Drago b King Cuervo (4:53, springboard armdrag in Skayde Special cradle)
Johnny Mundo DQ Big Ryck (4:40, interference from Cisco & Castro)
Sexy Star is in one piece and wants revenge on Chavo for Demon and Mascarita.
None of the other Pentagons like Pentagon Jr. :(
Dario Cueto put Drago in a match with the debuting evil hunter King Cuerno to test him. He passed!
Konnan warned Prince Puma not to interfere in Mundo’s fight. To the surprise of anyone who’s watched a TV show, Prince Puma actually listened to him and stayed out of it – only Cisco and Castro just assumed Puma was going to interfere and laid him out before he could. Mundo was put thru a table (which broke remarkably clean) to end the show.
Still a good show, but the weakest of the four so far. There wasn’t a big wow moment as there had been on the other ones. Fenix/Pentagon was pretty good, but not at the level of the standout matches from the other shows and didn’t really have the time to be one. Everything moved along, nothing was bad, they’ve just set a really high mark with the other shows and it’s going to be tough to do that every week. Probably the most wrestling time on the show so far though.
This was the first show where it felt like a Spanish language show first. Sexy Star and Pentagon Jr. both did (subtitled) speeches in Spanish to start their matches. I wonder if that means Ivelisse (who did hers in English) gets subtitled on Saturday or if they found a way to hide that.
Sexy Star did a lot of wrestling in her match with Ivelisse to showcase her as someone tough enough to fight Chavo. That match felt a little long, but it’s also a small roster and they needed to give Ivelisse her moments too.
Fenix and Pentagon was the expected showcase spot fest. It wasn’t as absolutely insane as last week, it’s tougher to keep that pace with just two guys. They still do a bunch of crazy moves and near falls. Pentagon got promo time before the match, probably to balance out him taking the loss again. The announcers very directly built up Fenix as on an equal level to Prince Puma and one of the stars of promotion. There were some lines clearly inserted after the fact to that specific extent.
(I don’t want to do much announcer talk this week, but Vampiro started to grate a bit with mentions of what he would’ve done in matches. I don’t believe he would’ve hooked the leg, no.)
Hijo del Fantasma worked very different as King Cuerno. He was much slower and even more purposefully heelish than he has in AAA. It didn’t quite click for me – and maybe it wasn’t totally supposed to, since Striker made a point of saying Cuerno’s posing had cost him the match. I’d be concerned, but there were plenty of mentions of better matches for him later on, so I’m not really concerned.
Cuerno got a vignette before he debuted to make him feel like a big deal, and Drago had a moment with Cueto (more to show off Drago’s tongue.) Announcers talked about Pentagon & Fenix having history but didn’t explain it. There’s work to be done with those two.
Big Ryck and Johnny Mundo had a match that felt very choreographed in trying to make it work for both guys (and their different styles) and was probably about as good as they’re going to get from that match.
No Chavo on the show. Maybe he took Konnan’s advice. Konnan and Cueto were less of a presence than other shows. No Muertes either. They’ve got a hard job of juggling characters – Puma won’t have a match for two weeks (and was busy elsewhere this weekend in reality) but they managed to give him a story beat on the show to set up something for next week.
Air Date: 01/03 and 01/10? That doesn’t sound right but it’s not clear this point. AAA previously indicated they wanted to sell this thru on iPPV, but there’s been no official talk about that as of yet.
This is about what it looked like AAA had in store after Monday’s show in Leon. The surprise is no more surprises. These usually go to seven or eight matches to get a few more people involved, but that’s not what happened here. AAA does squeeze in Perro Jr., Mesias, Fantasma and Hamburguesa (???) as seconds. La Parka getting involved in the trios title match would make sense with what they’ve done before.
It’s about usual TV taping size, though the matches a lot bigger. The main event should be the coronation of Alberto as the top guy. There’s no point in Alberto messing around with Texano (or anyone else) if he’s really main eventing against Perro at TripleMania. It takes a long time for AAA to get those kind of things set up so they’d need to get it started here if they were serious about it.
