10/07-13 lucha videos

Issues: No new Monterrey still. Hopes crushed. We missed Aerostar/Fantasma, hopefully AAA will have it up in a day or two. LAS is now airing 1.5 IWRG shows a week, but the Ninja Turtles were in the 0.5 not aired. Terra is in Atla because the HD feed was buffering on me. Sound is messed up on the 52MX matches. They’re up on YouTube but not in the playlist. The show reruns on Wednesday and I’ll stick the good version in the playlist when I have them.

EDIT: New links added for 52MX, and WWC links are fixed as of 10/15

Piratas get one over on Hijo de Dos, CMLL English language announcer passes away

IWRG (SUN) 10/12/2014 Arena Naucalpan [The Gladiatores]
1) Septimo Dragon & Sky Ángel b Cirujano Jr. & Hip Hop Man
Guanajuato’s Septimo Dragon and Estado de Mexico made their debut.
2) Diva Salvaje, Estrella Divina, Miss Gaviota b Rayan, Spartan, Violencia Jr.
Estrella’s debut and Violencia’s first match here since March 2013.
3) Leo, Mike, Rafy, Teelo DQ Avisman, El Hijo del Diablo, Oficial 911, Oficial AK47
911 faked a foul to get the second, so Rafy did the same in the third.
4) Canis Lupus, Demon Clown, X-Fly b Dr. Cerebro, Pantera, Veneno
straight falls. Last fall saw Pantera & Cerbero have Lupus & X-Fly in submissions, but the referee rule that capitan Veneno gave up to Demon Clown first.
5) Hijo De Dos Caras, Negro Navarro, Toscano b Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Pirata Morgan, Pirata Morgan Jr.
Negro’s first match here this year. Piratas took 1/3, when Hijo threw a beer in Dos’s face to set up Pirata Sr.’s win.

With Pirata Morgan Jr. involved, IWRG continues to increase the number of (kind of pointless) masks which could fall at Castle of Terror. I could see them stretching out the Demon Clown match until December. Ninja Turtles are here a couple weeks and they’re already doing screwy wins. Just winning is not creative enough.

Stewart Allen, who did English language announcing for CMLL, has passed away. The story goes CMLL sold a run of tapes to a company in France and Stewart and another announcer was brought in to do a new commentary track so it could be sold again elsewhere. (Stewart’s started with as Dave Bradshaw as his partner, then it was changed to Matty Deller later on.) It being CMLL, these tapes were months old, without any context and sometimes vastly out of sequence, so we talked a couples times as Stewart tried to track down airing dates and understand what was happening. He enjoyed calling CMLL and would’ve loved the chance to do it at a bigger level if CMLL had the forethought to run their own current English language broadcast. (He would’ve been great for TripleMania too.) Instead, the tapes eventually changed to an all Minis show, then dried up entirely. The shows still air on the Fight Network in Canada under the Fighting Spirit name (including tonight), but they haven’t had new material in many years. I’d still hear from him when his women’s wrestling podcast had a lucha libre related guest was on, and he did plenty of other types of wrestling. Stewart always struck me as a guy who loved wrestling and was happy to be part of it. He’d be in my neck of the globe when Shimmer would run shows, and I always thought about how I should go over there just to say hi and thanks. I regret that I never did. Stewart will be missed.

Willie Mack was released from NXT. He had just started with NXT. I have no idea how that works that quick, but Mack was a guy AAA and Lucha Underground were clearly interested in prior to him signing with NXT. It seems like 50/50 odds he’ll be picked up by the next batch of Lucha Underground tapings in January, especially if he’s headed back to Los Angeles anyway.

The picture of Mr. Niebla and Rush here is pretty good.

Segunda Caida reviews the first Blue Panther vs El Hijo del Santo from the UK.

Lucha Libre in Japan

10/12 Stardom: Star Fire & Mystique b Miho Wakizawa & Koguma [Goddesses of Stardom] – this is a league tournament, with two blocks of four teams (so three matches each and a final.) Star Fire & Mystique start off 1-0.

