CMLL preview, the Crash, AAA to CHIKARA, Cavernario on his knee

Tonight’s CMLL main event is Atlantis, Mistico and Rush versus Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, and Thunder. There’s been subtle signs of a cage match coming up, but those signs should be much less subtle after tonight if it’s going to happen soon. The semimain is a singles match between Volador versus Mephisto, explicitly as a prelude to a Hijos del Infierno/Sky Team title match. The Ultimo Guerrero/Rey Escorpion untrustworthy partnership continues in the fourth match.

Many AAA wrestlers are on a weekend tour of the Mexico north west for The Crash promotions. It’s the indy promotion’s first shows since Perro Aguayo Jr.’s death, and includes a show in Tijuana tonight, the same arena where Perro was fatally injured. They honored Perro on last night’s show in Mexicali and will do the same tonight. Fenix and Fantasma have a rematch for the AAA cruiserweight title, with a main event of Angelico, Blue Demon, Psycho Clown versus Brian Cage, Texano Jr., and Mesias.

CHIKARA Pro announced Fenix, Aerostar and Drago would be part of their annual King of Trios tournament. That tournament takes place September 4th to the 6th, and this likely means TripleMania isn’t happening that weekend and Lucha Underground is not going to be (or resume) taping that weekend.

(I’d like to go to this. There are past years where I’d like to go this and I’ve never actually gone. Losing two vacation days is the toughest part.)

Barbaro Cavernario appeared on this past week’s Super Libre and mentioned his knee (re)injury occurred when he dove out of the ring onto Virus. It looked like bad times when they showed the highlights in Reyes del Aire, Virus just couldn’t catch the dive. Cavernario said the injury was not serious and he just needed rest to recover. He’s off shows this week, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he’s just rested until he heads to Japan.

At the Lucha World Cup press conference, Canek said he was disappointed not to actually be in the tournament, but reminded everyone of all the international people he faced two decades ago. Myzteziz acknowledges the Dream Team is the favorites, but the competition will be tough. He also is rooting for the Leyendas team to make it to the final so they can be assured a Mexico team will win.
