the developments

Big Ryck signed a contract to work full time. He requested to be paid in cash. That always seems like a good idea with a fledling promotion. Later, Cueto was grabbed by Mundo (in the bathroom), who demanded revenge. Cueto didn’t want to offer that, but did offer 100K if Mundo would not kill him. Mundo agreed, but took Cueto’s Key as collateral. Mundo later came to the ring and demanded the money right then and there. Ryck told Mundo to get out of the ring. Mundo dove onto Ryck and took him out. Mundo came to the ring to continue his demands, but was again interrupted – this time by Konnan, who said all friendship/alliances were off after Mundo clocked Puma with a chair last week. Ryck recovered to attack Mundo from behind in the meantime. Puma arrived and fought off Ryck, only to start brawling with Mundo too. Referees and security tried to keep them out, while Ryck and his men watched from the outside. Cueto finally put an end to it by bringing out a briefcase with 100K and declaring it’d be on a line in a ladder match next week, with Puma, Mundo and Ryck.

Super Mundo tope

Son of Havoc, who signed a 7 year contract that prevents him from going to Nashville, complained about facing too many weird people. His open challenge was met by the debuting Pimpinela. Pimpi hurt a shoulder on an accidental fall to the floor; they tried to work it as story, but it was clearly limiting. Mascarita Sagrada ran interference and Pimpi kissed Havoc to set up the pin. (The kiss was shot from as far away as possible and even then seemed edited.)

Mil Muertes won a quick squash.

Drago got a video package (he’s got his nunchucks! a little girl did a dramatic reading!) before his match, but Cuerno beat him to even up their feud. Cuerno told Drago “THE HUNT – HAS JUST – BEGUN”. The mystery woman appeared during the match, looked annoyed, and left.

Pentagon’s motivations remain unclear; announcers emphasized that Pentagon was not necessarily with Chavo. (Pentagon’s win-loss record is very clear.) Sexy Star still wants to face Chavo.

thoughts

get really close to the screen and you can almost see it

Pimpinela’s debut was OK. They did good work to make the shoulder injury the story but it obviously limited the match. The kiss being cut away from is surprsing and weird when I’m used to seeing it twice a week with Maximo (on US TVs.) I wonder if it’ll air the same way on Unimas. It was nothing but awkward here.

Mil Muertes squash was a squash. That and the main event were two segments where it felt like they were running in place, waiting for other things to line up to move on. They got much more of a match of the main event. Chavo slowed it way down early, but it paid off with them speeding up at the end. Pentagon is awesome and it’s fairly obvious.

Drago/Cuerno and the three way stuff inched stuff along with those storylines. The ladder match feels like a big deal and either turning point or the straight ending for a story that’s been going on since episode 1, and it’ll also be a crazy match with 3 (but really 5) people around. Drago & Cuerno were established as long term rivals instead of just guys passing each other by. Cuerno, out of anyone of the show, seems to be trying to re-invent his style. The deliberate attacks of King Cuerno are unlike what I’m used to with Fantasma but it was better this time out than the first.

Next week: matches where I don’t know the results! matches where I don’t know the matches! I’m scared.
