5) Cerebro Negro L Súper Fly, Apolo Estrada Jr., Electro Boy, Eterno, Golden Magic, Universo 2000 Jr., Argenis, Machine Rocker, Mamba, Niño Hamburguesa, Venum
AAA vs IWRG. Order of escape unknown. 10 minutes of fighting prior to escape. Golden Magic dove off the top of the cage. Apolo bled. Match came down to Cerebro Negro and Super Fly (who know has face paint to match his shoulder tattoo.) Cerebro Negro gave Super Fly the Cerebro Driver, Eterno and Argenis both returned to attack their promotion rivals, left, and Super Fly managed to escape first.

Super Fly winning a big match is amazing. It’d be fun if they ran with this with Super Fly as vile AAA rudo until someone in IWRG was finally able to defeat him. Black Terry Jr. has highlights of this show and of this show’s Five Match Fighters. +LuchaTV has highlights of the match and interviewed Super Fly and Cerebro Negro about the outcome.

IWRG is advertising it’s Gulfo de Guerra show on 03/15, which may be a replacement for not having the Super Nova/Hijo de Dos Caras title match.

AAA has it’s final TV taping prior to Rey de Reyes. It’s a weird taping; we know now the complete lineup for the show, but it’s in Gimnasio Olimpico Juan de la Barrera where AAA tends to run big storylinetwists. The main event is a sort of set up of the Rey de Reyes main event, with everyone but Rey Misterio together again on this. The semimain has the Hell Brothers versus La Parka, Blue Demon and Mesias, which will be repeated with a different AAA trios next weekend. Super Fly tries to build his win streak to two in a row, teaming with Joe Lider & Daga versus Los Güeros del Cielo in the most promising match of the night.

AAA also announced the iPPV details for Rey de Reyes last night. The show will be 150 Mexico Pesos, which is about $10 USD. That’s a really great price. The website for the show is http://internetvluchalibreaaa.com and it airs on March 15th at 6pm local. (This page will convert it to your local time; daylight time makes this tougher than usual.) The announcing will only be in Spanish and the site is only in Spanish, though it’s easy enough to figure out. (Maybe I should do a walk thru later?) My credit card company blocked my first attempt at purchasing the show because it was suspicious; that may be something to check if it’s not working for you.

They will be transmitting the show in HD & 3D. I can’t imagine many people will actually be able to watch the show in 3D, but it’s amusing.  I’d be thrilled if it simply works in HD, though $10 is so low that I’ll just watch it later if it fails and be fine. The FAQ says it’ll be up available for 7 days after the show.

There will be no regular PPV for this show, so the only ways you can see the show are going to Guadalajara or seeing it via IPPV.

+LuchaTV has video of the Misterio press conference and the announcement of the Dream Team. There’s a slight problem for that show: Alberto’s listed as wrestling in the UK on 05/23, the same day as the tournament. Dorian Roldan told ESPN that he can’t give the names of the other people in this tournament, because no one’s been signed. Everything announced so far should be considered a working plan.

R de Rudo makes a case for Rey Mysterio being able to wear his mask in Mexico: he lost his mask in the US, which is not a mask loss sanctioned by the Mexican commission and the commissions haven’t enforced that rule consistently.

Mascara Sagrada Jr., who lost his mask to Hijo de Dr. Wagner back in 2010, but still wrestles masked. He explained to Estrellas del Ring that he does so because he was wrestling as Mascara Jr. (for that day only), and he never lost the Mascara Sagrada Jr. mask so he should still be able to wrestle under the mask. He also strongly suggested people should stop asking him about it or criticizing him for it. Mascara Sagrada Jr. staying masked has surely helped his career, as this interview was conducted at a show where he main evented and drew upwards of 25 people.

CMLL wrap up the torneo incredible de parajes with Maximo & Terrible vs Volador & Rey Bucanero, a match which should end in a double disqualification given the rest of this tournament. I’d guess Volador & Rey Bucanero win, but only after both teams turn on each other a nauseating amount of times. Between this tournament of people turning on each other non-stop and La Sombra telling the Informa audience he doesn’t care if he wins or loses Sunday’s title match, I’m not really sure why we should care about CMLL outcomes.  Semimain is another in the unending string of Ingobernables vs Guerreros matches. Dragon Lee & Kamaitachi are way down in the tercera.

Rush again demands an Ingobernable atomicos match. As pointed out in the comments, that’s be a much more interesting Dos Leyendas match than the semimain they have now.

Dragon Lee is unsure if his career will go on if he should lose at Dos Leyendas.

Lucha Underground Executive Producer Eric Van Wagenen was on The Last Real Heels podcast talking about how he ended up on the show. It’s a month old (I’m way behind) but it’s pretty interesting. There’s great Steve Austin stories, and a bit of talk about the venue. Dario’s office being right next to the ring wasn’t something they created, but a room that already existed that someone realized would just be a neat place to stick Dario in during the show. Van Wagenen is effusive towards El Rey and their support for the show, mentioning the network has always encouraged them to do try different ideas and definitely not just do it because that’s what WWE does. A guy who works on Robert Rodriguez’ movies is credited here – and on Chris DeJoseph’s recent Wrestling Observer Live appearance – credited with specifically coming up with the look for the backstage scenes. At that point a month ago, he seemed positive El Rey would pick them up for season 2, suggesting Lucha Underground may just continue into taping a second season as soon as the first is done with no break in between.

At the tail end of an interview from Tuesday, Konnan says not to rule out CM Punk or Brock Lesnar coming to AAA. I’m going to rule it out. He also mentioned “others from WWE” and I’m not going to rule that one out. WWE’s like AAA’s NXT right now.

Diva Salvaje, Estrella Divina and Demasiado are interviewed for a Spanish language version of the “story of the exoticos” type article that’s been only done in English in the last few months. Of note, AAA’s accused of being discriminatory for only putting exoticos in Relevos AAA matches (and not a trios of exotico or out of the opener.) I tend to think there’s a specific issue for Pimpi, who’s better off hidden in those sort of matches at this point. AAA’s occasionally used other exoticos on TV, but no one’s looking as good as the people they normally have on TV.

  1. Setsuko’s waist had a bad PhotoShop accident on the picture where Juventud holds the green title. ;-)