10/12 AAA TV Results (San Luis Potosi) – Heroes Inmortales

AAA TV (SUN) 10/12/2014 Domo San Luis, San Luis Potosi, San Luis Potosí
1) Dinastía, Faby Apache, Niño Hamburguesa, Pimpinela Escarlatab Eterno, Mamba, Mini Abismo Negro, Taya Valkyrie
Hamburger splash on Abismo.
2) Hijo del Fantasma © b Angélico, Jack Evans, Joe Lider,Bengala, Aerostar, Súper Fly, Steve Pain [AAA CRUISER]
Aerostar was hurt taking bad fall in the match. Hijo del Fantasma’s second defense
3) Averno, Chessman, Cibernético b Monsther Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown [street fight]
4) Myzteziz b La Parka, Blue Demon Jr., Australian Suicide, Zorro,Pentagón Jr., Fénix, Villano IV [Copa Antonio Pena, lumberjack]
worked as a royal rumble match, with Pentagon and Suicide starting, followed by Fenix, Zorro, Villano IV (replacing Daga), Myzteziz, La Parka, and Demon last. No one went out until every went in. Suicide, Fenix, Parka, Zorro (Parka costing him the match), Villano & Demon draw, and Pentagon fell to a La Mistica.
5) el Hijo del Perro Aguayo & Texano Jr. b El Mesías & El Patrón Alberto
Mesias got Texano in an armbar, Tirantes broke it up, then Tirantes turned the other way as Texano fouled Alberto and beat him in his home town. Albert challenged for a title shot anyway and Texano accepted for Guerra de Titanes.

Air Date: 11/08 and 11/15 (probably a two weeks taping even though only five matches.)

Looked to be a sell out and loud. They gave out Thunderstix to the crowd, and it seems like the crowd might have actually used them. There’s a clip of the crowd chanting for Alberto from early in the main event.

Everything went to form until that main event, where it sure looks like Alberto lost just to surprise people. Even with tonight’s outcome, no one believes Texano is going to (or should) win when he faces Alberto for the title. The way Texano’s been booked for the last 12 months isn’t going to be fixed by one more screwy win. It’s way too late for him and a bucket full of El Hijo del Santo matches prove Mexican fans will pay for obvious outcomes if they care about the protagonist. You just got to keep the protagonist special. Giving Alberto a win in front of a full crowd there to see him in front of a crowd going nuts for him would sure make him look special and footage you could use for every Alberto video package from now until the end of time. Instead, a loss that’ll mean nothing in three months.

Alberto is getting the same shot he would’ve gotten if he had won, so why not just have him win? Or, if you had to have Texano get a win, Mesias is right there. There were alternate options which don’t take the shine off your new top star.

This isn’t going to kill Alberto by any means. It may hurt him only a tiny bit. But why hurt him at all?

The good thing is they did make the Guerra de Titanes main event because look at those airs dates, it’s going to be about Guerra de Titanes time by the time this show airs. They’ve got five weeks of TV in the can, which feels crazy.

Aerostar got back on Twitter after the match and said he was okay. It seemed like they were setting up a Super Fly/Aerostar challenge there, which may have not happened because of the fall (or maybe Super Fly caused the fall.)

Next taping is 11/07 in Tampico. They may just have one more taping after that before Guerra de Titanes.

Astral & Mephisto keep their titles in great matches

CMLL (SUN) 10/12/2014 Arena México
1) Bengala & Star Jr. b Cholo & Inquisidor
Tecnicos took 1/3
2) Amapola, La Seductora, Zeuxis b Estrellita, Princesa Sugehit, Skadi
Rudas took 2/3. Amapola submitted Estrellita for the win.
3) Boby Zavala, Puma, Tiger b Cachorro, Pegasso, Tritón
Rudos took 1/3 in a good match.
4) Astral © b Eléctrico [CMLL MINI]
Electrico grabbed Triton to be his second. Astral had Star Jr. as his second (but he showed up late.) Astral took falls 2/3 to keep the title in a great match, probably the best possible match between the two. Astral’s first defense.
5) Atlantis, Blue Panther, Super Porky b Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Vangellys
Tecnicos took 2/3
6) Diamante Azul, Marco Corleone, Máscara Dorada DQ Felino, Negro Casas, Shocker
Straight falls, Shocker fouling Azul in the second. Azul challenged Shocker to a (non-title) match next week.

