superkick

Dragon Lee, Pegasso, Rey Cometa vs Kamaitachi, Okumura, Virus: [OK] Disappointing for the level of names; this was a segunda on the card, and they worked down to a segunda level instead of doing all they could. Probably want the promotion wanted but not what this could’ve been and it’s strange they put it on TV. There was actually the structure of a really interesting match, with a lot of twists and near falls in the third fall, but not the content of one. Dragon Lee still feels like the one likely to go after Kamaitachi’s mask, assuming they don’t kill each other first. You wouldn’t know Lee and Virus are feuding on Tuesdays fro this match, or from the announcers telling you

Kamaitachi double knee drop
Virus finishes off Rey Cometa

wait, you can just take a step to the side???

Shocker, Terrible, Vangellys vs Máximo, Super Porky, Titán: [OK] Generic build to the cage match with Máximo and Shocker feuding and Terrible also existing. They treated it like Porky would be in the cage match too, but thankfully they’re not making him climb. Looking forward to a month from now, when Shocker and Máximo have forgotten they hate each other without either one lose their hair. (Confusingly, the only way the feud would keep going if one of them actually lost.)

now the Volador/UG spot

Atlantis, Valiente, Volador Jr. vs Euforia, Thunder, Último Guerrero: [OK] three straight shows (in the order I’m watching) where I haven’t rated anything over an OK and not much has been close. All three have featured Thunder main events, so that doesn’t help, but going 0 for 9 is a lousy way to spin an evening. Production people seemed less interested in the Ultimo Guerrero/Volador feud than I did, as they were slow to follow it when it went out of the ring, and it was out of the ring for most of the first two falls. Ultimo Guerrero no selling Volador’s finish was quite a way to end it. This match featured the lazy break right before a comeback editing, but it fit in with the rest of the match. Thunder had no idea who the captain is. I’m not sure if he knows there are captains. (To be fair, I’m not sure the refs know half the time.) Thunder trying to take a headscissors from Valiente was a predictably bad idea.

Thunder struggles
Ultimo Guerrero no sells Volador’s finisher, fouls him, gets up fine.

Angel de Oro series of topes

Ángel de Oro vs Mephisto in a lightning match: [OK] An Angel de Oro exhibition match. Angel de Oro exhibits the same offense in every match, so this is among the less necessary matches. Mephisto got offense just give Angel de Oro something to heroically escape. (Mephisto’s doing the middle rope Devil’s Wings kickout spot even in lightning matches now.) “Angel de Oro does two straight topes” can be added to the Angel de Oro bingo board. Listed as OK but completely skippable.
