Rush defeats Niebla, Lucha Underground rating, Rey Jr.

CMLL (MON) 11/03/2014 Arena Puebla [Periodico Enfoque, Periodico Enfoque (fotos)]
1) Arkalis, Black Tiger, Flyer b Akuma, Fuerza Chicana, Policeman
2) Demus 3:16, Pierrothito, Saurón b Asturiano, Stukita, Último Dragoncito
Demus Driver on Asturiano, Asturiano is stretchered out.
3) Black Panther, Blue Panther, Cachorro b Hombre sin Nombre, Tiger, Virus
4) Atlantis, Marco Corleone, Volador Jr. DQ Rey Bucanero, Shocker, Terrible
Shocker pulled Atlantis’ mask for the DQ.
5) Rush b Mr. Niebla
Rush used a Corona box in the brawl. Niebla bled slightly. Rush snuck in a foul for the win. Niebla challenged for a mask vs hair match, but Rush just walked off.

Cavernario is off tonight’s card. Mephisto moves breaks up his natural team to go to the main event while Vangellys gets added to the semimain instead of teaming with his usual partners. Triton vs Raziel is the lightning match and could be a really fun match depending on how much Triton is hurting.

Diamante Azul replaces Valiente on Friday. Dragon Rojo is added to Sunday’s card, bumping Titan down a match and taking Maximo off the show. Polvora is likewise bumped down, replacing Rey Bucanero so Thunder can be in the main event. That’s a pretty iffy main event now: Dragon Rojo teaming with La Mascara & Volador (who will feud) versus Mephisto, Thunder and Gran Guerrero.

PWTorch reported Lucha Underground drew around 8,000 fans 18-49 for it’s debut episode on El Rey. The average was 48.9, which suggests there were a lot of older viewers not included in that number, though it’s not going to be an impressive number however you slice it. It was the second most watched show on the network, to a movie on Tuesday’s night – no one’s watching El Rey and all programs on that network exist as long as the people in charge of El Rey are okay with losing money on them. As mentioned before, Unimas is watched by literally a 100 times more people. That’s the place they have to do well in to succeed. Still, “8,000” is a pretty ugly looking number that they wouldn’t have wanted out if they could have stopped it.

Meanwhile, there’s an AP story about Lucha Underground.

WrestlingInc reported Rey Misterio Jr. was flown to WWE Raw last night to meet Vince McMahon, and Wrestling Observer confirmed it was to talk about Rey’s contract status. WWE writers were said to be coming up with idea for Rey while Rey was said to still want to quit. (On his podcast, Meltzer went as far as saying Rey was called to go on the Mexico tour but declined.)  WWE usually makes big decisions right after serious financial news, so perhaps their recent bad news is pushing them to finally resolve this finally.

Black Terry Jr. has highlights of Pirata Morgan vs Negro Navarro, Yoruba vs Ricky Marvin vs Tornado, the XMW vs IWRG cibernetico, and the tag team four way from that show.

CMLL’s Top 10 this week has Dia de Muertos as #1 and Goya Kong as #10. The week’s clips has highlights of the 10/31 Arena Mexico show, though LA Park isn’t shown.

LuchaWorld has Poster-Mania and the KrisZ’s news update.

The Kriminal Boys were interviewed in Diario Basta.

Psycho Clown said they’ll get their win back from the Hell Brothers.

Fenix talks about teaming with Myzteziz.

A lucha libre bar in Singapore.

There’s a Cobarde exhibit open for a few weeks in Ciudad Jaurez.

Tiger Mask & Fuego face Bushi & Mascara Dorada in the opener of Saturday’s NJPW PPV, so one of the two guys will probably get a win. Those have been very rare on this tour (though part of it’s because they’re not in the title matches and so they’ve been scarified for those who are.)

Lineup

IWRG (WED) 11/05/2014 Arena Naucalpan
1) Black Niko vs Extraño
2) Sky Ángel & Vampiro Metálico II vs Hip Hop Man & Power Bull
3) Alfa, Omega, Saruman vs Anubis Black, Araña de Plata, Atomic Star
4) Avisman, Ciclon Black, Dragón Celestial, Kenshi Kabuki vs Liderk, Rayan, Spartan, Spector
5) Golden Magic, Relámpago, Veneno vs Canis Lupus, El Hijo del Diablo, Eterno

Kenshi was acting heelish when unmsaking so it would make since for him to be on the rudo team but I have no idea what Dragon Celestial is doing there.

CMLL (MON) 11/10/2014 Arena Puebla
1) Bengala & Meyer vs Blue Center & Espiritu Negro
2) Pegasso, Star Jr., Starman vs Fuerza Chicana, King Jaguar, Toro Bill Jr.
3) Dragon Lee, Rey Cometa, Stigma vs Boby Zavala, Kamaitachi, Okumura
4) Diamante Azul, Stuka Jr., Super Porky vs Hechicero, Kráneo, Morphosis
5) Atlantis, Máscara Dorada, Valiente vs Ephesto, Mephisto, Shocker

Mascara Dorada returns (and must have a flight right after the NJPW PPV), though they seem to be setting up an Atlantis/Shocker match. Tercera looks like the best match.

  1. I was thinking Team Lucha for Survivor Series with Rey Jr., Lucha Dragons, and Los Matadores vs. whoever. They’ll probably try to get Rey Jr. to sign a legends contract and work part-time to help get over the next generation high-flyer Latino star, Kalisto or the team Lucha Dragons.

It is funny that WWE flew Rey in just days after LU debuted on El Rey.

  2. Honestly, I think the median age of 48.9 is of greater concern than the total number of viewers.

Without coverage on Dish, which has about 2 million Hispanic HH’s, it hurts the viewership a little bit.

One problem is that the premiere is at 8p, which is 5p in California, so you have to hope the replays do well when it’s prime time on the west coast.

With all the replays times which others may find more convenient, the CUME viewership hopefully will double or triple when all is said and done.

  3. Those numbers also probably don’t take on-demand viewing into account either. I have TWC and do not get El Rey as a channel, but I get El Rey programs on-demand. I watched LU late Sunday night.