Astral versus Electrico is worth going out of your way to see and the tercera was fun too. Women’s match wasn’t bad. Rest of the show was useless.

CMLL (SUN) 10/12/2014 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [@acogdl]
1) Dr. Frezzer b Satara
2) Demonio Rojo & El Yaqui b El Brillante & Virgo
Rudos took 1/3.
3) Magnum b Sky Kid
4) Acertijo, Évola, Jocker b Exterminador, Javier Cruz Jr., Leo
Rudos took 2/3, Acertijo sneaking in a foul on Leo.
5) Dalys & Tiffany b Goya Kong & Marcela
Rudas took 2/3, cheating to win.
6) Mephisto © b Valiente [MEX LH]
Mephisto won in a what was said to be a excellent 30 minute match (though the Twitter timestamps says it was c1oser to 20.) Ninth defense, third straight against Valiente.

Probably the same Mephisto/Valiente match they had in Arena Mexico, though it’s nice to think of them continually getting better at it.

Lucha Underground announced Blue Demon vs Chavo Guerrero Jr., Drago vs King Cuerno in a falls count anywhere match, and a world title match for the double taping on Saturday.

Black Terry Jr. has photos of the monthly show at the Toy Museum. Solar/Negro Navarro was said to be excellent by people who’ve seen a lot of them.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update and the latest LuchaWorld podcast.

This week’s Super Libre had el Faraon as guest.

Segunda Caida reviews this week’s Uprising Lucha Libre show with a good Oliver John vs Blue Demon Jr.

The Planet Lucha has video of the ChilangaMask press conference for their upcoming show in Monterrey in one two three parts. You’re holding the phone the wrong way!

A Halloween Queretaro show includes a main event where a Porro will likely lose his hair and a Black Warrior sighting. Crazy Boy being here reminds me to bring up that Crazy Boy hasn’t been on AAA TV since this spring. With Joe Lider joining the Perros del Mal, the Mexican Powers are basically Nino Hambruguesa and no one else.

The Kriminal Boys are the sixth team added to the Cara Lucha tagteam tournament.

Lucha Libre in Japan

10/12 NOAH: Daisuke Harada (C) b Super Crazy [GHC JR] – 5th defense. Pesadilla’s team won on the undercard. Super Crazy and Pesadilla are still on the upcoming tour, even though it’s a heavyweight tag tournament.

10/12 Wrestle-1/TNA: Andy Wu & El Hijo Del Pantera b Jiro Kuroshio & Yusuke Kodama – this aired on the PPV and should turn in the usual places if you want to check in on Hijo del Pantera.

Lineup

CMLL (SUN) 10/19/2014 Arena Coliseo
1) Bam Bam, Fantasy, Último Dragoncito vs Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Universo 2000
2) Dragon Lee, Mr. Cacao, Tritón vs Misterioso Jr., Sagrado, Skándalo
3) Amapola, Estrellita, Goya Kong, Marcela, Princesa Sugehit vs Dalys, Dark Angel, Makoto, Narumiya, Zeuxis [cibernetico]
Mexico vs the World
4) Atlantis, Máscara Dorada, Super Porky vs Ephesto, Kráneo, Mephisto
5) Diamante Azul vs Shocker

Women’s Mexico vs the World cibernetico is best chance for a good match on this show. I don’t know if that’s a good thing.

Azul vs Shocker is non-title. Eh.

Mr. Cacao exists here only to feud with Arkangel, Arkangel is not in this match – is Arkangel hurt? or just randomness.

CMLL (SUN) 10/19/2014 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Meteoro vs Relampago Azul
2) Índigo vs Furia Nazi
3) Sky Kid & Smaker vs Mr. Trueno & Rey Trueno
4) Goya Kong vs Tiffany
5) Javier Cruz Jr. vs Acertijo [hair]
6) La Sombra & Omar Brunetti vs Mr. Águila & Sádico and Gallo & Titán and Cavernario & Ráfaga

Main event is a DF guy with a local guy tag tournament.

