CMLL weekend results, ninja turtle thrown in pool, ChilangaMask to Guadalajara

CMLL (FRI) 04/10/2015 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [CMLL]
1) El Alteño & Meteoro b El Piraña & Relampago
Relampago replaced Satara, Meteoro replaced Alteno. Chakal, Furia Roja and Gran Kenut attacked the tecnicos after the match.
2) El Divino, Frezzer, Meteoro b El Chakal, Furia Roja, Gran Kenut
Furia Roja replaced Evola, and Meteoro hung around to replace Indigo. Divino beat Chacal to get the win.
3) Virgo b Demonio Maya [lightning]
Vigro won to set up a title match.
4) Flash I & Flash II DCOR Exterminador & Maléfico
neither team could return after dives
5) Jocker, Ráfaga, Sádico b Esfinge, Magnum, Omar Brunetti
Jocker & Sadico had problems, Sadico still angry about Jocker taking his hair in the cage match. Tecnicos won with Magnum beating Jocker.

Guys running in the opener to lead into the segunda is very unusual in CMLL, but maybe they just wanted to cover a guy working twice.

CMLL (SAT) 04/11/2015 Arena Coliseo [CMLL]
1) Pequeño Olímpico b Angelito
2) La Vaquerita b La Seductora
dropped to the second match
3) Nitro b Sensei
moved up to the third.
4) Stigma b Arkángel de la Muerte
Stigma with a huracanrana
5) Tritón b Sangre Azteca
Triton surprised Sangre with a small package
6) Blue Panther Jr. & Dragon Lee b Kamaitachi & Okumura
Okumura replaced Virus. Kamaitachi snuck in a foul on Dragon Lee.
7) Guerrero Maya Jr., Máximo, Rush b Ephesto, Rey Bucanero, Shocker
Shocker cheated to beat Rush.

CMLL’s Twitter wrote about the first four matches from tonight’s Arena Mexico show, then just stopped, then still hasn’t posted a report five hours later. I sometimes feel the same level of boredom with CMLL shows, I can empathize.

CMLL, in CMLL fashion, announced the Arena Mexico Anniversary show would take place on 04/26 show and pushed it as a big show. It’s positioned as a Kid’s Day show (though it’d make sense if that Friday’s 05/01 show is also a Kid’s Day one.)  They’ve got a tie in with a university and should fill the place. This means CMLL may actually book storylines at some point to build to that show.

Rafy thrown into pool/photo by Black Terry Jr.

indy (SAT) 04/11/2015 Ex Balneario Olímpico, Ciudad de México, Distrito Federal [Black Terry Jr. (flickr), Estrellas del Ring]
1) Ángel Jr. & Lokillo b Ave Negra & Ironía
2) Extremo & Payaso De Plata b Power Bull & Psyque
3) Fly Star, Metaleón, Mr. Leo, Toxin Boy b Águila Misteriosa, Centvrión, Fulgor I, Fulgor II
Mr. Leo & Metaleon are #HIGHLION. Metaleon overshot everyone on a springboard tornillo, and landed head first on cement. It looked brutal, but he apparently is OK. Medical assistance was there quick and he was put in a neck brace. Match was stopped while he was treated, then resumed with out Aguila Misteriosa to keep the sides even. Winners dedicated their win to Metaleon.
4) Fly Metalik, Terremoto, Wotam b Demasiado, Diva Salvaje, Estrella Divina
Wotan hurt his knee on a plancha to the outside
5) Leo, Mike, Rafy, Teelo b Kilvan, Rey Lobo Jr., Shadow, Yoruba
Turtles took 2/3, despite Rafy being thrown into the pool

A governmental sponsored show. Black Terry Jr. has a video clip of the tornillo; it’s ugly. That’s Metaleon doing the voiceover, thanking the medics. Also, Ninja Turtle into a pool.

There are photos, video and reports (here too) on the Hijo del Perro Aguayo mass on Saturday.

Rey Misterio Jr. is listed as wrestling in Ensenada on 05/09.

An AAA audio preview of the 05/02 lineup. They still don’t know who this Kronuz is!

Last week’s +LuchaTV never aired on TV, but was placed on their YouTube channel on Saturday. Today, instead of a new episode, there was a repeat episode of Leyendas Inmortales from the previous production crew, with updated upcoming event info – so something’s been changed here. I hope we still get more +LuchaTV but that doesn’t seem good.

RobViper has a music video of 12/07/14 AAA.

Fuego en el Ring had Psycho Clown as a guest.

SuperLibre had Super Estrella and Salvador Flores in studio.

SuperLuchas looks back at a Gran Alterantiva of 1978 and a tag title change 30 years ago.