Alberto apparently indicated this past weekend that the two US companies he’s signing with are Lucha Underground and TNA. TNA announced their new TV deal today, but their schedule has not been made public and there’s no telling how it would overlap. I would assume AAA has top priority, but we don’t know that until we know it and I’m not sure that’s a big issue even if it’s not. AAA hasn’t been afraid to give titles to guys who are otherwise occupied (Demon!) and aren’t concerned with frequent title defenses, so a TNA deal shouldn’t be an issue – but that’s the only thing I can think of that might be a reason Alberto doesn’t win.
My hunch, based on how they had been used before this feud started, is Aerostar is beating Super Fly. Aerostar made TV and got the new Air Force, Super Fly was off on the island of forgotten luchadors with Uro Rocker. That doesn’t seem a certainty though. (Either way, one of these guys will be on Lucha Underground masked after they lose their mask here. They’re different universes and it goes both ways – no real influence from that show on this one yet.) Not thrilled about Hamburguesa being a second, since that means the match will have to stop for Nino to get in his spots. Overall though, Super Fly and Aerostar got semimain billing on a six match card which should give them plenty of time. This is the night for them their mark.
If we know anything about Psycho Circus feuds, it’s that they go on forever. This will be the fourth time these two teams face off but surely not the last. A title change makes sense if they’re going to keep this going, but there may be other considerations (how many titles do they want to change hands on one show?) at play here.
Three way tag match is going to be the spot fest of the night, even if it’d be a little bit better if Pentagon had been adopted by a more spectacular stable. (Where were you, Anarquia?) The Perros del Mal team appear here to allow the tecnico to tecnico title change without forcing the two teams to battle each other Myzteziz & Fenix have been treated as the new hot idea and figure to win to continue that.
It’ll be a lot easier to have an opinion on the women’s tag match once we finally find out who this new person is. They’re being booked to be a important person right away; Taya vs ??? is surely the next title match if all goes right.
Dinastia gets very rare chance to defend his title in a singles match on a high profile show. Actually, that’s not rare, that’s a first time ever: AAA’s never done a singles title match in the (brief) history of this title on a major show. Mini Charly’s looked like a good opponent for him and this should just be a good exhibition for the champ. There’s no obvious reason to change the title.
There’s no taping announced past this date. AAA wouldn’t need to tape until early January, but that’s when Lucha Underground needs to tape. AAA could tape the weekend prior (01/10) to Lucha Underground’s resumption (01/17) but might choose to get ahead of things by taping late in Decemeber as usual. The Best Ofs all may or may not be happening too. This is fluid.
CMLL has their end of year show on 12/05, AAA has their show on 12/07, and everyone starts to take a bit of a winter’s nap on 12/08.
This is now the second time where Zeuxis and Estrellita started a feud for Estrellita’s title, then the match got canceled before it happened. It’s very strange.

Teases for singles matches in the top three matches, and one actually happens next week.
Tonight’s Lucha Underground show is titled “Thrill of the Hunt.” The TV description is “Sexy Star returns to fight Ivelisse; Cueto confronts Drago; Konnan warns Puma against interfering with Mundo’s fight against Big Ryck; Sexy Star seeks vengeance on Chavo.” That Drago/Cueto confrontation is shown in the weekly El Rey teaser.
There were four matches taped for the show. They’ve only aired three a show previously, which is how they’ve had time to have one really good match a show. Sexy Star/Ivelisse and Ryck/Mundo are listed there in the preview. Drago vs the debuting King Cuerno is at least teased. Pentagon Jr. vs Fenix isn’t mentioned at all. I assume it’s still airing, because it’s good and everyone would want to see them after last week, but if they had to cut one for any reason that’d be the one they could. More likely, the matches are all going to be about the 4-6 minute range and the show might have a little different flow to it.
Last week’s Lucha Underground on El Rey went down. I’m making you click the link to find out because someone should visit the people who actually find the numbers and because the exact numbers are still in the “irrelevant” range. Of much more interest, the Torch also tracked down the Unimas numbers, which are in the 175,000 viewers range. That’s lower than I thought it would be (250K), though it might be on par with what the Galavision TV shows were doing at the end if I remember right. (This is an important reminder about social media too; the El Rey show gets about 50x the Twitter traffic as the Unimas show, but the Unimas show is watched by about 10x as many people.)
