Argenis, Dinastía, Niño Hamburguesa vs Carta Brava Jr., Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Mini Psycho Clown: [ok] closer to forgettable for an opener. Not enough Dinatia for me. The new trio is really the biannual Electroshock push – he was the only one to get to talk – but Hijo del Pirata has to come off as a star if he’s going to get anything out of it. He came across as just another guy in this match. They did keep him out of the finish. The técnicos win these because the people in charge feel like it gets more heat on the rudos when they take away the celebration, but Pirata should’ve wiped the floor with the likes of this técnico trio if he’s going somewhere. Not convinced he is. Electroshock’s speech sounded weirdly like the Ingobernables – challenging everyone on any side, saying it didn’t matter if they one or loss.
Drago & Faby Apache vs Dark Cuervo & Taya Valkyrie: [ok] This was an another odd feeling outcome, since Cuervo is never on TV and has no clear role and yet beat Faby anyway. Everyone was fine in this match, it just didn’t quite click for me. This was a very quiet crowd for a México City taping. For just about any AAA taping, really, and it could’ve used that extra boost from an enthusiastic crowd. There were definitely good moves, with Cuervo and Taya working well as a rudo unit.
Angélico, Australian Suicide, Jack Evans vs Daga, Joe Lider, Súper Fly: [good] On this one, it become more obvious they just weren’t getting any sound from the action itself. The mat microphone would occasionally pick up when when hit the ground, but there was no sound for anyone hitting each other. Maybe that’s a simple reason why the match show was not making much impact. (Besides the obvious.) This was a good match, maybe not at the level of the better ones from last year with his técnico team. Still pretty good and they were definitely trying for that level; it went on longer than I would’ve expected and the effort was there. Match got stronger as the match went on. There was very little Lider annoyingness. Angelico & Daga had a nice long sequence in what turned out to be a false finish tease. The stacked up superplex at least formed in a different way than usual, but did look like half the people involved were crushed. Angelico corner crucifix powerbomb (Fall of the Angels on Lucha Underground) as set up to an apron high knee was sure weird. Super Fly weirdly has the strongest powerbomb now.
Fénix, Myzteziz, Psycho Clown vs el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Hijo del Fantasma, Pentagón Jr.: [ok] These recaps have basically become a recommendation engine at this point. That kind of seems beyond the point with any Perro Aguayo Jr. random TV match at this point; there are plenty of other reasons you’re going to watch or not watch. (He takes a 619 in this match. It’s the weirdest thing.) This seemed like it was OK. The previous Fantasma/Pentagon match worked better for me. Fantasma biting Psycho Clown’s (fake) tongue was hilarious. Fantasma having the Fenix handspring spot scouted was a nice progression, felt like it should’ve set up something bigger.
