Kamaitachi hanging backcracker

Cachorro, Fuego, Gallo vs Kamaitachi, Okumura, Puma: [OK/GOOD] a long way to go to end up with that finish; it was a pretty enjoyable match which ended in a not enjoyable way for no real reason – and the wrong two guys, since Gallo & Okumura were the least interesting guys. Puma & Kamaitachi worked together and Cachorro and Fuego fought well against them both. Kamaitachi is going to get the same moment in the spotlight all the NJPW trainees inevitable get, but Puma’s way over due for a singles title chase to see what he can do. He’s got the midcard trios thing down pretty well.

Flashina always worth a gif

La Máscara vs Mephisto: [below average/ok] I would call this inoffensively boring, but I found myself heckling both guys thru the TV set by the end so I may need to say tediously boring. That last fall felt longer than most of the matches on this show. This was a completely generic CMLL singles match. Unlike Sombra, Mascara has made no changes in the way he wrestles now that he’s a pseudo-rudo; it’s all the same spots with bonus stripping and yelling at the ref. Mephisto hasn’t changed, and this match hasn’t changed since 2011 (at least.) There’s a cavernaria. There’s someone reaching down for a hold they never get and getting cradled. There’s a powerbomb with the rudo putting his foot on the ropes. You could super cut together other matches they’ve had and recreate every spot in this match. Mascara kicks out of a Super Devil’s Wings and cradles Mephisto two seconds later off a distraction. Way to make you finisher look stupid! If you haven’t seen this match done before, it’s fine. If you have, you’d rather watch one where people try things and botch then this.

Atlantis old man tope

Atlantis, Rush, Valiente vs Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Último Guerrero: [OK/GOOD] Rated higher because this is a rare match with both a purpose and the willingness to actually execute that purpose. This was heavy Ultimo Guerrero/Atlantis feuding with everyone else rightly pushed to the background. It’s no longer than the previous week’s match but it’s more effective in making them both look good and giving an actual finish. This would’ve actually made me more excited to see this match, had I actually seen it before the match happened. I’m not sure how it’s going to reflect in the recaps, because in end posting things in different orders than I watch it, but this match is in the middle of a long run of bad/boring/useless CMLL matches and sticks out not for being that great of a match but for actually being useful.