Segunda Caida watches the Grave Consequences Lucah Underground episode.

Looks like Monterrey is getting their own Ninja Turtles and Rene Guajarado III still exists.

Lineups

IWRG (THU) 04/16/2015 Arena Naucalpan
1) Araña de Plata vs Atomic Star, Hip Hop Man, Alas de Acero, Aeroman
2) Dragón Celestial, Metaleón, Yakuza vs Dowki, Electro Boy, Imposible
3) Apolo Estrada, Avisman, El Hijo del Diablo © vs Canis Lupus, Eterno, X-Fly [EdM Trios]
Gringos’ seventh defense
4) Faby Apache, Lady Maravilla, Veneno vs Oficial AK47, Sexy Lady, Taya Valkyrie
5) Hijo De Dos Caras, Myzteziz, Ricky Cruz vs Cibernético, Electroshock, Hijo de Máscara Año 2000

The Myzteziz/AAA appearance. They set up a Cruz/Caras match with the Rey del Ring, and this seems like the crowd to turn one of them.

CMLL (FRI) 04/17/2015 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Linterna Verde Jr., Nube Roja, Toro Negro vs Mr. Trueno, Ráfaga, Rey Trueno
2) Flash I, Flash II, Pepe Aguayo vs Gran Eku, Pitbull I, Pitbull II
3) Forastero, Hijo del Calavera, Magnum vs Évola, Exterminador, Furia Roja
4) Frezzer, Metatrón, Reycko vs El Cuatrero, Jocker, Sansón [OCCIDENTE TRIOS, tournament]
5) Demonio Maya © vs Virgo [OCCIDENTE MIDDLE]
Maya’s first defense. The last four occidente middleweight title matches here have ended in title matches.

This is the last Friday show; both radio shows mentioned they’re moving back to Sundays after the All Elite show.

There was an Occidente Trios Championship at some point, but it’s before any history I have. It’s been a while.

Chilanga Mask (SAT) 05/16/2015 Arena Roberto Paz, Guadalajara, Jalisco
1) Aero Xtreme vs Rey Celestial, Reggae Boy, Mercurio
2) Dralion vs Belial
3) Fly Star, Fly Warrior, Toxin Boy vs Astro Rey Jr., Draego, Psico Kid
4) Fulgor I & Fulgor II vs Dorado Jr. & Sangre Fría Jr.
5) Aéreo (Ciudad Juarez), Latín Dragon, Rey Horus vs Aero Boy, Arez, Kaientai
6) Impulso vs Saturno
7) Black Terry vs Caifan vs Satánico

Good card: interesting veteran main event, semimain with a talented local guy getting a big chance, a trios match with six very different guys brought together in one match. All the matches have a chance to be good here.

Sombra (and his friends) LOSE to Volador Jr., Marcela wins the women’s title again, Verano de Escandalo on 06/14

CMLL (FRI) 04/10/2015 Arena México [CMLL]
1) Astral, Eléctrico, Fantasy b Mercurio, Pequeño Olímpico, Pierrothito
Pierrothito replaced Pequeno Universo 2000 on Monday.
2) Fuego, Pegasso, Tritón b Boby Zavala, Puma, Tiger
Tecnicos took 1/3. Puma dislocated a shoulder during the match but still finished.
3) Marcela b Syuri © [CMLL WOMEN]
Seconds were Skadi & Kamaitachi. Marcela won with a super Michinoku Driver, taking the title for the fourth time. Syuri falls on her third defense.
4) Ángel de Oro, Atlantis, Super Porky DQ Gran Guerrero, Rey Escorpión, Último Guerrero
Dragon Rojo Jr. was listed as replacing Super Porky on Monday, then Super Porky ended up back in the match anyway. Rudos took Atlantis’ mask for the DQ.
5) Marco Corleone, Máximo, Rush DQ Rey Bucanero, Shocker, Terrible
TGR was DQed for excessive violence.
6) La Sombra b Volador Jr.
Sombra took falls 1/3, the last with help from the rest of the Ingobernables.
6) Volador Jr. b La Sombra
Volador took the win, taking 2/3. Volador had the last fall won, Ingobernables intefered, Sombra went for a cocky pin and got rolled up for the loss.

Update: had the main event result wrong.

Main event looks good. Would expect the title match to air instead of the fourth match.

CMLL posted The Panther vs Virus on their channel. There’s also the stellar moments from last week.

CMLL’s Saturday Coliseo show has Guerrero Maya Jr., Maximo, Rush vs Ephesto, Rey Bucanero, Shocker as the main event. Sunday will have Atlantis, Mistico, Titan vs Casas, Mr. Niebla and Cavernario.