Acertijo and Javier have been facing for three weeks and their feud has only been noticed by the Guadalajara Twitter today, so of course it’s time for the tag match.

Goya probably can’t be in two places at once. Would assume the Guadalajara stuff is planned weeks ahead of time and someone just got the idea for cibernetico in Arena Coliseo. They probably should make the sub there.

XMW (SAT) 11/01/2014 Salón Citlalli, Ecatepec de Morelos, Estado de México
1) Dollar, Flama Negra, Legendario vs Matrix, Medieval, Power
2) Fly Star & Toxin Boy vs Angel Azul & Karateka and Obscuro & Terremoto and Chica Ye-Ye & Demasiado
3) Centvrión, Emperador Azteca, Fulgor, Fulgor II, Metaleon vs Cronos, Fly Metalik, Herodes Jr., Mixus, Mr. Leo
4) Ludark Shaitan vs Felina Metalica [FUSION KAWAI]
5) Yoruba vs Tornado [XMW LH]
6) Belial vs Impulso, Fly Warrior, Arez, Low Rider, Guason [PDM LH]
7) Wotan vs Necro Butcher, Chuy Martinez, Hell Spawn, Core

Should be a crazy show and have so many dives off that ledge (if it’s still there.) Tercera is IWRG vs XMW with guys who are not quite in IWRG any more.

Ingobernables vs CMLL, Alberto el Patron honored in SLP

Copa Jr./photo by Alexis Salazar/CMLL

CMLL (FRI) 10/10/2014 Arena México [CMLL, Univision]
1) Akuma & Disturbio b Robin & Soberano Jr.
2) Misterioso Jr., Skándalo, Virus b Black Panther, Pegasso, Tritón
3) Ángel de Oro, Delta, Rey Cometa b Ephesto, Felino, Hechicero
Delta replaced Titan. Hechicero has a new mask (and wore his Poder Y Honor championship to the ring.) Tecnicos took 2/3.
4) Diamante Azul, Marco Corleone, Valiente b Kráneo, Mr. Niebla, Shocker
Shocker and Azul are still feuding.
5) Máximo b Mephisto [Copa Jr. VIP, Copa Jr., final]
Maximo took 2/3 to win the tournament. Money was thrown in. Brazo de Oro and Kahoz were the seconds. Maximo dedicated the win to his mother.
6) La Máscara, La Sombra, Rush b Euforia, Thunder, Último Guerrero
Ingobernables won in straight falls. Clean fall in the first, Rush sneaking in a foul on UG in the second.

Nice upset win for Maximo. This tournament still feels like something put on just to fill a few weeks of shows, but at least maybe they can get something out of down the road.

new Hechicero/CMLL/Alexis Salazar

Main event looks like they’ve moved on to the Ingobernables against the Guerreros. They haven’t moved on from Shocker & Diamante Azul, despite all reason and logic.

Alberto el Patron was honored by the city of San Luis Potosi yesterday. The mayor talked about Alberto’s achievements in sports and being a role model for young people, Alberto noted it was his first visit back in 9 years and gave the mayor credit for making many positive changes. That sort of thing, and the best sort of local promotion for Sunday’s show. In a Q&A, Alberto said he plans on wrestling for “only three or four more years” so he can eventually spend more time with his family. It’s very rare a wrestler says something like that and sticks to it. Alberto might more set on that then most, but it’s something AAA has to find out for sure before they decide on how they’re booking the Perro/Alberto feud. Alberto was mobbed by fans coming/leaving the ceremony.

Rob has highlights from the 06/27/14 CMLL show, including the En Busca de un Idolo cibernetico.

CMLL’s text/video preview for the Dia Los Muertos suggest the shows will not be CMLL vs CMLL, but CMLL vs the Undead. That would be a different booking direction, so that doesn’t seem likely at all.

Ingobernables/CMLL/Alexis Salazar

Impulso and Belial have been added to the CaraLucha tag team tournament. Three to go. Kriminal Boys are surely one.

SuperLuchas looks back at Dr. X on the third anniversary of his death, and Kcidis has a Dr. X drawing.

