Sunday was the International Day of Women, and Notimex interviewed Dark Angel about what it was like for a luchadora. She was critical of CMLL, feeling the women do the same job as the men but aren’t given the same opportunities.  The writer seemed to be suggested all female shows, but Dark Angel sounds more interested in better spots on the cards they already work. Dark Angel’s also disappointed with the smaller coverage for women’s wrestling, and that coverage focusing more on their looks than their skill.

CMLL (SUN) 03/08/2015 Arena México [CMLL]
1) Mercurio & Pierrothito b Fantasy & Último Dragoncito
Scheduled to be Pequeno Violencia’s first match since July (knee injury), but he was replaced by Mercurio. Ultimo Dragoncito, last seen getting carried out of Arena Coliseo after a bad moonsault landing less than 24 hours ago, replaced Stukita.

3) Dark Angel, Marcela, Silueta b Amapola, Dalys, Tiffany
Silueta’s first match here since September. Tecnicas took 1/3.

Blue Panther replaced Dragon Lee on Monday. Tecnicos took 2/3.
5) Ángel de Oro, Mistico, Volador Jr. b Gran Guerrero, Mephisto, Niebla Roja
6) Rey Bucanero b La Sombra [NWA LH]
Match for vacant title (Diamante Azul on long term hiatus). Sombra currently holds the NWA Middleweight Championship. Bucanero was the prior champion. Hechicero was Bucanero’s second and Mistico was Sombra’s second for reasons unknown to man. Sombra cheated to take the first fall by using the ropes, which caused Mistico to leave. Rey Bucanero used a Canadian Destroyer to win the second. The ref was knocked down in the third, Sombra fouled Rey Bucanero, but Bucanero pulled off Sombra’s mask and rolled him up to win the title.

I’m guessing the main event was OK. It basically already; this week’s 52MX match had their match from Guadalajara, which had those same exactly finishes. Nothing’s really accomplished by giving Bucanero the belt, but nothing was being accomplished prior. It’s a tidy zero sum game.

Something’s up with Alberto del Rio, though what exactly is going on is unclear. Today’s Wrestling Observer update says Alberto suffered a torn quad while wrestling in Mexico in Wednesday and worked a simpler match on the indies this weekend. Which is odd. As best I can tell, Alberto did not wrestle in Mexico on Wednesday; he didn’t wrestle at all since last weekend’s shows. He appeared to be moving around OK at the press conference Tuesday, so it doesn’t seem like he got hurt on those shows. MLW Radio’s podcast talked about this early on, with MSL & Court Bauer saying they thought it was a hamstring that was actually injured, and Konnan saying he knew nothing about it but that he was with Alberto on Wednesday (at a sponsors dinner) and looked fine there. I dunno. I’m sure Alberto is hurt, just the details are odd.

Konnan also mentioned the plan for the AAA international tournament is for it to be held in Mexico City and to become a yearly tournament. (Though, at the same time, he wasn’t sure about how many teams would be in it so this may just not be his department; he gave Dorian credit for the idea.)

Dark Angel pointed out the only main she’s been in was a 10 woman cage match. We’re so used to women being no higher than the fourth match that it doesn’t seem strange. If you take a step back and see that what CMLL is putting on top isn’t actually working for most shows right now, it seems strange they wouldn’t try something very different. A women’s title match has as much right to main event a Saturday or Tuesday as show any Arena Coliseo Tag Team championship match or men’s national title match, and maybe having something different might attract fans. I’d say the same for the minis too. It’s part of the general idea that different things need to be done in CMLL, but this one wouldn’t take much effort.

  1. 5 million pesos from 1985… about 9k dollars, of course, 30 years later, that would be 20 thousand dollars… a hefty amount but VIII probably just made up a “crazy” number to deter people from asking the masks match, and now it kinda sounds like a number of indies could put it up if they wanted… probably telling of how little they were paid back then. OTOH, back then, masks loses were more like trying a different gimmick and not about getting a huge payoff and ride off into the sunset… then again, now they just ride off to where they are allow to keepi using the mask… -_-