Copetes Salazar posted on Facebook that Verano Escandalo will be June 14th in Arena Monterrey, with Rey Misterio Jr. appearing. That comment can’t be found now and is probably deleted. AAA probably wasn’t planning to announce that date for a few weeks more. I’d assume that if Rey Misterio is appearing, it’ll probably end up on iPPV again.

Lucha Underground resumes taping today and tomorrow in Los Angeles. This weekend’s shows will cover June 25th to July 15th, episodes 33 to 36. No word of anyone new showing up, but it’s about the last weekend to add on; the next set of shows will close out the season. If you’re going to the shows, I’d love to get results or any notes from the tapings.

AAA TV moves onto San Luis Potosi today, so you’re not going to see the rest of Rey de Reyes unless you ordered the iPPV. Today’s matches include Brian Cage vs Alberto el Patron and the show is actually already up on the YouTube channel. The show begins with the Perro Aguayo Jr. tribute from the show.

This week’s +LuchaTV is already up too.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s Thursday update.

Segunda Caida reviews Lucha Underground episode 18.

CaraLucha has added Cavernario vs Toscano vs Herodes Jr. to it’s 05/02 show.

ClaroLuchas has a video interview with Okumura about his career.

SuperLuchas has a good first person story about what it’s like to train lucha libre. Also, Teddy looks back to past April 10th.

Estado de Mexico’s lucha libre commission will be renewing licenses and handing out new ones on Wednesday. That they’ve only allowed for two hours to do this suggests these are not going to be time consuming processes.

Lady Apache claims she’s banned from both CMLL & AAA for trying to improve conditions for fellow luchadors.

+LuchaTV has video of Iron Kid talking about his ChilangaMask show and Hijo de Dos Caras on his match with Negro Navarro.

DJ Spectro looks at Cibernetico’s debut as Espiritu Negro and as Cibernetico.

Konnan Big: “I did not kill lucha libre.

Lineup

CMLL (FRI) 04/17/2015 Arena México
1) Flyer & Molotov vs Akuma & Espiritu Negro
2) Oro Jr., Pegasso, Tritón vs Canelo Casas, Disturbio, Okumura
3) Marcela, Princesa Sugehit, Silueta vs Amapola, Dalys, Narumiya
4) Titán vs Pólvora [lightning]
5) La Sombra, Marco Corleone, Máximo vs Rey Escorpión, Thunder, Último Guerrero
6) Mistico, Valiente, Volador Jr. vs Bárbaro Cavernario, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas

Mr. Niebla handles the video preview and the main event. That’s almost champion trio versus champion trio, only Cavernario in for Felino.

Thunder returns from whatever he disappeared to, but is not facing Rush now.

Naumiya won Amapola’s CMLL-REINA championship in Japan, probably will be losing it to someone soon enough.

CMLL Friday preview, CaraLucha, Laredo Kid

Tonight’s CMLL show is quietly a big one (though it can’t be that big if it’s this quiet.) La Sombra and Volador Jr. resume the feud of their generation with another singles main event. The biggest problem with the Ingobernables has been them constantly facing rudos while wrestling like rudos themselves. That’s not a problem with tonight’s match, and perhaps it’ll led in to the natural feud between the Ingobernables and the Sky Team.

The undercard includes Syuri’s title defense against Marcela. It’s Syuri’s last match in Mexico. CMLL’s usual patterns suggest Marcela is a heavy favorite, but there’s still a chance Syuri goes back to Japan with the CMLL women’s title. The show also has the TGR trio teaming again in the semifinal, and Rey Escorpion teaming with the Guerreros again because old feuds just fade away.

Mistico says it was a month after he returned to the ring when he finally felt 100%. He has looked improved compared to FantasticaMania.

Mr. Niebla says he wants to train like he’s going to the Olympics, and be healthy enough to be in the Mr. CMLL bodybuilding contest – he’s joking, but he wants to prove he can still go with the youngsters. This week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter expands on the story about why Mr. Niebla missed the last half of FantasticaMania: he didn’t show up for the bus, they found him passed out on the floor, NJPW took him to the hospital and angrily made CMLL pay the bill. It’s not mentioned there, but I was told CMLL wants Niebla to repay them. I wonder if the reason he’s back is to work off that debt.

CaraLucha announced they’re holding a new talent tournament (Bestiario), resembling CMLL’s En Busca de un Idolo. Luchadors are invited to send in their info, they’ll choose 16 to have a session with a trainer, and 8 of those will advance to a single elimination tournament. Luchadors will not advance by winning, but by getting a higher score from a panel of five judges (a referee, a luchador, a media member, a CaraLucha staff member and a fan.) The final will be on 05/30, with the winner also getting to face Flamita on the same show. The loser will get a special singles match on another show, and those final two will become be booked by CaraLucha going forward.

