CMLL on CadenaTres: 2014-10-25

recap

taped 2014-10-21 @ Arena México

when in doubt, Super Comando falling down

Leono & Robin vs Akuma & Súper Comando: [Below Average] Forgettable opener that was hoshort than usual. Cadena3 actually cut out part of this match. Not to take anything bad out, just to fit it in time. They usually don’t seem to bother. The second fall turned so quick, it was like the técnicos just suddenly decided it was over and the rudos didn’t care enough to fight it. I’d still like to see Super Comando move up, but there’s no point in having him in an opener without Artillero. Akuma is not a suitable replacement.

Aereo gets demolished by a backcracker

Aéreo, Angelito, Astral vs Mercurio, Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Olímpico: [OK] A match where it seemed as if the rudos could actually win in straight falls, and maybe should’ve given how badly Astral blew the comeback spot. Things went better for Astral in the second fall, though the rudos were still the stars of the show. Mercurio’s wild double stomp in the third fall great, and his package piledriver on Angelito looked superb. Olímpico is just a guy but his partners have gotten very good.

rudos do not take it easy on Angelito
rudos fail before Electrico can break it up
Astral falls into the ambush!
shocking package piledriver
Arkangel strong powerbomb

Black Panther, Pegasso, Star Jr. vs Arkángel de la Muerte, Cancerbero, Raziel: [OK] Raziel and Cancerbero seemed more interested in being mean guys than super luchador in the first two falls, but all six threw in the kitchen sink in the third fall to finish strong. Arkangel was working hard enough to make me believe this match was being transmitted back to Japan. Tecnicos didn’t really stand out and Black Panther looked like a rookie at a time, but this made me want to see Raziel have a singles feud with anyone. Tecnico captain appeared to change in between falls, or Tirantes wasn’t really paying attention (or they just didn’t show the countouts, if we want to be charitable.)

double tope
Isis is trouble
VIrus looks cool even with doing something with an obvious flaw

Cachorro vs Virus: [GREAT] I could’ve gone for about 15 more minutes of this, but what we got was very good. Cachorro kept up with Virus on the mat, and the early hold for hold was far more compelling than usual. It also lasted longer than usual, leaving them not a lot of time to break out much of the rest of the repertoire. That was not a problem, but left you thinking about how much better than full match could be. Cachorro still got in his tope and his dropkick, but the unbeatable Virus absolutely had him scouted on the fujiwara armbar and neatly transitioned that into a victory. Virus must be carrying these youngsters but it doesn’t ever feel that way. At the same, while they’re close matches, you always come out thinking that Virus is still the man.

Cachorro wipe out tope
double springboard dropkick
Virus es mejor
Sagrado fail in slow motion

Fuego, Rey Cometa, Stuka Jr. vs Misterioso Jr., Pierroth, Sagrado: [OK] The good thing about this horrible new rudo trio is they have shorter matches than average and seem to be a little more focused in their matches. The bad thing about these matches is they’re showing up so frequently on TV that I can pick up trends. These three técnicos have really gotten good at getting a reaction from the crowd when they need to (and are allowed to do things to get a reaction), and were able to make this match a bit more exciting than it looked on paper. This over achieved thanks to them. And then they lost because life is not fair. At least Sagrado has a wacky strut now.

not the rudos smartest plan
the end of Tigre Hispano?

Ángel de Oro, Atlantis, Marco Corleone vs Rey Escorpión, Shocker, Thunder: [OK] Tigre Hispano has had a few close calls this year (including almost being run over by Máscara Dorada on his dive into the ring.) It’s sad he’s hurt and it’d be bad for him to go out this way, but it also seemed inevitable. It was probably just lucky another referee had stuck around given the stories of everyone leaving early. Rey Escorpion was limping rather noticably in the second fall too, it was a rough night. Atlantis was the old man I was worried about being hurt her. Having him face off with Thunder did not seem like a great idea, but they didn’t end up doing much. It is Thunder, after all, but Marco did well with him by just working around punch spots. This was build to Angel de Oro & Rey Escorpion, so I guess it’s good Oro didn’t all his usual spots, giving us a week from those.

Shocker dances too soon
