rope walk headscissors, no problem

recap

Guerrero Maya Jr., Rey Cometa, The Panther vs Bárbaro Cavernario, Hechicero, Virus: [great] Totally entertaining match which started off strong and continued that level whole way. Everyone looked good on the mat, but Virus & Panther were by far the best. We really need that title match in 2015. They mostly split this into rivalries – Hechicero/Maya & Cometa/Cavernario too – but the rudos had great teamwork and everyone fed off each other smoothly into the next act. Hechicero & Cavernario have also got to keep teaming in 2015 because they work perfectly together and they play off each other well. Third fall was especially strong, with a couple surprise moments and no clear idea who going to win until the sudden ending. The other recent trios match with a lot of these names got more time to build. This was all full speed from the start and totally worth watching.

Ángel de Oro, Atlantis, Titán vs Mr. Águila, Mr. Niebla, Shocker: [ok] This match didn’t look interestingon paper and dint’ turn out more so, but it also wasn’t the disaster it could’ve been. It was just there, going thru regular spots. Shocker feuded with Angel de Oro, though Shocker was disinterested in taking Angel de Oro’s offense. Aguila was much more game. The always inattentive (but larger than usual!) Arena Coliseo Guadalajara stopped watching the first fall to watch something happening in the crowd – and so did Angel de Oro and Mr. Aguila for a second. Probably the right call. Mr. Niebla’s spit spot is getting cut out after years and I’m not sure why. Depressing result.

Máscara Dorada vs Mephisto: [good] This was a great match in 2012, but it’s less impressive when they’re almost doing the same match two years later. Dorada’s gotten better, but Mephisto just does the same title match every time with about the same moves every time. It’s probably still a good live match (where you’re seeing it once a year or so) than a TV once (where you’re seeing it many times a year), but he could use some changes either way. It’s kind of strange they still use the same dive->caverneria spot when a near top guy is using that move as his finish, but that’s the routine and they stick to the routine. Dorada’s rope walk headscissors looked good and his tornillo to the floor – his fourth of the match – was really tight. I have no idea why Mephisto won this match, but they did give Dorada an out by Mephisto using the most obvious rope grab in history. (Note: I wrote that all weeks ago…)
