wanted him to do his finish, but it ended well.

Maximo double kiss

Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas vs Máximo, Titán, Volador Jr.: [ok] if you’ve been suffering withdrawal from Máximo/Mr. Niebla matches, this is definitely one of those. And Mr. Niebla even lands his top rope splash without injuring anyone, so that’s good. Otherwise, this was a match where you can call spots five seconds before they actually happen so.

Dragon Lee stole the multiple German spot from his enemy!

Virus © vs Dragon Lee for the CMLL World Super Lightweight Championship: [great] outstanding title match, in the Virus tradition. This was a greatly different match than Dragon Lee has been having against Kamaitachi, and he looked very adept at it. He completely wrestled Virus’ style in the first fall, and never truly got into the high impact/crazy fall style he did in the mask match. (Would’ve liked to see a little more of that, actually.) Virus wrestled a match full of his usual smart opportune movements. I loved the way he used Dragon Lee’s positioning and a well timed jab to set up for the second fall finish, and everything he did to hold Dragon Lee down in legs holds in the first part of the third fall felt real. There was a great intensity to this match, with every cover being made like it might be the one which did it and some fun counter sequences near the end. Dragon Lee made the most of his tope. The double stomp to win looked good, just wish Virus had at least teased one of his usual finishes before hand. It felt like they could’ve gone for five more minutes easy. Maybe that fact that they left things on the table means they’re planning on a rematch. I’d like to see it.

Virus’ dropkick doesn’t miss
