Eterno takes Chicano’s hair, top sixty dives of 2014, Comandante Pierroth on his struggles

Dr. Wagner Jr. & LA Park in Arena Neza/photo by Black Terry Jr.

IWRG (SUN) 02/01/2015 Arena Naucalpan [Semiotica Del Deporte (Facebook), Tercera Caida]
1) Dowki & Power Bull b Alfa & Galaxy
2) Emperador Azteca, Metaleón, Pantera I b Avisman, El Hijo del Diablo, Hip Hop Man
3) Danny Casas, Golden Magic, Relámpago b Canis Lupus, Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr., X-Fly
Wagner’s first match here since May (probably due to him being around after working Saturday’s UWE show.) Danny caught Canis with a cradle and wants a title shot, but Canis said Danny’s got to prove himself in a non-title match first.
4) Hijo de Máscara Año 2000 & Universo 2000 Jr. DQ Hijo De Dos Caras & Súper Nova [super libre]
DQ in a super libre match after a ref was accidentally stabbed with a fork.
5) Eterno b Chicano [hair]
Seconds were Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. (Eterno) and Danny Casas (Chicano). Not sure why Canis wasn’t the Eterno’s second except they had a feud to set up. Chicano took fall 1, with Eterno bleeding already. Eterno rallied back to take 2/3, the last with a Spanish Fly. Mascara 2000 got involved in the post match (Chicano blaming him for the loss?), and he and Universo are now involved in the tag feud with Eterno/Canis & Chicano/Danny

Eterno avenges a hair loss four years later. Match should air tonight on AYM, sometime between 7pm and 2AM.

Elsewhere, Black Terry Jr. has photos of the Arena Neza show and also has a phantom cam video of Park smacking Wagner with a board.

Mistico returns to Arena Puebla for the first time in eight months tonight, teaming with new partners Volador & Valiente to take on Ephesto, Mephisto and Polvora. A singles match between Ultimo Guerrero and Sombra is the actual main event. No announcement of Rey Cometa’s replacement, but then CMLL’s hasn’t actually announced he’s out of action.

The current Comandante Pierroth says the previous Pierroth specifically picked him to get the gimmick. That’s a good story anyway. (And one they probably should’ve told a year ago if it was meant to be believed.) In that interview, Comandante Pierroth acknowledges the bad reaction to the character, saying the fans rejected him when he was originally put on top and now he’s got to earn his place. Comandante Pierroth noting how hard it is to follow Norberto Salgado makes one wonder why CMLL didn’t just give the new guy a different/new character, but the repeated mentions of how Salgado was just one of many people to use the name since the 60s is a clue. CMLL really likes it’s own IP.

RobViper has his top 60 dives of 2014 countdown: Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

Segunda Caida has a quick review of Black Terry/Trauma II and longer piece on Rey Hechicero vs Caifan from 2010.

Ohtani’s Jacket reviews Ultimo Dragon vs Negro Casas from 1992.

Super Luchas looks back at a middleweight #1 contenders match from 1939 among other February 2nd notes.

Stukita says he debuted at 12, that he started making gear because it was cheaper than buying it, and his toughest opponent are the people who don’t pay him after he’s made something for them. He can make two masks a day when he’s not off wrestling someplace.

Lineups

CMLL (FRI) 02/06/2015 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Leo & Omar Brunetti vs Jocker & Sádico [OCCIDENTE TAG, tournament]
2) Flash I & Flash II vs Exterminador & Maléfico [OCCIDENTE TAG, tournament]
3) Esfinge & Gallo vs Mr. Trueno & Rey Trueno [OCCIDENTE TAG, tournament]
4) Dragón Rojo Jr., Marco Corleone, Super Porky vs Felino, Mr. Águila, Terrible
5) Atlantis vs Gran Guerrero

That main event is just weird. Atlantis can have a good 8 minute match with anyone (and it’d probably be a better one if it was just one fall.)

No results from this past Friday have been posted but those tournament matches give about half the winners. Kind surprised the Cien Caras sons didn’t advance, but they were matched against the Flashs so they were probably  doomed. I might have spent way too much time coming up with a 12 team tournament bracket for the wiki.

  1. The Comandante Pierroth thing is strange because I tend to believe the story as the two were friends back in the Boricuas days & as the rumor goes he is the godfather to one of Pierroth’s kids. On the other hand Pierroth Jr. (Norbeto) has never come out in support of Comandante Pierroth and he’s been at CMLL shows where they could have easily done it. Also, you had that interview with Pierroth’s daughter where she claimed CMLL stole the gimmick by forcing Pierroth Jr. to sign documents some years back in exchange for money he desperately needed for surgeries.

Something definitely doesn’t add up but we may never know. I don’t forsee this Pierroth ever doing a mask match because revealing his identity would be exposing something CMLL probably doesn’t want to expose.

Only in CMLL do they strive to find ways to integrate & re-gimmick 50 year olds into the current product while ignoring dozens of talented youngsters who could use the same help.

Olimpico? No mask? No hair? Let’s find him a gimmick and stick him in semi-main events!

Rush’s dad who hasn’t wrestled in 10 years? Let’s give him the Pierroth gimmick even though he can’t talk!

Eternal second match guy Hooligan? Well Averno’s gone so let’s give him the Hombre Sin Nombre gimmick in order to eventually give him the name Lucifer so he can join Mephisto & Efesto!

Puma? Tiger? Fuego? Guerrero Maya Jr.? Eh… we’ll worry about them some other time. Just keep booking them in insignificant segundas & terceras.
