Syuri wins CMLL women’s championship, IWRG cheats to win revenge match, Dandy stays retired

Lucha Libre in Japan
12/12 REINA
3) Goya Kong [O] & Muneca de Plata b Haruka Kato [X], Erin [X], Koyuki Hayashi [X], Miyako Matsumoto [X]
4) Syuri b Marcela (c) [CMLL WOMEN]
Syuri took falls 1/3 to win the title, the last with a Buzzsaw kick. Syuri is the 16th champion, and 6th Japanese champion (Nakano, Jubuki, Yoshida, Hiroka, Kurihara). Marcela loses attempting her 13th known defense. She held the title for 2.5 years. Both are the second longest marks. Bull Nakano, the first person to hold this champion, was a special guest for the match and put the belt on Syuri after the win. Syuri already holds the REINA championship and it’s possible they’ve unified those two titles.

This came as a surprise, but it shouldn’t have been looking back. Marcela previously beat Syuri in Japan in August, and it doesn’t make sense to do this twice in such short time for the same outcome. Syuri making a return trip to Mexico seems likely. A similar situation took place with Ayumi Kurihara in 2011-12, which lead to Kurihara defending it in Japan a couple times before losing it back in Mexico.  (Here, they set up Kana as a challenger in the post match.) Last time, got a couple very good matches out of it, hoping for the same this time. Marcela hadn’t defended the belt in Mexico all year and they have two other women’s championships, so this shouldn’t chance much for the short term.

Twitter account @batt20110528 has a ton of picture of the complete match, which looks hard hitting.

CMLL (TUE) 12/09/2014 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Martes de Glamour]
1) Évola & Infierno b El Divino & El Tapatío
2) Esfinge & Leo b Mr. Trueno & Rey Trueno
3) Zeuxis b Dark Angel, Amapola, Princesa Sugehit, Tiffany, Lluvia, La Vaquerita, Dalys [cibernetico]
Zeuxis beat Sugehit, setting up a rematch.
4) Ángel de Oro, Rey Cometa, Stuka Jr. b Boby Zavala, Okumura, Vangellys
Stuka splash on Zavala for the win
5) Máscara Dorada, Máximo, Super Porky b Ephesto, Kráneo, Mephisto
Porky beat Kraneo
6) Volador Jr. b Último Guerrero
Ultimo Guerrero got in the Guerrero Special – in the second fall, which meant Volador was able to pull off the Spanish fly in the third fall. Hair match challenges followed.

Zeuxis and Sugehit have a lightning match next week. Nothing special in the two unannounced openers, just didn’t have room on the poster for them.

IWRG (WED) 12/10/2014 Arena Naucalpan [Black Terry Jr. (Flickr), The Gladiatores]
1) Power Bull b Vampiro Metálico II
2) Galaxy & Sky Ángel b Payaso De Plata & Payaso Extremo
3) Leo, Mike, Rafy, Teelo b Anubis Black, Araña de Plata, Atomic Star, Hip Hop Man
4) Black Terry, Dragón Celestial, Metaleón b Danger King, Dr. Cerebro,Orión
FILL vs Sexy Gym (this time called Sexy Gym Arkanos) feud from the FILL shows. FILL team took 1/3, Celestial beating Cerebro with his feet on the ropes.
5) Eterno, Oficial 911, Veneno b Canis Lupus, Chicano, Danny Casas
All the rudos were in a bad mood and there were moments of teammates of fighting each other, as well as the Eterno/Chicago feud resurfacing. 911 beat Casas and said the same would happen Sunday.

Danny Casas has never lost his hair. Neither has 911, but he just lost his mask and the Oficials luck in these things has turned bad.

Today’s CMLL main event is La Mascara, La Sombra and Marco Corleone vs Ultimo Guerrero, Shocker, and Thunder. The CMLL preview emphasizes Marco maybe being an ally of the Ingobernables and maybe facing off with Thunder. The best chance for a memorable match is the Valiente/Barbaro Cavernario lightning match. It seems a pretty unmemorable card overall.

Today is also the first Arena Coliseo Guadalajara show. It’s memorable for how odd the main event is for a move to a new night. Hijo del Signo and Canelo Casas being used as main eventers suggest this wasn’t planned out well, or for long. The semimain, El Dandy returning to team with the Pitbulls against Stanico and the Flashs, was probably actually supposed to be the drawing card but it’ll have to be one without El Dandy. Dandy was quietly pulled from the card this morning for Solar.

It looked like AAA had their annual company Christmas party yesterday, only everyone was dressed for wrestling so it’ll likely be something to be shown on TV. They’ve used that sort of footage as part of past of Best Of episodes and that might be the case here.

AAA’s launched a Soundcloud page, with part 1 of Guerra de Titanes discussion and Super Fly talkipong about losing his mask and starting with Lucha Underground. It seems like they’re recording these on a phone, but making it sound much louder than I was managing.

Rob has a clip of Aerostar’s insanity.

Ring of Honor officially announced Alberto el Patron working for them in 2015. He’s announced for 01/013 in Nashville, 01/30 in Dearborn, 01/31 in Dayton and 03/01 in Las Vegas on their next PPV.  (ROH runs Las Vegas?) Best we know, Lucha Underground will only be taping on Saturday and Sundays, so it’s only that 01/31 date which might be a conflict if Alberto is working for both groups. No idea when AAA is taping in January but that’ll have to be worked around both schedules.

Maybe more notable is Lucha Underground has been getting some level of exclusivity in their contracts and it doesn’t look like they’re getting it here, but the deal with Alberto was already going to be different. The bit we don’t know is if AAA will request Alberto not lose elsewhere while AAA heavyweight champion. The championship is mentioned in press release. It seems like Japanese promotions have requested that in past US indy bookings. AAA seems more flexible about that sort of thing (and they’ve been totally okay with Texano losing on their own non-TV shows), but AAA’s heavyweight champion working dates elsewhere is totally uncharted territory.

Huracan Ramirez talks about the team he won a luchador versus boxer match in Colombia. It’s unclear if this article includes an old interview with a Huracan Ramriez (since, if this actually happened, it’d have to be the deceased Daniel Garcia) or if it’s the current Huracan Ramirez pretending to be an 82 year old man.

LuchaWorld has a recap of CMLL Informa. Mistico is now saying he was warned that if surgery didn’t go well, they might have had to amputate his leg, and the whole accident has caused him to be more upbeat and positive.

LuchaWorld, Voices of Wrestling and LV all have recaps of this week’s Lucha Underground

Segunda Caida reviews Atlantis, Mr. Niebla, Último Guerrero vs Blue Panther, Brazo de Plata, Héctor Garza

LV reviews this past week’s CMLL C3 show, which was pretty fun.

Chavo Guerrero talks about his importance in Lucha Underground.

Stigma is surprised and honored to be on the FantasticaMania tour.

8) Violento Jack © vs Cíclope [DTU]
a match with no mat

The big show for the DTU tour is at Arena Lopez Mateos. I actually think Black Fire & Slayer Pack are going to get to the finals, since they actually got a tag team name (4×4) and all. That would slide Crazy Boy into the Consagrado match and Nino Hamburuguesa replacing whoever inevitable no-shows. Violento Jack has been doing matches that have turned into no mat matches every since picking that up in his trip to Japan, so this time this mat just gets removed ahead of time.
