Metatrón, Oro Jr., Stigma vs Artillero, Metálico, Súper Comando: [OK/GOOD] The Oro Jr./Metalico feud is back and it’s probably not going anywhere because neither man is going anywhere. Metatron looked more effective than Oro in this match, that’s where they’re at. Part of it was design, for Metálico to get a lot on Oro to build up sympathy for the third fall win, but it was so one sided and Oro wasn’t really the featured guy at the end – Stigma got the big pin at the end – that it kind of reenforced the idea that Oro just gets lucky at the right time. Match was fine for this level, with Super Comando and Artillero working hard. This match also featured Tigre Hispano counting Artillero down for three when the rest of the building saw it as a two count.
Cachorro, Pegasso, Super Porky vs Ephesto, Hechicero, Vangellys: [OK] This match – the weird fusion of a tercera and a semimain – tried to escape the gravitational pull of Another Super Porky Match to travel somewhere interesting, but kept getting pulled back time after time. There were hints of a good match but this was the usual show with the usual results. We did get Hechicero being unwilling to just pin Porky and needing to pull tricky leg hold just to do it – Hechicero keeping it real, more or less.
Blue Panther, Marco Corleone, Titán vs Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Niebla Roja: [GOOD] If the previous was clearly a Super Porky match, this was clearly a Blue Panther matches, with the usual unexpected shifts and surprise fall ending. Euforia’s big boot on Marco was done well enough to make it feel like a fair stopping point even that it’s never worked before. The second fall on the other hand was so sudden that it bordered on a cheap fall; the crowd definitely wasn’t ready for it. The third fall ending sequence was excellently timed and more than made up for it. The story of this match was definitely that Euforia’s the only guy on his team with any sense, Niebla Rojo and Gran Guerrero are both goofballs (Niebla intentional, Gran unintentional) and Ultimo Guerrero would be in deep trouble if Euforia was lost for any length of time. Mephisto © vs Valiente for the Mexican National Light Heavyweight Championship: [GREAT] definitely better than a usual CMLL title match. First two falls were fun with creative finishes. The second fall really wasn’t all that long but the sequence was good and the mat work in the first fall felt different and like it might actually end some moments (using the mecedora was a nice idea specifically.) Third fall drifted in usual CMLL big match tropes but got better near the end. Valiente actually tried his finish – which doesn’t seem to happen much with the challengers – and Mephisto had to survive it twice to keep his title. Ephesto is a horrible cheater and I don’t like him.