CMLL held a press conference today, as Rob correctly predicted last night. The expected 12/05 Infierno en el Ring cage match was announced, with the following field
Half the guys signed the contracts at the press conference the other half will do so Informa. Felino and Rey Bucanero look like the favorites to lse, with Terrible (who loses a lot, might have noted that) and Cavernario (who’s not been grouped in with the guys before) also possible. Volador and Marco seem like favorites to win, though UG and Maximo would also provide some drama.
Shocker claimed Rush was scared and broke his leg to get out of the match. Rush probably should’ve broken it slightly less; he’s going to have surgery on Thursday and his return time is now estimated to be around 3 months. That means he’s spending the winter on crutches and definitely not going to Japan.
Rush’s brother, Mistico, also appeared for a health update of sorts. Mistico broke his leg in May and was originally supposed to be returning around this point. Instead, Mistico gave up his CMLL Welterweight Championship, asking for a title shot on his return. A tournament will be held soon. This news suggests Mistico is not that close to a return.
Cachorro and Black Panther announced they would be changing names. Cachorro will now be known as The Panther and Black Panther will be Blue Panther Jr. Both men showed off new masks. I’m not thrilled with the Cachorro name change. There are at least three other people using Cachorro around Mexico, so maybe one of them was an issue. Still, “the Panther” is only slightly better than “Hijo de Blue Panther.”
Other notes: Arena Coliseo will be closed from 12/14 to 01/11 with all Sunday events taking place in Arena Mexico. The 12/12 show (the week after Infierno en el Ring) will have free admission to all women named Guadalupe. The bodybuilding contest was officially announced for 11/26 (a week from today); there’s no mention of admission for fans and it seems played down compared to previous years. CMLL will send matches to a benefit show for the annual Teleton on 12/06.
Today’s CMLL Informa is scheduled to have Francisco Cruz (to talk about the bodybuilding contest), La Mascara & Sombra (to talk about the future of the Ingobernables with no Rush) and Volador, Barbaro, and Ultimo Guerrero (to talk about Infierno en el Ring.) CMLL’s going about 50/50 on having the guests they list, but I’m sure Ultimo Guerrero will be there. Marco is #1 on this week’s top 10, Esfinge in #10.
AAA teased a Guerra de Titanes match announcement at any minute, but hasn’t said anything and I’d like to be done with this. Let’s say it’s Aerostar vs Super Fly in a mask vs mask match, because that sounds pretty likely, and then make fun of me in the comments when I’m wrong.
CMLL (TUE) 11/25/2014Arena México
1) Metatrón & Robin vs Akuma & Camorra
2) Fantasy, Shockercito, Último Dragoncito vs Demus 3:16, Pequeño Olímpico, Pierrothito
3) Hombre Bala Jr., Pegasso, Súper Halcón Jr. vs Cancerbero, Okumura, Raziel
4) Tritón vs Kamaitachi [lightning]
5) Ángel de Oro, Dragon Lee, Stuka Jr. vs Hombre sin Nombre, Pólvora, Virus
6) Atlantis, Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr. vs Bárbaro Cavernario, Hechicero, Mephisto
Shouldn’t Triton be facing Raizel in the lightning match? Ah, requires paying attention.
A good looking card, with hope for pretty much everything that makes TV and Cavernario & Hechicero both getting main events. Virus and Dragon Lee continue to run into each other in trios, may eventually have that title match.
CMLL (TUE) 11/25/2014Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Sky Kid & Smaker vs Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Lluvia, Marcela, Skadi vs La Comandante, La Seductora, Zeuxis
3) Gallo vs Sagrado
4) Black Panther, Blue Panther, Cachorro vs Misterioso Jr., Puma, Tiger
5) Marco Corleone, Máximo, Valiente vs Felino, Negro Casas, Thunder
Gallo and Sagrado have their match while Thunder/Marco continues in the main event. (No sign of Atlantis/UG, which is OK.) Semimain could be good depending on what Misterioso contributes.