El Pancracio has a photo and a note from Cuchillo’s funeral: the body was cremated.

SuperLuchas also writes about a Hombre Bala benefit show coming up next month.

Porra Fresa returns with a preview of Monday’s card.

DJ Spectro reports a magazine interview with (a previous) Paranoico.

Lineups

CMLL (FRI) 10/17/2014 Arena México

2) Dark Angel, Lluvia, Marcela vs Makoto, Narumiya, Zeuxis
3) Dragon Lee vs Kamaitachi [lightning]
4) Blue Panther, Fuego, Titán vs Mr. Niebla, Terrible, Vangellys
5) Diamante Azul, Máscara Dorada, Máximo vs Euforia, Shocker, Thunder
6) La Máscara, La Sombra, Rush vs Gran Guerrero, Niebla Roja, Último Guerrero

Yep, trios title match coming up.

Why does Mascara Dorada have to be in such trying matches? Hoping Dragon Lee & Kamaitachi makes Fox Sports somehow.

indy (SUN) 10/26/2014 Complejo Deportivo de La Inalámbrica, Merida, Yucatán
1) Acuaboy & Mr. Voltio vs Mensajero Del Diablo & Rebelde Punk
2) El Alebrije & Toriñito vs Halcón Rojo Jr. & Monsther
3) La Sádica © vs Stephanie Vaquer [LLF Juvenil]
4) Máximo & Rayo de Jalisco Jr. vs Cien Caras Jr. & Zumbi
5) Dr. Wagner Jr. © vs Último Guerrero [IWL HEAVY]

Lineup is here. If the main event happens as scheduled, it’s the first singles match between Wagner & Guerrero in six and a half years. My records have Dr. Wagner Jr. and Ultimo Guerrero meeting 10 times. I don’t have a result for one match in Guadalajara. Wagner has won nine times. Ultimo Guerrero has won none times.

10/10 AAA TV Results (Tlahuelilpan)

AAA TV (FRI) 10/10/2014 Plaza de Toros, Tlahuelilpan, Hidalgo [AAA]
1) Dinastía & Mascarita Sagrada b Mini Abismo Negro & Mini Histeria
2) Eterno & Taya Valkyrie b Jennifer Blake & Niño Hamburguesa
Taya beat Jennifer.
3) Australian Suicide & Jack Evans b El Apache & Joe Lider
Apache replaced Pentagon and took the loss to Suicide’s shooting star tornillo. Lider lost in his return to the rudo side. Pentagon and Fantasma attacked the tecnicos after the match.
4) Chessman b Monsther Clown
4) Monsther Clown b Chessman
Monster Clown submitted Chessman.Hell Brothers attacked Monsther Clown after the win and warned more would be coming in a couple days. He also taunted Myzteziz and others to try and stop him.
5) Averno & Hijo del Fantasma b El Mesías & Myzteziz
5) El Mesías & Myzteziz b Averno & Hijo del Fantasma
La Mistica and spear for the win. Hell Brothers tried to get involved, but La Parka ran them off. It rained badly during this match.
6) Blue Demon Jr. & Fénix b el Hijo del Perro Aguayo & Pentagón Jr.
Pentagon replaced Daga. Demon submitted Perro.

Air Date: 10/25 and 11/02

Really surprising Perro would be the one taking the loss in the main event with Pentagon right there. Not a surprise Demon won. Daga, still presumably battling a knee injury, could’ve been held off this show to give him a better chance at working Sunday but I’d guess he misses both.

There is a change in philosophy about who gets brought to TV tapings. They used to only have people show up who had a match, but Cibernetico’s been on every single taping since TripleMania and hasn’t wrestled once. Parka appeared here as a surprise, and maybe to set up a direction for the Hell Brothers which doesn’t necessarily include challenging for the trios titles. Demon/Parka/Myzteziz versus the Hell Brothers would work.

(No idea what become of Ludxor.)

I wouldn’t expect a lot out of the fifth match because of that rain, and it may have messed with the other matches as well.

They’re back taping in two days in San Luis Potosi for Heroes Inmortales.
