Rush, 2014

recap

taped 2014-10-31 @ Arena México

Sombra & Mascara are the worst

La Máscara, La Sombra, Stuka Jr. vs Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Pólvora: [below average] Being threatened with Hell didn’t seem to stop the técnicos from fighting all match, but that sort of match feels a little bit like Hell so many were already there. A nothing match there to explain the Ingobernables are not nice people, as if the last few dozen times had not yet convinces us. This could not end soon enough. Poor Stuka was so tired by the end.

Stuka did get to do a dive
Mr. Niebla thanks Diamante Azul for not killing him

Atlantis, Diamante Azul, Volador Jr. vs Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Thunder: [OK] Very iffy for the first two falls, with guys looking especially lost in the second fall, before recovering for a decent third fall. The special lightning was a bit of an issue for all these matches. It was just hard to see on SD TV (though it wasn’t as an issue on Terra’s feed on Sunday) even before the random smoke explosion in the third fall. The lightning and the costumes made sense in the context but they didn’t do enough to explain that context. They really should’ve done that instead of airing that completely pointless opener.

Zacarias on the attack
Thunder, struck
Negro Casas knocked silly

UG diving hip smash

Rush vs Último Guerrero:[GREAT] Rush is awesome. Rey Escorpion showed the way to get a good match out of 2010s Ultimo Guerrero is to hit him very hard and Rush took that to another level. Even though it did have the the same UG quirks as always – what an odd time for Rush to decide to try his first ever top rope huricanrana and what incredible luck that UG was able to reverse it into a super powerbomb – forcing Ultimo Guerrero into a physical battle makes UG’s own attacks feel less rehearsed and more improvised. They even looked a bit fiercer, if he’s increase force to meet force. This was totally the Rush show, who is so obviously far ahead of Sombra after watching them against the same opponents. Rush connects with the crowd and has a better feel for the moment. Rush is as good with chops as he is freaking out the front row. Rush is probably not actually the best wrestler in the world, but he sure carried himself as if he was in a very strong third fall stretch, and so it felt huge for UG to cheat his way to a win. They caught the finish much better in the replay, but it was meant to be a surprise finish so that sort of worked.

dropkick to the face (not the chest)
Rush did this a dozen times in 2014, broke his leg the time he did inside the ring