On the surface, I have the same problem with this as the En Busca de Un Idolo tournament: lucha libre is interesting as a fake sport, but not as fake performance art that’s graded within the context of the show. We can do here because we’re not part of the show, but doing it on the show breaks it’s own reality. Instead of having a judging panel declare who’s better after the match, it seems easier and less fake to have the person in charge actually decide who’s better before the match and then just do a match where the better person wins. That seems like a crazy old school thought but I’m sticking with it.

This particular format seems to cause bigger problems than the CMLL one: En Busca de un Idolo has a luchador face a variety of luchadors so any one specific opponent doesn’t have a big influence. In Bestiario, a luchador’s chance of advancing is entirely depending on looking better than the person they’re working with. If your Caralucha, you’re trusting that everyone will be super professional and not try to sabotage others to help themselves advance. (CMLL hasn’t seemed to have that issue because everyone in En Busca de un Idolo is still in CMLL the next day and has to go back to that locker room. If a luchador knows they won’t be brought back to CaraLucha if they lose, there’s a lot less peer pressure to do the right thing.) Of course I’m thinking cynically when there are just as many possible problems on the other extreme – this could be seven matches of diving off the balcony if they think it’ll get over with the judges.

This week’s WON mentioned a dark match on the SmackDown with the Matadors against two unknowns that went well, with one of the local competitors mentioned as flying around a lot. This turns out to be Sammy Guervara & “Tony Guevara”, where Tony was actually an unmasked Laredo Kid. (It doesn’t appear that’s not his real name or that he’s related to other guy, just the name he was using on the name.) I’d assumed Laredo was the one flying around, but it’s Sammy who has a picture on Facebook of him doing a 450 splash so perhaps that’s a bad assumption. Laredo’s unmasked pictures are there as well, but I’m not going to link to them.

Black Terry responds to Psico Kid’s challenge to a match on a ChilangaMask show. All the wrestlers on the internet should find the +LuchaTV cameras and cut promos on Black Terry just to see if they can pull it off.

Recall when Jim Ross was saying he hadn’t talked to Lucha Underground (but it was mostly clear his representatives had)? Now he’s said he talked to Lucha Underground, but they couldn’t make the schedules work. Ross says he was going to be involved in the finale taped next week. I was skeptical of Ross as a full time announcer for that sort of product, but bringing him in for a season finale would’ve definitely worked.

Hours after All Elite announced their final card for 04/19 show, they announced Satanico will replace Blue Panther.

RobViper has a music video of 12/19/14 CMLL.

The La Bulla lucha libre art showcase (with a wrestling card) takes place tomorrow in Los Angeles.

CMLL’s Alexis posted first person video of Magnus walking to the ring, plus clips of what Angel de Oro and Soberano‘s dive look like from ringside.

LV and Voices of Wrestling’s Lawrence O’Brien  review this week’s Lucha Underground

Segunda Caida’s Matt D reviews Bucanero & Guerrero vs Mr. Niebla & Villano IV.

+LuchaTV has quick words from LA Park and Dr. Wagner Jr. on the Ingobernables.

Corsario Negro talks about his match against Wotan on the WMC show this weekend.

Psicosis II’s in the Chicago area for a match he’s having with Discovery on Sunday and is demanding an ambulance to the show, because he’s going to put Discovery in it. That show has Valiente & Solar and other people I’m not that interested in.

Blue Demon Jr. is an endorsing political candidates.

Carolina de la Torre, who was the IWRG ringside interviewer for a period in 2013 and 2014, posed for photos in Playboy Mexico. (That link does not take you to the pictures.)

Lineups

AULL (SUN) 04/19/2015 Arena Lopez Mateos

2) Holkan © vs Ironía [AULL Light]

Leviatham’s first defense.

Herejia’s first defense.

7) Gallego, Rocky Santana, Romano Garcia © vs Dante, Euro, Filder [AULL TRIOS]
Diabolicos 3rd defense.

All championship show. In an upset, there appears to be no phantom title changes.

Shows Watched But Nothing Worthwhile

Lucha Underground: 2015-03-04

I abadoned the idea of doing a post for CMLL on Fox Sports (Mexico): 2015-02-28 about 3 matches in, because it was a dumb tournament show and I had nothing really to say. Enjoy a token gif.

This was also the week where I kept putting off watching Leyendas Inmortales until I decided it I just could not justify spending the time on it.

Matches To Watch Later

don’t have anything from TV
